Review: Avengers: Infinity War

It all leads up to this.

Thanos (Josh Brolin) has been watching from afar and is now ready to make his move attacking Earth. After the events of Civil War, the Avengers are fractured and now must band together once again to fight for all humanity.

To say I was hyped for this movie is an understatement. I love the MCU (most of the time) and what they bring to the table. Ten years of films have been leading up to the war against Thanos and here we are. I kept my expectations in check, there's a lot of people in this film and I always knew there was a chance it could be over stuffed. So how did it do?

Incredible. The thing I worried most about a film of this magnitude was that it would be overstuffed, but it never felt that way. Even characters who only had a scene or two felt like a big deal because they made it into Infinity War in the first place. The pacing was perfect. This didn't feel like a two and a half hour movie at all.

The best part as always is the chemistry between the actors. Not just the lasting relationships like Steve and Bucky and Wanda with Vision, but the characters meeting for the first time. Doctor Strange and Tony Stark together was one of my favorite things. Same with Rocket and Thor. As for acting, Robert Downey Jr, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen and Chris Hemsworth get to shine the most. Downey really makes you feel the weight that's on Tony's shoulders. Cumberbatch gets to expand on his powers while Olsen is the emotional center of the big climax. And while I went into this film expecting to only perv on Steve, Thor got an entrance that almost rivals his bridge scene in Thor: Ragnarok. On the Guardians side, Gamora (Zoe Saldana) has an arc I love as well.

If I have any complaints, it's that I wish we would've spend more time in Wakanda and with Team Cap. This film is very space heavy, but it makes sense that it is. This is Thanos we're talking about. Speaking of Thanos, he's easily one of the best comic book villains out there. He felt fully fleshed out and his motives were more realistic.

We all knew this was going to end in a heavy fashion, but that still doesn't ruin the rewatchability. I'm going to see this again later today.

  1. I really want to see this film but I have to see the Thor movie from last year and Guardians as well. I am glad that the some of the cast members are not cast aside. From your review it really works well.

    1. Ragnarok was excellent. Guardians 2 is one of the weaker ones but it has some great stories in there.

  2. I'm still recovering from what I saw. Fucking Thanos. He just made my all-time list of the greatest villains ever. Somewhere in the top 10 or top 5. That ending.... whoa...

Oh, and here's something about that post-credit sequence. I know where it was shot. It's on Peachtree Road as I recognized that location as I've been there. Man, it felt close to home as the audience I saw it with were stunned at the location and we were barely recovering from what had happened. Some were crying as I was also in tears and some were just in shock.

That's the mark of a great movie. I don't know if I want to see it again but I hope the next film brings us a fitting resolution. Fucking Thanos.

    1. I definitely want to see this again, and as many times in theaters as possible because even though I know it's the longest of shots, I want something to knock Avatar off the all time box office gross list. lol

  3. Excellent review Britt! You and I are pretty much in Sync here. For me the big letdown was that there wasn't enough Black Widow or Winter Soldier--hoping the rectify that in the next part. Keep up the great work kiddo.

    1. Scarlett really phoned this movie in, I actually kind of shocked considering I've never taken issue with her acting before. I wish there were more of them as well.

  4. I'm so glad you liked it this much and that there were so many scenes with Wanda, I know you like her! I thought Holland stole the show but RDJ was excellent. Everyone was really other than ScarJo lol

    1. Holland is awesome. He has excellent chemistry with pretty much everyone he encounters (except Pratt who is cardboard) It made me miss Aunt May a bit though, I loved him and Tomei together in Homecoming.

    1. While I'm excited for Brie and the character, I'm still a bit iffy on how they're going to handle her.

  6. SIGH.

For what it was, it was done well, but... I dunno. I didn't read any spoilers but I STILL saw all the "shocking" stuff coming from a mile away. Except for the post-credits scene, which didn't even bother me because I could have sworn he was dead already lol.

I really did love all the interactions between the characters who had never met yet. I cackled like a madman every single time Thor referred to Rocket as a rabbit.

    1. Poor Rocket, never getting called the species of alien that he really is.

I thought the shocking stuff was predictable as well, but most super hero movies are. It didn't make it any less effective for me.

  7. For me Thor is now the most entertaining Avenger, which it really interesting because I never liked him in the comics. Overall the film definitely gave most characters a good scene which is impressive since there are so many in play at this point!

    1. Oh man, me either. I didn't even care for the first Thor movie and now I feel like a Thor stan.

  8. Awesome review! I was surprised by how much Infinity War came together. It did spend a little too much time in space versus Cap's storyline, but the characters and chemistry were well-placed. The MCU has to have one of the best casts ever.

    1. Thank you! Yeah, I wish we would've gotten more of Cap in Wakanda too. Hopefully they load that DVD up with extra scenes lol

  9. I think one of the things, as you allude to, that make these films so popular is, the relationships between both old and new characters.
