Review: Premium Rush

No brakes, no problem.

Wilee (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a thrill seeking bike messenger in New York City. One day he is assigned to a last minute delivery to get a very special envelope to someone in China Town. A corrupt police officer, Monday (Michael Shannon) attempts to intercept Wilee while he's on his mission. Soon, he finds out what the contents in the envelope really entail, and with the help of his fellow biker girlfriend, Vanessa, (Dania Ramirez) he's determined to get it to it's destination.

First off, I have to admit that a movie about bike messengers wouldn't normally grab my attention. However, since my favorite actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars, I'll throw that notion out the window. I had actually read some pretty harsh reviews prior, and I have to say that it really wasn't that bad. I actually had a pretty good time watching. The director gives us many shots of routes that Wilee considers taking in his head, and with those shots we see the consequences. Even if the effects were pretty bad, the idea was still interesting. The plot is pretty generic and had a few holes. Only Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, and a small part by Aasif Mandvi really leave an impression. Either way, it was a fun matinee to catch.

Ok..I'm bias, I just liked staring at Joseph Gordon-Levitt's toned legs.

  1. Although there were some implausible aspects, I'd say this was fairly entertaining. Just like JGL's characters name, Wilee, this could be similar to a Road Runner cartoon! :) Only Michael Shannon is Wild E Coyote chasing and trying everything to catch the Road Runner (JGL) and failing every time.
