Series Review: The Perfect Couple
I am very behind when it comes to this Nicole Kidman and Liev Schrieber lead murder mystery. There was a lot of buzz around it when it first came out, but I knew I had a long flight coming up and this seemed like the perfect mini series to download and watch. As always, here are my likes and dislikes. Nothing to look forward to here as it's a limited series
LIKES
It's JUICY! This is one of those whodunnits that leads you to a different person in each episode and it does that fairly well. It makes a good case for everyone involved being the murderer.
Liev Schrieber has been on my mind a lot since watching him in the wonderful A Small Light, and here he's the complete opposite. A total mess of a father.
Jack Raynor continues to prove that he should have every single one of Chris Pratt's roles instead.
Director Susanne Bier *chef's kiss*
DISLIKES
I love Dakota Fanning, I do, but I did not buy her for a second as this bitchy, gold digger sister in law. As funny as her character Abby is, Fanning didn't sell me on it. I was always very aware she was acting.
The theme song and dance sequence that makes up the opening credits was horrible. This was something that worked for The Peacemaker but not for this. Complete cringe.
Without giving major spoilers, the act that leads to the character's death is SO stupid.
So was this worth it? Absolutely! At a brisk 6 episodes, this was fun and very easy to get through, especially if you're into the cast involved.
I like short-form shows like this. Sounds like when I finish NOS4A2 I might give this a try.
ReplyDeleteI hope it amuses you!
DeleteI'm on the fence about seeing this as I'm aware that Susanne Bier is hit/miss as she has her good films but then there's something like Serena (though it wasn't entirely her fault) and Bird Box.
ReplyDeleteI forgot about Serena. That was a messs (but I agree, the blame isn't on her there)
DeleteThe cast is terrific for this one and Susanne Bier directing is a major appeal. I don't know when I'll get around to it though, there are too many new Fall movies until Oscar time.
ReplyDeleteAs for this statement 'Jack Raynor continues to prove that he should have every single one of Chris Pratt's roles instead.' I agree! I've actually interviewed him once for a Transformer flick and I thought, this guy is waaaay too good for this movies, so I'm glad to see him doing more meaty roles in TV and movies!
YES! He's great and has been great for a long time.
