Thursday Movie Picks - Falsely Accused

This week's theme from Wandering Through The Shelves was suggested by the lovely Getter! We're talking about people falsely accused of crimes this week. There's so many movies to pick from this week, but three came to mind immediately.

1) The Hunt -
I have never wanted to burn a fictional town of people to the ground as much as I did when I finished this movie. Masterful performance by Mads Mikelson. Rage inducing everywhere else.

2) The Shawshank Redemption -
If there's one thing I miss about cutting cable (besides Baseball) it's the amount of times this movie was on, and how it looped me in to watching it in full every time.

3) The Green Mile -
Michael Clarke Duncan was taken from us way too soon and I cry watching him in this movie EVERY time. Fuck the police.

  1. Shawshank is pretty close to perfect. I like The Green Mile as well, but it's so long that I have to be in the mood to watch it.

I really need to catch up with The Hunt one of these days.

    1. The Green Mile definitely has a run time issue, especially with how depressing it is.

  2. I so want to see the first film. Wonder if it’s on cable now?. I love...LOVE Shawshank Redemtpion. I remember when it came out and no one knew what the film was about. It was said the name killed it at the box office but gained money when it came out on video. When I finally saw it, I realized that it was the perfect title. The Green Mile is such a good movie as well. I was so sad when I heard about Michael. He died way too young.

    1. He did. it makes me so sad. I highly recommend The Hunt. It's a wonderful film, though very frustrating.

    1. I don't think I could watch The Green Mile again. It makes me too sad.

  4. Have seen the bottom two. Both based on a Stephen King novel. You could potentially do a theme within a theme.

    1. I could have! Need to read a bit more King first.

  5. Fuck the police indeed. The Hunt is a classic and I'd totally join you in that town burning. I just need to know what do you need? A bazooka or a flamethrower? Sports and AEW are the reasons why I'm reluctant in cutting the cord as well as stuff that my mother likes to watch though she just discovered TUBI.

  6. I put off seeing both of your last two picks for years for various reasons-Green Mile because of the length and Shawshank because of my indifference to Tim Robbins-but once I finally got around to them l liked both far more than I expected to.

I'd read the Stephen King short story that Shawshank was based on years before and had liked it so I had a little foreknowledge about it but the performances are what made it (yes even Robbins). Green Mile pulled me in so the extended runtime didn't present nearly the challenge I thought it would, though it could have easily trimmed a half hour without hurting the story.

So many choices this time! The Fugitive with Harrison Ford would fit beautifully and is an excellent film.

Other than that I instantly thought of the Bogie/Bacall flick "Dark Passage" where the first portion of the movie is filmed subjectively with all the characters speaking directly to the camera when addressing Bogart's character until he has plastic surgery to conceal his identity.

There's also Atonement where Briony's false accusation leads to the mega tragedy that follows with great acting by all.

    1. Dark Passage is one I need to check out. That sounds interesting. I love Atonement as I've mentioned before. The Fugitive I don't think I've seen all the way through.

You should check out The Hunt!

    2. I'm going to double-up on the recommendation for The Fugitive. That's a movie where, in this house, if you come across it while channel surfing, you've stopped surfing. If it's on somewhere, my wife is absolutely watching it.

    3. Definitely going to watch it in full. I've seen bits and pieces over the years.
