2021 Emmy Predictions: Who Will Win, Who Should Win

The Emmys are coming up on September 19th, and it's time for me to attempt to guess all the winners and fail miserably! Here's who I think should win, and in some cases, who should win.

Outstanding Drama Series
“The Boys”
“Bridgerton”
“The Crown”
“The Handmaid’s Tale”
“Lovecraft Country”
“The Mandalorian”
“Pose”
“This Is Us”
Who will and should win: The Crown
It's hard to say who "should" win because there's a lot of excellent shows here, but unless the Emmys go nuts for Lovecraft Country, I see The Crown prevailing for its strongest season yet.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Uzo Aduba, “In Treatment”
Olivia Colman, “The Crown”
Emma Corrin, “The Crown”
Elisabeth Moss, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
MJ Rodriguez, “Pose”
Jurnee Smollett, “Lovecraft Country”
Who will win: Emma Corrin
Who should win: MJ Rodriguez
This is hard, and I think there's a chance Colman and Corrin could cancel each other out, but I'm predicting a big turn out for The Crown, so she feels like the best bet. I wish MJ would win personally, even if I didn't love the final season of Pose, she's been doing excellent work for the show's entire run.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Sterling K. Brown, “This Is Us”
Jonathan Majors, “Lovecraft Country”
Josh O’Connor, “The Crown”
Regé-Jean Page, “Bridgerton”
Billy Porter, “Pose”
Matthew Rhys, “Perry Mason”
Who will win: Josh O'Connor
Who should win: him, Porter, or Majors.
Again, I think The Crown is going to win big, but I would love if Porter or Majors won here. Both were excellent.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Gillian Anderson, “The Crown”
Helena Bonham Carter, “The Crown”
Madeline Brewer, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Ann Dowd, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Aunjanue Ellis, “Lovecraft Country”
Emerald Fennell, “The Crown”
Yvonne Strahovski, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Samira Wiley, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Who will and should win: Gillian Anderson
I think this is as close as we are getting to a lock.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Giancarlo Esposito, “The Mandalorian”
O-T Fagbenle, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
John Lithgow, “Perry Mason”
Tobias Menzies, “The Crown”
Max Minghella, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Chris Sullivan, “This is Us”
Bradley Whitford, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Michael Kenneth Williams, “Lovecraft Country”
Who will and should win: Michael K Williams
Even before his untimely death on September 6th, I feel he was the front runner for this category and I hate that we won't get to see the look on his face when he finally wins. I'm still gutted over this.

Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series
“I May Destroy You”
“Mare of Easttown”
“The Queen’s Gambit”
“The Underground Railroad”
“WandaVision”
Who will win: The Queen's Gambit
Who should win: Wandavision or I May Destroy You
This is such a tough category because all of these shows are worthy, but The Queen's Gambit blew through all the awards earlier in the year and I don't think they'll slow down.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie
Michaela Coel, “I May Destroy You”
Cynthia Erivo, “Genius: Aretha”
Elizabeth Olsen, “WandaVision”
Anya Taylor-Joy, “The Queen’s Gambit”
Kate Winslet, “Mare of Easttown”
Who will win: Anya Taylor-Joy
Who should win: Olsen or Coel
I love Anya, but the bias is strong for Olsen and Coel. Winslet was awesome in Mare of Easttown too so I wouldn't be upset if she won either.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie
Paul Bettany, “WandaVision”
Hugh Grant, “The Undoing”
Ewan McGregor, “Halston”
Lin-Manuel Miranda, “Hamilton”
Leslie Odom Jr., “Hamilton”
Who will and should win: Leslie Odom Jr
Leslie did an awesome job in Hamilton and he's fresh off two Oscar nominations. I think he'll win here.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie
Renée Elise Goldsberry, “Hamilton”
Kathryn Hahn, “WandaVision”
Moses Ingram, “The Queen’s Gambit”
Julianne Nicholson, “Mare of Easttown”
Jean Smart, “Mare of Easttown”
Phillipa Soo, “Hamilton”
Who will and should win: Kathryn Hahn.
I refuse to entertain anything else and I hope they play Agatha All Along when she wins.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or TV Movie
Thomas Brodie-Sangster, “The Queen’s Gambit”
Daveed Diggs, “Hamilton”
Paapa Essiedu, “I May Destroy You”
Jonathan Groff, “Hamilton”
Evan Peters, “Mare of Easttown”
Anthony Ramos, “Hamilton”
Who will win: Evan Peters
Who should win: Daveed Diggs
Even though Diggs is my favorite Hamilton nominee, and I would scream if Essiedu won, I see Peters winning here.

Outstanding Comedy Series
“Black-ish”
“Cobra Kai”
“Emily in Paris”
“Hacks”
“The Flight Attendant”
“The Kominsky Method”
“Pen15”
“Ted Lasso”
Who will and should win: Ted Lasso
Give me the Ted Lasso sweep I crave.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
Aidy Bryant, “Shrill”
Kaley Cuoco, “The Flight Attendant”
Allison Janney, “Mom”
Tracee Ellis Ross, “Black-ish”
Jean Smart, “Hacks”
Who will win: Jean Smart
Who should win: ?
As of me writing this, I haven't actually seen any of these shows! But Smart has had a great year so this is probably hers.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Anthony Anderson, “Black-Ish”
Michael Douglas, “The Kominsky Method”
William H. Macy, “Shameless”
Jason Sudeikis, “Ted Lasso”
Kenan Thompson, “Kenan”
Who will and should win: Jason Sudeikis

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Aidy Bryant, “Saturday Night Live”
Hannah Einbinder, “Hacks”
Kate McKinnon, “Saturday Night Live”
Rosie Perez, “The Flight Attendant”
Cecily Strong, “Saturday Night Live”
Juno Temple, “Ted Lasso”
Hannah Waddingham, “Ted Lasso”
Who will and should win: Hannah Waddingham
I'm hoping she and Juno don't cancel each other out, but she seems to be campaigning more so I think she'll have the edge.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Carl Clemons-Hopkins, “Hacks”
Brett Goldstein, “Ted Lasso”
Brendan Hunt, “Ted Lasso”
Nick Mohammed, “Ted Lasso”
Paul Reiser, “The Kominsky Method”
Jeremy Swift, “Ted Lasso”
Kenan Thompson, “Saturday Night Live”
Bowen Yang, “Saturday Night Live”
Who will and should win: Brett Goldstein
There's a big case for vote splitting here but I think Goldstein is still going to come out on top. It helps that he had a really solid season 2 episode right in the middle of voting eligibility.

Outstanding Variety Talk Series
“Conan”
“The Daily Show with Trevor Noah”
“Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”
“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”
Who will and should win: John Oliver
I hope he makes another Adam Driver joke, selfishly.

Outstanding TV Movie
“Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square”
“Robin Roberts Presents: Mahalia”
“Oslo”
“Sylvie’s Love”
“Uncle Frank”
Who will and should win: Sylvie's Love
Honestly, I have no idea what's going to win here, I just know I really liked Sylvie's love.

Guest Actress in a Drama Series
Alexis Bledel, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Claire Foy, “The Crown”
McKenna Grace, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Sophie Okonedo, “Ratched”
Phylicia Rashad, “This is Us”
Who will win: Claire Foy
Who should win: McKenna Grace
I can 100% see the Emmys pulling some shit like Foy winning for her 2 minute voiceover, even though Grace winning would be huge.

Guest Actor in a Drama Series
Don Cheadle, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”
Charles Dance, “The Crown”
Timothy Olyphant, “The Mandalorian”
Courtney B. Vance, “Lovecraft Country”
Carl Weathers, “The Mandalorian”
Who will and should win: Courtney B Vance
He had a great showing in Lovecraft Country. I still wish he was in the show more.

Guest Actress in a Comedy Series
Jane Adams, “Hacks”
Yvette Nicole Brown, “A Black Lady Sketch Show”
Bernadette Peters, “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist”
Issa Rae, “A Black Lady Sketch Show”
Maya Rudolph, “Saturday Night Live”
Kristen Wiig, “Saturday Night Live”
Who will win: Maya Rudolph
Who should win: Issa Rae
The fact that Issa has no Emmys for Insecure is offensive enough. I hope she gets something there, but I see them going for Rudolph.

Guest Actor in a Comedy Series
Alec Baldwin, “Saturday Night Live”
Dave Chappelle, “Saturday Night Live”
Morgan Freeman, “The Kominsky Method”
Daniel Kaluuya, “Saturday Night Live”
Daniel Levy, “Saturday Night Live”
Who will and should win: Daniel Kaluuya
Give him an Emmy to keep his Oscar company.

  1. I'm just going to root for WandaVision and other new shows and I do hope Cobra Kai wins an Emmy. That show rules! I also want Michael K. Williams (R.I.P.) to win.

And reading from your Twitter scroll, I'm so looking forward to people tearing Dear Evan Hansen to pieces as the reviews for this film is making feel good. *cackle*

  3. Man am I so, so lost. I have heard of some of these but haven’t seen any. Well, no..I have watched “Mom” more than once and just don’t find it funny at all..I don’t get why it is considered great. As for the others..haven’t seen them because they are on all the channels you must pay more for and it just pisses me off. I have to look up Ted Lasso as I have no clue what that one is about.

  4. I'm with you on Brett Goldstein I know everywhere keeps saying vote splitting but he and Roy are so popular right now I can't imagine him not taking a much deserved win here!

    1. Oh same. I don't think the other nominees have a strong enough following to split many votes.
