2024 Emmy Winners

What a night for the Emmys! Dan and Eugene Levy stuck to banter instead of annoying skits, the Emmys honored several archetypes throughout the show as presenters, which was a nice touch, and there were still a few surprises. Below is a list of winners, plus my thoughts. Of the 20 categories I predicted, I got 13 right.

Outstanding Comedy Series
Abbott Elementary
The Bear
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Hacks
Only Murders in the Building
Palm Royale
Reservation Dogs
The biggest shock of the night was also the last award announced. After The Bear broke the record for single wins for a comedy, they didn't take home the top prize. Honestly, I'm shocked. Even with the "Bear isn't a comedy" argument, I still thought it would prevail. I can't say I'm too upset because Hacks is an excellent show. But wow, what a surprise.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
Quinta Brunson, Abbott Elementary
Ayo Edebiri, The Bear
Selena Gomez, Only Murders in the Building
Maya Rudolph, Loot
Jean Smart, Hacks
Kristen Wiig, Palm Royale
I thought Ayo was winning, but she's never had to go against Jean Smart, and I forgot to take that into account. Smart wins for the 3rd time for this role, and her acceptance speech was hilarious.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Matt Berry, What We Do in the Shadows
Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm
Martin Short, Only Murders in the Building
Steve Martin, Only Murders in the Building
Jeremy Allen White, The Bear
D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Reservation Dogs
Jeremy Allen White wins again. His speech was really endearing, you can tell he loves his cast.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy
Lionel Boyce, The Bear
Paul W. Downs, Hacks
Ebon Moss-Bachrach, The Bear
Paul Rudd, Only Murders in the Building
Tyler James Williams, Abbott Elementary
Bowen Yang, Saturday Night Live
Ebon also repeats!

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy
Carol Burnett, Palm Royale
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Abbott Elementary
Hannah Einbinder, Hacks
Janelle James, Abbott Elementary
Liza Colon-Zayas, The Bear
Liza winning this was another surprise. I thought incorrectly this was where The Bear was most vulnerable but she took it home in one of the most gorgeous green dresses of the night! With how dominate Hacks was, I have to guess people aren't voting for Hannah because she really should be in the Lead category, right?

Outstanding Drama Series
The Crown
Fallout
The Gilded Age
The Morning Show
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Shogun
Slow Horses
3 Body Problem
Shogun remained a big winner and I LOVE that for them.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Donald Glover, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Walton Goggins, Fallout
Gary Oldman, Slow Horses
Hiroyuki Sanada, Shogun
Dominic West, The Crown
I'm going to sound like a broken record, but I was so happy with this win! He deserves it.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Jennifer Aniston, The Morning Show
Maya Erskine, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Carrie Coon, The Gilded Age
Anna Sawai, Shogun
Imelda Staunton, The Crown
Reese Witherspoon, The Morning Show
You would've heard me screaming in the distance if she somehow lost this. I've been rooting for her since the minute I saw her in Shogun. Such a deserved win.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Billy Crudup, The Morning Show
Tadanobu Asano, Shogun
Mark Duplass, The Morning Show
Jon Hamm, The Morning Show
Takehiro Hira, Shogun
Jack Lowden, Slow Horses
Jonathan Pryce, The Crown
I CAN'T with The Morning Show. Maybe it got better in season 3 but season 2 was such a trash fire. Really bummed Asano couldn't take it here.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Christine Baranski, The Gilded Age
Nicole Beharie, The Morning Show
Elizabeth Debicki, The Crown
Greta Lee, The Morning Show
Lesley Manville, The Crown
Karen Pittman, The Morning Show
Holland Taylor, The Morning Show
Debicki is so tall and lovely. I gave up on the Crown during season 5 but I'm sure she was good in season 6.

Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series
Baby Reindeer
Fargo
Lessons in Chemistry
Ripley
True Detective: Night Country
I'm so happy for Richard Gadd, every time he got up there, his speeches just got better. Even though I enjoyed watching Fargo more, I can't be mad at this.

Outstanding TV Movie
Mr Monk's Last Case
Quiz Lady
Red, White, and Royal Blue
Scoop
Unfrosted

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited, Anthology Series or TV Movie
Jodie Foster, True Detective: Night Country
Brie Larson, Lessons in Chemistry
Juno Temple, Fargo
Sofia Vergara, Griselda
Naomi Watts, Feud: Capote vs. the Swans
I know everyone loves this win, but it should've been Juno!!!!

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited, Anthology Series or TV Movie
Matt Bomer, Fellow Travelers
Richard Gadd, Baby Reindeer
Jon Hamm, Fargo
Tom Hollander, Feud: Capote vs. the Swans
Andrew Scott, Ripley
No one was touching Gadd in this, and rightfully so.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited, Anthology Series or TV Movie
Dakota Fanning, Ripley
Lily Gladstone, Under the Bridge
Jessica Gunning, Baby Reindeer
Aja Naomi King, Lessons in Chemistry
Diane Lane, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans
Nava Mau, Baby Reindeer
Kali Reis, True Detective: Night Country
I'm so happy for Gunning here. She was insanely good and deserves this win.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited, Anthology Series, or TV Movie
Jonathan Bailey, Fellow Travelers
Robert Downey Jr., The Sympathizer
Tom Goodman-Hill, Baby Reindeer
John Hawkes, True Detective: Night Country
Lamorne Morris, Fargo
Lewis Pullman, Lessons in Chemistry
Treat Williams, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans
I SCREAMED when Lamorne won this! He was my "should win" and I thought he had zero chance of actually breaking through. This win did give me false hope for Juno, because it came earlier in the show, but still. So happy for him.

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series
Jon Bernthal, The Bear
Matthew Broderick, Only Murders in the Building
Ryan Gosling, Saturday Night Live
Christopher Lloyd, Hacks
Bob Odenkirk, The Bear
Will Poulter, The Bear

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series
Nester Carbonell, Shogun
Paul Dano, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Tracy Letts, Winning Time
Jonathan Pryce, Slow Horces
John Tuturro, Mr. and Mrs. Smith

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy
Olivia Colman, The Bear
Jamie Lee Curtis, The Bear
Kaitlin Olson, Hacks
Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Only Murders in the Building
Maya Rudolph, Saturday Night Live
Kristen Wiig, Saturday Night Live

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama
Michaela Coel, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Claire Foy, The Crown
Marcia Gay Harden, The Morning Show
Sarah Paulson, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Parker Posey, Mr. and Smith Smith

  1. As someone still catching up on the past two decades of television, there are a lot of shows here I don't know, but I do watch The Bear. It's impossible not to as someone who grew up in the shadow of Chicago.

I'm not surprised at the Jamie Lee Curtis win. Holy crap, but that episode is something.

    1. Yes! That episode won for directing too. Easily one of the best The Bear has ever done.

  3. This is Birgit. I didn’t watch it Because I haven’t seen all the shows that are on streaming services. I wil, watch when Jean Smart win as I love her. I will watch the InMemorium as well. I bet Matthew Perry is either at the very beginning or the very end.
