DVD Review: The Came Together

This is what happened when a parody fails

Romantic comedies suck, so when I heard Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd were starring in a film that spoofs them, I was all over it. Though I should've known better since this film seemed to come out of nowhere.

Molly (Poehler) is a naive women running a cute candy shop in New York City and Joel is a jerk who works for a gigantic candy company that's going to shut her store down. They meet, they hate each other, then they fall in love. They're relaying this story to two of their friends over dinner (Played by Bill Hader and Ellie Kemper)

God, this movie wasn't even funny. Sure everything they said about romantic comedies was true, and there were a lot of talented people here, but it just fucking sucked. There's no less harsh way of saying it. The biggest miracle was that I actually sat through the whole thing.

Memorable Quote: "So I met this guy, he went down on me and I came in like a minute...oh, got to go, bye dad!" - Melanie (Noureen DeWulf)

  1. Love your review! I do recall the name of the film but that's about it. The last Paul Rudd film I saw was Admission which was so bad it may have put me off him for a while!

    1. Thanks. lol, that's a shame because Rudd is so good, but I think Perks of Being a Wallflower was the last thing I liked him in.

  2. Christopher Meloni shitting in his costume was the only thing that worked for me in this movie. I thought that bit was hilarious. Everything else... yeah, so bad.

    1. Poor Meloni. He deserves better. All the actors in this do.

  5. Haha... Loved the review. Thanks, I would have wasted money on this because Rudd usually does good comedy but most spoofs suck big time and your review just reinforces that.

    1. Most spoofs do suck. I think there's only three that I like. I was hoping to add this to the list.

  7. I guess I'm gonna skip that then, shame Rudd is always so charming

  8. I saw the trailer earlier this year. It was enough to make me chuckle at parts but also think that if I watched the trailer for two hours I'd get the gist of the movie. That's a shame that movie was so terrible because a romantic parody with Rudd and Poehler could've been really funny.

  9. Omg the title. I can't believe it was so bad, how did they manage that? So sad! Kudos to you for finishing it!
