2025 Golden Globe Nominations

I am so out of the loop that I didn't even realize the Globe nominations were yesterday! At least I know I BAFTA, SAG and Oscars are all announced in January. I have a lot to say about the nominations since I missed tweeting about them on Bluesky (Yes, I made the jump from the artist formerly known as Twitter to Blue Sky Same handle. Come find me!)

BEST MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
The Brutalist
A Complete Unknown
Conclave
Dune: Part Two
Nickel Boys
September 5
I've only seen Dune and Nickel Boys from these nominations, but I want to see them all. Hopefully I can before the awards ceremony.

BEST MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Anora
Challengers
Emilia PĂ©rez
A Real Pain
The Substance
Wicked
I guess this is Musical, Comedy, and Horror now? I love the Substance so I'm fine with it being here because I legit did get a few laughs from it, but come on now.

BEST DIRECTOR, MOTION PICTURE
Jacques Audiard – Emilia PĂ©rez
Sean Baker – Anora
Edward Berger – Conclave
Brady Corbet – The Brutalist
Coralie Fargeat – The Substance
Payal Kapadia – All We Imagine As Light
TWO women!! I love that I already mentioned my soft spot for Corbet in my Spirit Nominations post, but I weep for no Denis Villenueve for Dune Part II.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Pamela Anderson – The Last Showgirl
Angelina Jolie – Maria
Nicole Kidman – Babygirl
Tilda Swinton – The Room Next Door
Fernanda Torres – I’m Still Here
Kate Winslet – Lee
I have not seen any of these, but they're all on my watch list. Bummed that Saoirse Ronan couldn't get in for The Outrun or Blitz. She's probably splitting votes.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Amy Adams – Nightbitch
Cynthia Erivo – Wicked
Karla SofĂa GascĂłn – Emilia PĂ©rez
Mikey Madison – Anora
Demi Moore – The Substance
Zendaya – Challengers
Absolutely LOVE these nominees. I haven't seen Nightbitch but I'll never complain about Amy Adams getting nominated for things.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN ANY MOTION PICTURE
Selena Gomez – Emilia PĂ©rez
Ariana Grande – Wicked
Felicity Jones – The Brutalist
Margaret Qualley – The Substance
Isabella Rossellini – Conclave
Zoe Saldaña – Emilia PĂ©rez
Margaret Qualley! She was one I was not confident about getting in, so I'm so happy to see her here, but three of these nominations are a disaster. Saldaña and Grande are absolutely NOT supporting characters in their movies. They are co-leads, and Gomez gave nowhere near an awards worthy performance. Her over Danielle Deadwyler in The Piano Lesson? Honestly...

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Adrien Brody – The Brutalist
TimothĂ©e Chalamet – A Complete Unknown
Daniel Craig – Queer
Colman Domingo – Sing Sing
Ralph Fiennes – Conclave
Sebastian Stan – The Apprentice
I am flopping in the Drama category this year. Another full list of noms I haven't seen.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Jesse Eisenberg – A Real Pain
Hugh Grant – Heretic
Gabriel LaBelle – Saturday Night
Jesse Plemons – Kinds of Kindness
Glen Powell – Hit Man
Sebastian Stan – A Different Man
Musical, Comedy, and Horror strikes again with Heretic? Maybe it's funny? I haven't gotten to see it. Eisenberg and Plemons are excellent in those films. Stan scoring a double nom is very impressive. I didn't care for Powell or LaBelle in these roles. Especially when the Challenger guys were right there.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN ANY MOTION PICTURE
Yura Borisov – Anora
Kieran Culkin – A Real Pain
Edward Norton – A Complete Unknown
Guy Pearce – The Brutalist
Jeremy Strong – The Apprentice
Denzel Washington – Gladiator II
Like with the Supporting Actresses, Culkin is a co-lead. I love him, but it's true. Though it is nice to see the Roy boys in this category together again. They can't escape each other.

BEST SCREENPLAY, MOTION PICTURE
Anora
The Brutalist
Conclave
A Real Pain
Emilia PĂ©rez
The Substance
The Substance! Anora! A Real Pin!

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE, MOTION PICTURE

“Mi Camino” – Emilia PĂ©rez

BEST MOTION PICTURE, ANIMATED
Flow
Inside Out 2
Memoir of a Snail
Moana 2
Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl
The Wild Robot
I plan on watching Memoir of a Snail this week. I tried to get my kid to go with me to The Wild Robot several times in theaters but he wouldn't because "the book was meh"

BEST MOTION PICTURE, FOREIGN LANGUAGE
All We Imagine As Light
Emilia PĂ©rez
The Girl With the Needle
I’m Still Here
The Seed of the Sacred Fig
Vermiglio
I have a few of these as screeners that have been on my watch list.

GOLDEN GLOBE FOR CINEMATIC & BOX OFFICE ACHIEVEMENT
Alien: Romulus
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Deadpool & Wolverine

Inside Out 2
Twisters
Wicked
The Wild Robot
Fucking dumb.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
The Day Of The Jackal
The Diplomat
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
ShĹŤgun
Slow Horses
Squid Game
I love this for ShĹŤgun, but no House of the Dragan or Rings of Power makes me sad.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Abbott Elementary
The Bear
The Gentlemen
Hacks
Nobody Wants This
Only Murders in the Building

BEST LIMITED SERIES, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
Baby Reindeer
Disclaimer
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story
The Penguin
Ripley
True Detective: Night Country
The Penguin! The addition of them against the heavyweight that has been Baby Reindeer all season is interesting. Penguin is my clear favorite.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
Kathy Bates – Matlock
Emma D’Arcy – House of the Dragon
Maya Erskine – Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Keira Knightley – Black Doves
Kerri Russell – The Diplomat
Anna Sawai – ShĹŤgun
I'm glad Emma D'Arcy got some love for HOTD, Morfydd Clark deserves to be here for Rings of Power too, but I digress. This is Anna Sawai's year anyways.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Kristen Bell – Nobody Wants This
Quinta Brunson – Abbott Elementary
Ayo Edebiri – The Bear
Selena Gomez – Only Murders in the Building
Kathryn Hahn – Agatha All Along
Jean Smart – Hacks
I'm so happy for Kathryn Hahn getting in here! It's gonna be a Jean Smart win again though.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A LIMITED SERIES, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
Cate Blanchett – Disclaimer
Jodie Foster – True Detective: Night Country
Cristin Milioti – The Penguin
Sofia Vergara – Griselda
Naomi Watts – Feud: Capote vs. The Swans
Kate Winslet – The Regime
I want Cristin to win this soooooooooooooooooooooooo badly.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL/COMEDY, OR DRAMA
Liza Colon-Zayas – The Bear
Hannah Einbinder – Hacks
Dakota Fanning – Ripley
Jessica Gunning – Baby Reindeer
Allison Janey – The Diplomat
Kali Reis – True Detective: Night Country
Hannah Einbinder might as well just switch to lead where she belongs, because she's not winning over Gunning here either.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
Donald Glover – Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Jake Gyllenhaal – Presumed Innocent
Gary Oldman – Slow Horses
Eddie Redmayne – The Day of the Jackal
Hiroyuki Sanada – ShĹŤgun
Billy Bob Thornton – Land Man

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Adam Brody – Nobody Wants This
Ted Danson – A Man on the Inside
Steve Martin – Only Murders in the Building
Jason Segal – Shrinking
Martin Short – Only Murders in the Building
Jeremy Allen White – The Bear
Yes, chef!

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A LIMITED SERIES, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
Colin Farrell – The Penguin
Richard Gadd – Baby Reindeer
Kevin Kline – Disclaimer
Cooper Koch – Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story
Ewan McGregor – A Gentleman in Moscow
Andrew Scott – Ripley
I'm so happy for Farrell, but Gadd is likely going to take this too, which is fine. Hopefully Colin picks up an Emmy next year when Gadd won't be eligible. He deserves it for all that makeup alone.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL/COMEDY, OR DRAMA
Tadanobu Asano – ShĹŤgun
Javier Bardem – Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story
Harrison Ford – Shrinking
Jack Lowden – Slow Horses
Diego Luna – La Máquina
Ebon Moss-Bachrach – The Bear

BEST PERFORMANCE IN A STAND-UP COMEDY ON TELEVISION
Jamie Foxx – What Had Happened Was…
Nikki Glaser – Someday You’ll Die
Seth Meyers – Dad Man Walking
Adam Sandler – Love You
Ali Wong – Single Lady
Ramy Youssef – More Feelings
Okay, I can actually get behind this as a category. Just keep this and drop the Box Office one.

  1. I'm rooting for The Substance, NIN, and whatever I have seen. I hate that Box Office award. The stand-up award can stay.

    1. I don't even understand its purpose. Like...cool your movie is expensive? Leave me alone. lol

  2. As usual, I've seen like one of these movies.

I have thought about watching the new Ted Danson show, though. I just finished The Good Place, and he was magnificent in that.

    1. He was fun in that! I could see his new show being kind of similar.

  3. Mwahahaha!! The Musical/Comedy category now includes body horror; the Globes voters truly are out of their minds! But then again they put The Martian in this category as well a few years ago :D

Ah ok, so it's Gomez that you were referring to on your comment. I don't know if I'll watch that movie (it feels more like an agenda piece than an artform), so I'll take your word for it!

    1. The Martian never bothered me because that movie was legit funny. But like...Get Out? The Substance? Just add horror to it if you're not going to put them in drama. Yes, it's Gomez. I commend her for trying something new, but bless her, she just can't act.
