2016 Emmy Nominations: Who will win, who should win.

The 2016 Emmy Awards are next week. I'll be rooting hard for Game of Thrones considering their late premiere date next season will make them ineligible. Here's my predictions for who will win, and in some cases who should win.

Outstanding Drama Series
The Americans
Better Call Saul
Downton Abbey
Game Of Thrones
Homeland
House Of Cards
Mr. Robot
Who will and should win: Game of Thrones. If they can win for their shitty season 5, they deserve it more for their outstanding season 6.

Oustanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Kyle Chandler - Bloodline
Rami Malek - Mr. Robot
Bob Odenkirk - Better Call Saul
Matthew Rhys - The Americans
Liev Schreiber - Ray Donovan
Kevin Spacey - House Of Cards
Who will win: Kevin Spacey
Who should win: Rami Malek.
Rami is amazing on Mr. Robot, but the Emmys love Spacey. They might not stray, even though they should.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Claire Danes - Homeland
Viola Davis - How To Get Away With Murder
Taraji P. Henson - Empire
Tatiana Maslany - Orphan Black
Keri Russell - The Americans
Robin Wright - House Of Cards
Who will win: Viloa Davis
Who should win: ?
I don't watch any of these shows, but from the clips I've seen either Viola and Tatiana should take it.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Jonathan Banks - Better Call Saul
Peter Dinklage - Game Of Thrones
Kit Harington - Game Of Thrones
Michael Kelly - House Of Cards
Ben Mendelsohn - Bloodline
Jon Voight - Ray Donovan
Who will win: Peter Dinklage
Who should win: Jonathan Banks
The Emmys also love Peter, as do I, even though I think his nomination this year is a joke. He got to two one meaty thing. Personally, I'd give it to Banks, but I think the Emmys might surprise us in this category. I don't know who will get it.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Emilia Clarke - Game Of Thrones
Lena Headey - Game Of Thrones
Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey
Maura Tierney - The Affair
Maisie Williams - Game Of Thrones
Constance Zimmer - UnREAL
Who will and should win: Lena Headey.
For the love of God give her this Emmy! She's so overdue.

Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series
The Americans ("Persona Non Grata")
Downton Abbey ("Episode 8")
Game Of Thrones ("Battle Of The Bastards")
The Good Wife ("End")
Mr. Robot ("eps1.0_hellofriend.mov")
UnREAL ("Return")
Who will win: Game of Thrones or Mr. Robot
Who should win: Mr. Robot
I think it could go to either, Mr. Robot deserves it a bit more for originality, even though Battle of the Basterds was a beautiful episode.

Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series
Downton Abbey ("Episode 9")
Game Of Thrones ("Battle Of The Bastards")
Game Of Thrones ("The Door")
Homeland ("The Tradition Of Hospitality")
The Knick ("This Is All We Are")
Ray Donovan ("Exsuscito")
Who will and should win: Game of Thrones for Battle of the Bastards. That hour of TV looked like it should've been on the big screen. It was amazing. The Door is a great episode too, but directing wise, Battle is a bit better.

Outstanding Comedy Series
black-ish
Master Of None
Modern Family
Silicon Valley
Transparent
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Veep
Who will win: Transparent
Who should win: Veep
There's a lot of good shows here, I can see them going with Transparent again, but Veep is still the funniest show around in my opinion.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Anthony Anderson - black-ish
Aziz Ansari - Master Of None
Will Forte - The Last Man On Earth
William H. Macy - Shameless
Thomas Middleditch - Silicon Valley
Jeffrey Tambor - Transparent
Who will win: Jeffrey Tambor
Who should win: I'd be happy with Forte or Middleditch.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
Ellie Kemper - Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Julia Louis-Dreyfus - Veep
Laurie Metcalf - Getting On
Tracee Ellis Ross - black-ish
Amy Schumer - Inside Amy Schumer
Lily Tomlin - Grace And Frankie
Who will win: ?
Who should win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus
I have no idea who's going to take this, but I'm always behind JLD.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Louie Anderson - Baskets
Andre Braugher - Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Tituss Burgess - Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Ty Burrell - Modern Family
Tony Hale - Veep
Keegan-Michael Key - Key & Peele
Matt Walsh - Veep
Who will win: Tituss Burgess
Who should win: I'd love Hale, Walsh or Key.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Anna Chlumsky - Veep
Gaby Hoffmann - Transparent
Allison Janney - Mom
Judith Light - Transparent
Kate McKinnon - Saturday Night Live
Niecy Nash - Getting On
Who will win and should win: Allison Janney
I'd be psyched if Anna Chlumsky won, but even though I'm not a fan of Mom, Allison Janney is awesome in it.

Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series
Catastrophe ("Episode 1")
Master Of None ("Parents")
Silicon Valley ("Founder Friendly")
Silicon Valley ("The Uptick")
Veep ("Morning After")
Veep ("Mother")
Who will win: Veep "Mother"
Who should win: Silicon Valley "The Uptick"
Those Silicon Valley episodes they chose were hilarious, but for some reason people really liked "Mother" from Veep, even though I thought it was the least funny episode they've ever done.

Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series
Master Of None ("Parents")
Silicon Valley ("Daily Active Users")
Silicon Valley ("Founder Friendly")
Transparent ("Man On The Land")
Veep ("Kissing Your Sister")
Veep ("Morning After")
Veep ("Mother")
Who will and should win: Veep "Kissing Your Sister"
They went documentary style for that episode, since it's different, I think they'll get it.

Outstanding Limited Series
American Crime
Fargo
The Night Manager
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
Roots
Who will win; The People v O.J Simpson
Who should win: Fargo
Fargo is amazing, American Crime was amazing until their shit finale, but OJ got a lot of buzz this year. I think that's where they'll go.

Outstanding Television Movie
All The Way
Confirmation
Luther
Sherlock: The Abominable Bride
A Very Murray Christmas
Who will win: Confirmation
Who should win: Sherlock
I've only seen Confirmation and Sherlock, I enjoyed both, but liked Sherlock slightly better. Confirmation is an important story though, so I see it winning.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie
Bryan Cranston - All The Way
Benedict Cumberbatch - Sherlock: The Abominable Bride
Idris Elba - Luther
Cuba Gooding, Jr. - The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
Tom Hiddleston - The Night Manager
Courtney B. Vance - The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
Who will win: Bryan Cranston
Who should win: ?
You know the Emmys missing giving them to Cranston.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie
Kirsten Dunst - Fargo
Felicity Huffman - American Crime
Audra McDonald - Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grille
Sarah Paulson - The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
Lili Taylor - American Crime
Kerry Washington - Confirmation
Who will win: Either Washington or Paulson
Who should win: Taylor, Dunst, or Huffman
This category is hard, there's so many great performances here. I can't pick, maybe they all deserve it.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie
Sterling K. Brown - The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
Hugh Laurie - The Night Manager
Jesse Plemons - Fargo
David Schwimmer - The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
John Travolta - The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
Bokeem Woodbine - Fargo
Who will win: Sterling K Brown
Who should win: Either Fargo actor.
I'm bias for Fargo, okay?

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie
Kathy Bates - American Horror Story: Hotel
Olivia Colman - The Night Manager
Regina King - American Crime
Melissa Leo - All The Way
Sarah Paulson - American Horror Story: Hotel
Jean Smart - Fargo
Who will win and should win: Regina King
Despite American Crime completely throwing everything out the window in their finale, King was excellent throughout.

Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special
Fargo ("Loplop")
Fargo ("Palindrome")
The Night Manager
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story ("From The Ashes Of Tragedy")
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story ("Marcia, Marcia, Marcia")
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story ("The Race Card")
Who will win: One of the OJs
Who should win: Fargo for Palindrome

Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special
All The Way
Fargo ("Before The Law")
The Night Manager
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story ("From The Ashes Of Tragedy")
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story ("Manna From Heaven")
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story ("The Race Card")
Who will win: One of the OJ's again
Who should win: Fargo, again. Maybe OJ deserves to win though, I'm still annoyed this show isn't on On Demand so I can actually watch it.

Outstanding Reality-Competition Program
The Amazing Race
American Ninja Warrior
Dancing With The Stars
Project Runway
Top Chef
The Voice
Who will win: The Voice
Who should win: American Ninja Warrior
I love watching Ninja Warrior, I miss the Japanese version dearly, but this has become a show my whole family watches together.

Outstanding Variety Sketch Series
Documentary Now!
Drunk History
Inside Amy Schumer
Key & Peele
Portlandia
Saturday Night Live
Who will win and should win: Key & Peele
They've been strong lately. But all of these shows have been great this season, even Amy Schumer, who I'm getting a bit sick of.

Outstanding Variety Talk Series
Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee
Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver
The Late Late Show With James Corden
Real Time With Bill Maher
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Who will and should win: John Oliver
Oliver deserves an Emmy. His show is hilarious, he deserves this just for his Trump coverage alone. And that song he wrote about Brexit.

Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series
Full Frontal With Samantha Bee
Inside Amy Schumer
Key & Peele
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver
Portlandia
Saturday Night Live
Who will win and should win: John Oliver.
I'd be happy for Samantha Bee winning too. I haven't seen her show, but I loved her on the Daily Show.

Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series
Inside Amy Schumer
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver
The Late Late Show With James Corden
Saturday Night Live
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Who will win: Jimmy Fallon
Who should win: ?
Directing wise, Jimmy's show is a bit more lively so I can see it winning.

  1. I have my fears that Maggie Smith will upset Headey. Mainly because Downtown Abbey is on its final season and they may feel sentimental.

    1. I have that fear too because the Emmys LOVE her. But Lena should've won last year, I hope they reward her this time.

  2. Tatiana is the best actress working today. It'd be criminal if she didn't win.

    1. From what I've seen of her show (which isn't much) it looks like she brings it.

    1. Same here. He should be punished for his time with with Succubus.

    2. Me too. I'm so petty, I never realized a fake tomance could turn me against a person so much.

  4. I don't think Confirmation will win, simply it's not very good. Also, you're going hard for Game of Thrones! Haven't seen the show, but I am team Mr. Robot and Veep.

And I think People vs. OJ was amazing, and Fargo was also amazing (but People vs OJ was just amazing-er LOL). Paulson should win, hands down (tho Dunst is cool too). And all the other actors in People vs OJ too.

    1. I really want to watch OJ after all that buzz, but it's not on demand. I wouldn't be upset at all if Mr. Robot won. Amazing show.

  5. If it were up to me, The Americans would sweep the top Drama categories. The show, Matthew and Keri have all deserved to be nominated (if not win) every year it's been on, and now that it's here? And for its best season yet?!? WINNER. Supporting trophies should go to Banks (I can't believe he hasn't won yet) and Zimmer (who is FIRE on Unreal). I think Lena is giving the performance of her life on GoT, and she should have won for any of her previous seasons, but not this one. Aside from the last episode, she didn't really impress me much.

On the Comedy side, I would be happy with a Veep win for Series, and wouldn't be mad if it took all the acting wins it's up for, too, BUT in the interest of spreading the wealth I would be tickled pink if Ellie Kemper and ESPECIALLY Tituss Burgess won. Allison Janney really is incredibly on Mom, though, isn't she? How is she so damn GOOD, ALL THE TIME?!?

OH, and I'm also pissed that OJ is only available to buy for streaming. SUCH bull. That said, though, if Sarah Paulson doesn't win this year, I'm going to throw things at my TV.

    1. Cersei's story was a bit of a letdown until the last few episodes, but Lena is over due.

I'm glad the Americans is finally getting some love. I've never watched the show, but I always thought it looked interesting enough and I know it has a dedicated fan base. It makes me happy when a show and fans get rewarded like that.

  6. This is kinda useful because it introduces me to all the great TV I haven't seen. I do want to see Mr Robot because the main character as the same name as me.

    1. It's on Netflix so I'll check it soon!

      Followed you on twitter btw.

  7. I kinda gave up on the Emmys this year after they completely snubbed The Leftovers, which really infuriated me, since there's simply nothing that good on TV right now.

If The Leftovers didn't exist, I'd be gunning for; House of Cards, Silicon Valley, Kevin Spacey and Aziz Ansari.

Still a little surprised how Cuba Gooding Jr. got nominated. Neither was he lead, nor was his O.J that well-fleshed out. Which is not to say Cuba wasn't good in that role. And limiting what O.J thought was kinda integral to the whole plot. I just think it wasn't an awards worthy performance.

    1. I've never been impressed with Gooding so I'd probably agree had I seen OJ. I'm hoping to watch it eventually.

  8. I am so lost now since most of these shows I don't watch at all. They are either on netflix or the Internet. There are some I could have watched but I just am sick and tired of nasty, mean psychopaths. I would like Downton Abbey to win best drama but I know they won't. Love Cumberbatch as Sherlock and I admit I watch and love Dancing With The Stars and hope they win but know they won't

    1. I used to be into Dancing With the Stars, but after the season where Nicole Sherzinger was on, I stopped watching. That was unfair.

  9. I enjoyed Mr Robot and I like Rami Malek, though not having seen him in anything else, I'm still not sure about his acting skills yet. Sounds like as long as Game Of Thrones still in existence, that is going to be the one show to beat.

    1. Rami had a small part in The Master and was on this show called The War At Home, that's where I recognized him from.
