Review: The Devil Wears Prada 2

Official synopsis: Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) reunites with Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) as they navigate their careers amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing.

When this was initially announced as a sequel, I had zero interest in seeing it. With so many legacy TV shows and movies doing reboots lately, it's just not something I'm ever moved to see, no matter how much I loved the original product. But, like I'm sure the studio would have it, the marketing began to sway me, and suddenly I was accepting of a sequel to a film so iconic.

Get my clown make up ready, because I loved this. I went into it with expectations on the lower side and I came out enjoying it almost as much as I did the original. (No Adrien Grener really helps) The fan service to the original was integrated well and kept brief. The story ended up being a lot more intriguing than I gave it credit for. Choosing to focus on the decline of journalism in print was a good choice. I think there's a lot of ways this could've gone, and I'm glad this is the one they chose.

I also thought where each character was 20 years later was believable. It's no surprise Andy and Emily both soared in their careers. It's no surprise Nigel is still at Miranda's side. Lily (Tracie Thomas) is still Andy's friend and the new assistants played by Simone Ashley and and Caleb Hearon were very funny. Justin Theorux also has a hilarious turn as a dumb billionaire. 

The actors all remain top notch. Hathaway has only gotten better with years and she carries Andy with a great maturity, but there's still specks of the awkward girl we loved all those years ago. Meryl Streep doesn't get to dig into Miranda as much as she did in the previous film, but she has a great scene of physical comedy that involves a coat that I loved. 

I do wish the film had gone into a bit more of what happened between Emily and Miranda. I think a bit more backstory would've helped. 

Needless to say, I'm more than pleasantly surprised with this sequel. Definitely worth a theater watch.

    I will see this when it arrives on streaming though I am disappointed that my Queen as well as Emily Blunt, her sister, and Stanley Tucci went to the Met Gala hosted by Jeff Bezos (ugh...). Should I cancel my Amazon Prime account? I'm seriously considering it.

    Honestly, I still have zero interest in seeing this, although I probably will at some point.

    I agree on Prime. Admittedly, I use my wife's account, but still...

Recently, I was talking to someone about who I thought were the best child actors when I was also a child.  Two that really stood out to me were Elijah Wood and Joseph Mazello, and one film those two were in together was called Radio Flyer.  Then I was reminded about the uniqueness of this film. Instead of reviewing the film, I wanted to have an open discussion about the ending. It deals with a tough issue; child abuse. What I’ve noticed is the way that the film ends is interpreted many different ways, and the filmmakers never came forward to say what was right and wrong. Earlier this week I made a post where I ran through the letters of the alphabet with my favorite movie titles. There were a few people that suggested I turn it into a blogathon, and I've never done that before. So here goes nothing! Review: Lilies Not For Me

Official synopsis:  A gay novelist, Owen (Fionn O'Shea) and his psychiatric nurse (Erin Kellyman) bond over a series of "dates" prescribed to "cure" his homosexuality. He tells her how his previous relationship degenerated when his partner, Philip (Robert Aramayo) tried a risky procedure to become heterosexual. Robert Aramayo has been absolutely killing it on Amazon's The Rings of Power , a show that apparently only myself and my husband watch. Through him, this little film came on my radar as it slowly made its way around the festival circuit.  Lilies Not For Me is not a light viewing, and I didn't expect it to be. Any film about gay folks in the 1920's can't possibly be without pain. Though this did take it a few steps further than I expected. While not overly graphic, the things that happen are horrible and it makes you just want to wrap the men in this story in a warm blanket and tell them everything is going to be okay.
