Guy Pearce is a good Warhol but David Bowie is the definitive Warhol in Basquiat. My issues about that film was more with some of the dramatic liberties made about Sedgwick and Warhol which were exaggerated. Plus, I really didn't like seeing Hayden Christensen as Bob Dylan. thevoid99https://www.blogger.com/profile/03055459287396592446noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3990332416861666709.post-20894307644054267522017-02-02T19:12:04.026-06:002017-02-02T19:12:04.026-06:00I've only seen Girl with the Pearl Earring whi...I've only seen Girl with the Pearl Earring which was quite wonderful, don't know why it didn't occur to me! I don't remember Cillian's wig but thought Firth, Johannson and Judy Parfitt were all wonderful.

I've meant to see both of your others. I've read the George Plimpton bio of Edie Sedgwick, a deeply troubled girl from a family that could be a poster ad for dysfunction.

I discovered when I was pulling titles that I don't have any films about painters that I love passionately but these three are ones I liked.

The Naked Maja (1958)-Tale of the renowned painter Francisco Goya (Anthony Franciosa) and his passionate affair with the Duchess of Alba (Ava Gardner) , purportedly the model for the title painting. Set against Spain’s war with France and the Inquisition, though shot in Italy, the film is a visual treat with a good performance by Gardner but missing a certain spark, perhaps due to the fact that the stars detested each other behind the scenes.

Lust for Life (1956)-Biography of Vincent Van Gogh with an intense, driven performance by near lookalike Kirk Douglas as the tortured artist. Since he wasn’t acknowledged until after his death the film is a relentlessly grim look at the cost and weight of unrecognized genius. Overlong but loaded with works by the master.

The Moon and Sixpence (1942)-Inspired by the life of Paul Gauguin and based on the Somerset Maugham novel, the film tells the story of Charles Strickland (George Sanders) who throws his staid life as a married stockbroker away to run away to the South Seas to paint with nary a thought to the consequences. Well-acted with a superior cast but the lead character is an almost completely despicable person so it’s difficult to care too much for his story or fate. joel65913https://www.blogger.com/profile/14526657073681774683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3990332416861666709.post-32657831189736660062017-02-02T18:33:28.328-06:002017-02-02T18:33:28.328-06:00We have a match with Exit.
