Life, Love, and the Movies Blogathon.

This lovely new blogathon was started by Nostra over at My Film Views and Karamel Kinema (a blog I wasn't familiar with until this was posted, but head on over there because its GORGEOUS) They ask us to answer questions about life, love and the movies. Here are my answers!

Life

1. What was the first movie you saw in the cinema and what do you remember about that visit?
The first film I can remember seeing in theaters was The Lion King, and I remember loving it. My dad took me, and I remember immediately afterwards we went out to whatever burger joint had the Lion King toys in their kid meals so we could get them.

2. Are there any movies you have very strong memories of which are not because of the movie (for example something which happened at the time you were watching it)?
Whenever I think of Jurassic Park, my mind goes back to an old friend I had when I was younger who wasn't allowed to watch it, so I had to turn it off when she came over. That surprised young me, because how could anyone's parents not want them to see a dinosaur movie?

3. Which movies had a big impact on you and changed a (small) part of your view on life?
American Beauty, the first time I saw it was whenever it first came out on TV, I had some family problems, but seeing the Burnhams in all their erratic fucked up-ness made me realize that whatever I was going through, it could be worse.

4. Do you have any comfort movies which you return to because you are in a specific mood (for example if you are feeling down/nursing a heartbreak)?
I don't know about a specific mood, but I have plenty that I'll go back to randomly. Seven, Step Brothers, Gothika. I really can't pin point anything, it mostly ends up being a different film each time.

5. If a movie would be made about your life, what type of movie would it be and who would you like to portray you?
I would want it to be an independent drama/comedy. With some dark things and some lovely things. I would want Evan Rachel Wood to play me, because she's awesome and like me is a fairly tall blondish person. Plus we're the same age.

6. Which existing movie best represents you?
I think different films could represent me over the years. Thirteen, maybe when I was a moody teenager. Dreamland when I ended up being indecisive on what I wanted to study in college at first.  Up in the Air, when I get to caught up in work.

7. If you knew you would die tomorrow, what would be the last movie you would want to see?
Short Term 12, because damnit, Netflix, I'm still waiting for you to send it to me!

8. If you can spend your life working in the film industry, what would you be and why? (you know, director, producer, actor, cinematographer, costume designer, sound designer etc?)
I would love to be a writer, but I know I'm not good enough. I think working with costumes, make up, or production design would be fun. I'd love going out and finding little things that would help the movie come to life. I love it when there's a little hint of something in the background of a scene. Like in American Beauty, when Lester has a sign on his desk that says "look closer" and that's the tagline of the film. I love things like that.

Love

1. Did you ever have a first kiss with someone while at the cinema and if so which movie was playing?
A boy kissed me during the first Resident Evil, which at the time was far more interesting than the actual film.

2. What is your favorite movie relationship and why?
Weirdly enough, Celeste and Jesse in 'Celeste and Jesse Forever' came to mind. I know they're in the process of a divorce in the film. But their relationship was so unique and still obviously full of love, I absolutely loved the final scene where they kiss each other good bye.

3. When did your love for movies start and how has it grown?
I think it started to grow in high school when I started working at a movie theater, then I read one of the 'coming soon' magazines my theater got and noticed all these independent movies that were listed. That's when I started searching out smaller films and that's when I started to fall in love with cinema.

4. If you have to choose one film to watch with your loved one, what would it be and why?
The Wolf of Wall Street. We both saw it, but with separate friends. I love watching comedies with my husband because I feel like I always laugh a little more. I'd like to be able to laugh at that one together.

5. If you can choose one character from a movie to be your significant other who would it be and why?
Well, that's hard because I'm married. I'd chose Bruce Wayne, because he's Batman. It's always good to be with Batman.

6. What was the first movie that made you fall in in love with film and cinema?
American Beauty was the first film out of the 'norm' for me to fall in love with. (I was all about Adam Sandler comedies as a tween) I credit Mysterious Skin too. That's one of the first independent films I sought out, and it was so different from everything else I had watched, that it made me appreciate more of what's out there.

7. How did your passion for movies turn you into a movie blogger?
I posted on IMDb a lot, then that place got a little hostile, but I started to notice other users that blogged, so I thought I would give it a try myself to find a better place to talk about film.

8. What is your favorite date from a movie?
As many others have mentioned - I love the IKEA date from (500) Days of Summer. Gil and Adriana going dancing in Midnight in Paris. Ron Burgandy playing jazz flute for Veronica in Anchorman. Janie and Ricky staring at the bag video in American Beauty. Matthew, Isabelle, and Theo running through the Lourve in The Dreamers. (That counts as a date, right?)

Comments

  1. Bruce Wayne is such a good answer! And yep, I'm another blogger who chose the (500) Days of Summer date but that Anchorman one is brilliant!

  2. Fun answers Brittani! I'd love to be a screenwriter too, that's always been my dream since I was little (when everyone wanted to be a doctor, lawyer, etc.). Oooh Bruce Wayne, who WOULDN'T want to be with Batman!

    1. I do too. You don't really expect "the most beautiful thing I've ever seen" to be a plastic bag.

  5. I adore all the love you give for American Beauty. That film had such a big impact on me. It made me truly love movies. My first thought when you chose Bruce Wayne as your significant other was, "Oh dear." Remember what happened to his last girlfriend!!! haha

    1. I love hearing that about American Beauty! It was such a powerful thing for me. I've got this whole Bruce Wayne thing figured out. He would train me to be badass, and I would assume the role of Bat Girl. That way no one can kidnap me for collateral because I can just choke bitches too.
