2023 Screen Actors Guild Nominations

The SAG awards came in hot after the Globes and blessed us with a few great surprises! There is so much to love here and it's really only the TV categories I had *big* issues with. Below are a list of the nominees + my thoughts

Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture
Babylon
The Banshees of Inisherin
Everything Everywhere All at Once
The Fabelmans
Women Talking
I LOVE Babylon being here and Inisherin is a surprise considering the main 4 actors also got individual nominations. If I had it my way, I would've swapped The Fabelmans for The Woman King or Glass Onion. Not that the Fabelmans had a bad cast, but I just hate Michelle Williams' performance in it that much.

Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture
Austin Butler, “Elvis”
Colin Farrell, “The Banshees of Inisherin”
Brendan Fraser, “The Whale”
Bill Nighy, “Living”
Adam Sandler, “Hustle”
WHO saw Adam Sandler coming? I didn't. Was he on ANYONE's list? I thought he was good in Hustle so this is quite the surprise. I'm still team Farrell.

Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture
Cate Blanchett, “TÁR”
Viola Davis, “The Woman King”
Ana de Armas, “Blonde”
Danielle Deadwyler, “Till”
Michelle Yeoh, “Everything Everywhere All at Once”
Danielle Deadwyler getting a nomination! I would love it if this were the Oscar line up. 5/5 no notes.

Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Paul Dano, “The Fabelmans”
Brendan Gleeson, “The Banshees of Inisherin”
Barry Keoghan, “The Banshees of Inisherin”
Ke Huy Quan, “Everything Everywhere All at Once”
Eddie Redmayne, “The Good Nurse”
My manifesting Paul Dano into a nomination worked! I don't think Eddie will be here Oscar night. I'm surprised to see he was the one that made the cut. Brenden, Barry and Ke Huy feel like locks at this point.

Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Angela Bassett, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
Hong Chau, “The Whale”
Kerry Condon, “The Banshees of Inisherin”
Jamie-Lee Curtis, “Everything Everywhere All at Once”
Stephanie Hsu, “Everything Everywhere All at Once”
STEPHANIE HSU!! I'm so happy.

Ensemble in a Drama Series
Better Call Saul
The Crown
Ozark
Severance
The White Lotus
House of the Dragon not being here is a shame. They are far more memorable than The Crown this season.

Male Actor in a Drama Series
Jonathan Banks, “Better Call Saul”
Jason Bateman, “Ozark”
Jeff Bridges, “The Old Man”
Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul”
Adam Scott, “Severance”
For the love of God LET Bob Odenkirk win something.

Female Actor in a Drama Series
Jennifer Coolidge, “The White Lotus”
Elizabeth Debicki, “The Crown”
Julia Garner, “Ozark”
Laura Linney, “Ozark”
Zendaya, “Euphoria”
Again with The Crown. No Rhae Seehorn for Better Call Saul? Not Sydney Sweeney for Euphoria? None of the other White Lotus women? We could've done better.

Ensemble in a Comedy Series
Abbott Elementary
Barry
The Bear
Hacks
Only Murders in the Building
I truly do not get the love for Only Murder. Something like Reservations Dogs or What We Do in the Shadows would've been a cooler nomination. Even Marvelous Mrs. Masiel, then Stephanie Hsu would be a double nominee.

Male Actor in a Comedy Series
Anthony Carrigan, “Barry”
Bill Hader, “Barry”
Steve Martin, “Only Murders in the Building”
Martin Short, “Only Murders in the Building”
Jeremy Allen White, “The Bear”
I love seeing Anthony Carrigan get some love. I'm for Jeremy Allen White again.

Female Actor in a Comedy Series
Christina Applegate, “Dead to Me”
Rachel Brosnahan, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”
Quinta Brunson, “Abbott Elementary”
Jenna Ortega, “Wednesday”
Jean Smart, “Hacks”

Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series
Steve Carell, “The Patient”
Taron Edgerton, “Blackbird”
Sam Elliott, “1883”
Paul Walter Houser, “Blackbird”
Evan Peters, “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”
Steve Carell for The Patient! He and Domnhall Gleeson were so good in that. I weep for Andrew Garfield and the far superior Under The Banner of Heaven though.

Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series
Emily Blunt, “The English”
Jessica Chastain, “George & Tammy”
Julia Garner, “Inventing Anna”
Niecy Nash-Betts, “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”
Amanda Seyfried, “The Dropout”
I have never even heard of The English.

Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture
Avatar: The Way of Water
The Batman
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Top Gun: Maverick
The Woman King

Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series
Andor
The Boys
House of the Dragon
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Stranger Things”

    1. Sandler felt like he came out of nowhere. I really liked Carrell's performance in The Patient, even if that series had a very divisive ending.

  2. I think there's a weird part of me that wants to see Adam Sandler win a SAG award just for the stupid speech he will have and to see all of those actors be pissed that they lost to Bobby Boucher.

I read last night for the taping of AEW Rampage, Paul Walter Hauser showed up to show his Golden Globe as he was just excited... until ugh... Jeff Jarrett showed up with Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh to ruin it and the Man Who is Fond of Slapping Nutz yet Never Drew a Dime hit Hauser with his guitar. I can't fucking stand Slapnutz as he is the one thing in AEW that makes me change the channel. Hauser better get some revenge and send Slapnutz back to Memphis.

    1. Apparently I need to watch Black Bird when I get Apple TV back...whenever Ted Lasso S3 decides to come out.

  3. I am Team Women Talking for Best Ensemble and Team Bassett in Best Supporting Actress. Yes, Team Farrell as well. He could've gotten a Best Supporting nod for The Batman, too!
