2023 Emmy Nominations

It's Emmy season, baby! Voters did that thing again where they only see two shows and nominate everyone in them. There are some welcomed nominations, and some egregious snubs. Here are a list of the main acting/show nominations + my thoughts.

BEST COMEDY SERIES
Abbott Elementary
Barry
The Bear
Jury Duty
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Only Murders in the Building
Ted Lasso
Wednesday
I have never heard about Jury Duty. It's on something called Freevee, which I think is related to Amazon? No clue. I'm just happy for Abbott, The Bear, and Ted Lasso.

BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Bill Hader (Barry)
Martin Short (Only Murders in the Building)
Jason Segel (Shrinking)
Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso)
Jeremy Allen White (The Bear)
Bill Hader is being nominated for a good dramatic performance in a comedy series and that's why Barry will never win anything. This is White's year anyways.

BEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Christina Applegate (Dead to Me)
Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary)
Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face)
Jenna Ortega (Wednesday)
This is about what everyone was expecting. Quinta is the MVP in my eyes.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Anthony Carrigan (Barry)
Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso)
Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso)
James Marsden (Jury Duty)
Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear)
Tyler James Williams (Abbott Elementary)
Henry Winkler (Barry)
PHIL DUNSTER! I hope he wins. He had a stronger season than Goldstein who has already won. Ebon Moss-Bachrach getting in is also pretty awesome, as is Tyler James Williams who is so great on Abbott.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
Alex Borstein (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
Ayo Edebiri (The Bear)
Janelle James (Abbott Elementary)
Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary)
Juno Temple (Ted Lasso)
Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso)
Jessica Williams (Shrinking)
Ayo! Hannah! Janelle and Sheryl! I really do need to watch Shrinking but I already cancelled my Apple TV service and probably won't get it back for a while.

BEST DRAMA SERIES
Andor (Disney+)
Better Call Saul (AMC)
The Crown (Netflix)
House of the Dragon (HBO/Max)
The Last of Us (HBO/Max)
Succession (HBO/Max)
The White Lotus (HBO/Max)
Yellowjackets (Showtime)
I watch all of these shows! And I'm happy for all of their nominations aside from The Crown. This new season was so boring I didn't even finish it. I would've left it off entirely.

BEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters)
Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets)
Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale)
Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us)
Keri Russell (The Diplomat)
Sarah Snook (Succession)
I'm really happy to see Sarah, Bella and Melanie here. Emmys still love Elisabeth even with The Handmaid's Tale not having nearly as much steam as it used to.

BEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Jeff Bridges (The Old Man)
Brian Cox (Succession)
Kieran Culkin (Succession)
Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul)
Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us)
Jeremy Strong (Succession)
Succession broke a record with having 3 actors in this category. Maybe all that vote splitting will finally get Bob Odenkirk an Emmy even though I really want Kieran Culkin to win? It's hard. Maybe they should tie. I'm really disappointed Paddy Consodine didn't make it in for House of the Dragon. That was an incredible performance that has been insanely overlooked

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
F. Murray Abraham (The White Lotus)
Nicholas Braun (Succession)
Michael Imperioli (The White Lotus)
Theo James (The White Lotus)
Matthew Macfadyen (Succession)
Alan Ruck (Succession)
Will Sharpe (The White Lotus)
Alexander Skarsgård (Succession)
This category is embarrassing. It makes them look like they only saw two shows. If I'm  being completely honest, only Matthew Mcfayden gave anything remotely awards-worthy in this role. There are so many great supporting players in House of the Dragon and Better Call Saul. You couldn't have thrown any of them in?

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus)
Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown)
Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus)
Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus)
Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus)
Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul)
J. Smith-Cameron (Succession)
Simona Tabasco (The White Lotus)
Again, there are too many White Lotus nominations here. They only needed Coolidge, Fahy, and Plaza. Olivia or Millie from House of the Dragon would've been a good addition. Could be good luck for Rhea Seehorn though.

BEST LIMITED OR ANTHOLOGY SERIES
Beef
Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story
Daisy Jones & The Six
Fleishman Is in Trouble
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi getting in over HBO's Love & Death really surprised me. I didn't expect Fleishman Is in Trouble to get so much love either. I've had that sitting in my Hulu queue for ages and never start it. I'm rooting for Beef and Daisy Jones

BEST TELEVISION MOVIE
Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas
Fire Island
Hocus Pocus 2
Prey
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
I swear Prey came out 2 years ago. Weird is a great choice, I'm happy it got nominated.

BEST ACTOR IN A LIMITED OR ANTHOLOGY SERIES OR TV MOVIE
Taron Egerton (Black Bird)
Kumail Nanjiani (Welcome to Chippendales)
Evan Peters (Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story)
Daniel Radcliffe (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story)
Michael Shannon (George & Tammy)
Steven Yeun (Beef)
I'm glad Daniel Radcliffe snuck in! He was great in Weird. I'm always happy for Steven Yeun. I hope he wins it.

BEST ACTRESS IN A LIMITED OR ANTHOLOGY SERIES OR TV MOVIE
Lizzy Caplan (Fleishman Is in Trouble)
Jessica Chastain (George & Tammy)
Dominique Fishback (Swarm)
Kathryn Hahn (Tiny Beautiful Things)
Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & The Six)
Ali Wong (Beef)
No Elizabeth Olsen here for Love & Death is some serious bullshit. That was the snub that bothered me the most.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A LIMITED OR ANTHOLOGY SERIES OR TV MOVIE
Murray Bartlett (Welcome To Chippendales)
Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird)
Richard Jenkins (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story)
Joseph Lee (Beef)
Ray Liotta (Black Bird)
Young Mazino (Beef)
Jesse Plemons (Love & Death)
Jesse Plemons snuck in for Love & Death so I KNOW you saw Elizabeth, Emmy voters!

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A LIMITED OR ANTHOLOGY SERIES OR TV MOVIE
Annaleigh Ashford (Welcome To Chippendales)
Maria Bello (Beef)
Claire Danes (Fleishman Is In Trouble)
Juliette Lewis (Welcome To Chippendales)
Camila Morrone (Daisy Jones & The Six)
Niecy Nash-Betts (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story)
I'm happy for Camila Morrone, she had such a great role in Daisy Jones. Glad to see her get some love. Same with Annaleigh Ashford. I have not seen Welcome to Chippendales, but she's great in everything.

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series
Murray Bartlett, The Last of Us
James Cromwell, Succession
Lamar Johnson, The Last of Us
Arian Moayed, Succession
Nick Offerman, The Last of Us
Keivonn Montreal Woodard, The Last of Us
Neither of these Succession actors should be nominated over Andy Serkis in Andor. So disappointing.

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series
Hiam Abbass, Succession
Cherry Jones, Succession
Melanie Lynskey, The Last of Us
Storm Reid, The Last of Us
Anna Torv, The Last of Us
Harriet Walter, Succession
More of the Emmys watching two shows.

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series
Becky Ann Baker, Ted Lasso
Quinta Brunson, Saturday Night Live
Taraji P. Henson, Abbott Elementary
Judith Light, Poker Face
Sarah Niles, Ted Lasso
Harriet Walter, Ted Lasso

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series
Jon Bernthal, The Bear
Luke Kirby, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Nathan Lane, Only Murders in the Building
Pedro Pascal, Saturday Night Live
Oliver Platt, The Bear
Sam Richardson, Ted Lasso
I love these nominations for The Bear.

    1. I'm a bit surprised Wednesday got a series nod. I thought Ortega would be the only big one.

  2. No Elizabeth Olsen? Andy Serkis? ERW for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story? Selena Gomez? Ms. Marvel only gets 3 nominations in the tech categories? SHENANIGANS!!!!!

I hope there's no ceremony this year. The SAG-WGA strike must continue!

    1. I cannot picture Selena Gomez giving an awards worthy performance in anything lol. Her only emotion is sarcasm, but I believe she is nominated as a producer. Serkis I thought would be a shoo-in but he really gets robbed left and right with awards. And I weep for Lizzie. She had to have been close.

  3. I thought I posted here. I've seen a bit of Abbott Elementary which is funny. I actually like Ghosts more. I've watched Wednesday and don't see that here. The rest...I haven't seen
