Review: Horns

#nofilter

Ig Parrish (Daniel Radcliffe) is the prime suspect in his beloved girlfriend Merrin's (Juno Temple) murder. He didn't do it, by the way, and all the DNA evidence that could've cleared him has been destroyed. After a night of heavy drinking (and urinating all over the memorial at Merrin's murder site in anger) he wakes up the next morning with horns growing out of his head. When he talks to people, they suddenly start telling him things they never would dream of saying. Eventually, one of them admits to knowing something about what happened to Merrin.

I read the book earlier this year, which I really enjoyed. It turns out I should've waited. When we think about book to movie adaptations, we're always thinking "I hope they don't make any big changes." Well here, it's the little changes that got on my nerves, there's SO many of them. The character's professions, their location, the timeline things occurred, added drama and stupid unnecessary CGI scenes. All of those things were different.

The basic premise of the movie was the same, but it didn't feel like I was watching the same story that I read, and that really pissed me off. It became impossible to enjoy it, because I didn't understand why they would do it this way in the first place.

Memorable Quote: "How about you just love me for the rest of mine." - Merrin (Juno Temple)

  1. I liked it a little more than you did, but I didn't read the book. It's an odd, if somewhat forgettable, movie.

    1. I'm not even that mad about the things they left out, I'm more angry at the things they left in, then changed.

And those wings? Wtf was that?!

  2. I completely missed this in the cinema so I hope to get a chance to watch it soon. I always try and watched the film before I read the book, but obviously that can't be helped sometimes!

    1. I always try to read first, then watch. Maybe I should switch? haha

  3. I didn't read the book, so going in blind, I actually really enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Legit one of the funniest movies I've seen all year. Disappointing to hear it let down compared to the book, though. :\

    1. I think I would've liked it better had I not read the book first. The book was wonderful.

  4. I was so disappointed in this film! I wanted it to be much better, too. There were at least a few funny parts. I really enjoyed the part with the annoying little girl at the doctors office. I also thought Juno Temple was great.

    1. I'm glad they included that part in the film. I'm bummed they left out the part with his Grandmother though. That was morbidly hilarious.

    2. Yes!!! I forgot about that not being added. I was really bummed out by that. Watching that woman go down at high speed would have been hilarious.

  5. I heard this was disappointing as I only downloaded a clip of Radcliffe having sex with Temple. I was disappointed in the lack of nudity from Radcliffe as I kind of want to see what he's packing. I'm bi-curious.

    1. LMAO. Not going to lie, I was curious too. Juno is naked is nearly every film she does nowadays, I think it was time for Radcliffe to take one for the team.

  6. Finally you review it! So, got trouble with adaptations? I have never read the book, that's why I don't really see what's troubling you. Good review, anyway!

    1. Yeah, you wouldn't. It was all the little things. I'm disappointed, but thank you!
