2018 SAG Predictions: Who will win, who should win.

Time to predict the Screen Actors Guild Awards! The Globes gave me a pretty good indication of who's winning. Here's who I think is going to win, and in some cases, who should win.

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
The Big Sick
Get Out
Lady Bird
Mudbound
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Who will win: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
Who should win: Any.
I love all of these movies and would be pleased with any of these winning.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
Timothee Chalamet, Call Me By Your Name
James Franco, The Disaster Artist
Daniel Kaluuya, Get Out
Gary Oldman, Darkest Hour
Denzel Washington, Roman J. Israel, Esq.
Who will win: Gary Oldman
Who should win: James Franco or Daniel Kaluuya.
I've only seen their performances and I'm 100% behind both.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
Judi Dench, Victoria & Abdul
Sally Hawkins, The Shape of Water
Frances McDormand, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Margot Robbie, I, Tonya
Saoirse Ronan, Lady Bird
Who will win: Frances McDormand
Who should win: Saoirse Ronan
I think it's still a tight race between the two, but I think Frances has a bit of an edge. Which is a shame because I love Saoirse's performance and she would look wonderful with an Oscar. Frances already has one. lol

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
Steve Carell, Battle of the Sexes
Willem Dafoe, The Florida Project
Woody Harrelson, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Richard Jenkins, The Shape of Water
Sam Rockwell, Three Billboard Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Who will and should win: Sam Rockwell. He's a lock for this season.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
Mary J. Blige, Mudbound
Hong Chau, Downsizing
Holly Hunter, The Big Sick
Allison Janney, I, Tonya
Laurie Metcalf, Lady Bird
Who will win: Allison Janney
Who should win: Laurie Metcalf.
To be fair, I haven't seen I, Tonya so maybe Janney is better but I loved Metcalf in Lady Bird.

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
The Crown
Game of Thrones
The Handmaid’s Tale
Stranger Things
This Is Us
Who will win: The Handmaid's Tale
Who should win, any aside from This Is Us.
Don't get me wrong, but Sterling K. Brown is the only one that blows me out of the water on that show. The rest have strong ensembles and I'd be happy with any of them winning.

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series
black-ish
Curb Your Enthusiasm
GLOW
Orange is the New Black
Veep
Who will win: Orange is the New Black
Who should win: Veep.
OITNB, which isn't a comedy has won this three years in a row and with their diverse cast I don't see that stopping. Veep is the funniest show on television and this year is its final season. I wish it would get a win for it's insanely talented cast.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series
Jason Bateman, Ozark
Sterling K. Brown, This Is Us
Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
David Harbour, Stranger Things
Bob Odenkirk, Better Call Saul
Who will win: Sterling K. Brown
Who should win: Brown, Harbour or Odenkirk
I'm still annoyed that Noah Schnapp isn't the Stranger Things nominee but these award shows will continue to pretend like Millie Bobby Brown is the only child cast member that matters. There's a lot of talent in this category, really I wouldn't be upset with any of them winning. I just have my favorites.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series
Millie Bobby Brown, Stranger Things
Claire Foy, The Crown
Laura Linney, Ozark
Elisabeth Moss, the Handmaid’s Tale
Robin Wright, House of Cards
Who will win: Elisabeth Moss
Who should win: Claire Foy.
Elisabeth is excellent in the Handmaid's Tale but after watching season two of The Crown, man I'm going to miss Claire Foy so much.  She is SO good.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series
Anthony Anderson, black-ish
Aziz Ansari, Master of None
Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm
Sean Hayes, Will & Grace
William H. Macy, Shameless
Marc Maron, GLOW
Who will and should win: Aziz Ansari
I think Larry David could win too, but with Aziz taking the Globe I think he has the edge.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series
Uzo Aduba, Orange is the New Black
Alison Brie, GLOW
Jane Fonda, Grace and Frankie
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep
Lily Tomlin, Grace and Frankie
Who will and should win: Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Uzo has a chance too, but I think since Veep won't win ensemble Julia will take one for the team here.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie
Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock
Jeff Daniels, Godless
Robert De Niro, The Wizard of Lies
Geoffrey Rush, Genius
Alexander Skarsgard, Big Little Lies
Who will and should win: Alexander Skarsgard
Nothing can stop the well deserved Big Little Lies love. Alexander will take this too.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie
Laura Dern, Big Little Lies
Nicole Kidman, Big Little Lies
Jessica Lange, Feud: Bette and Joan
Susan Sarandon, Feud: Bette and Joan
Reese Witherspoon, Big Little Lies
Who will and should win: Nicole Kidman
There's so much talent in this category. Sometimes I wish Feud didn't premiere in the same year as BLL so I could watch Lange and Sarandon duke it out but Nicole will continue her winning streak here. But every woman in this category was wonderful in her role.

  5. Don't kill me, but I think I would gouge my eyes out if Daniel Kaluuya won over Gary Oldman or Denzel Washington! :P And where is Jake Gyllenhaal ("Stronger")?

100% with ya on Ronan and Metcalf. Sooo good.

    1. lol. I haven't seen either of their films so I'm not sure how they stand up. Darkest Hour just looks so...bleh. But I know you love it, I'll eventually give it a shot.

  6. Oh god, if Rockwell really is a lock of the season, then please let it be so. I LOVE that guy and he so deserves it. Best Actress is stacked this year. Hawkins, McDormand, Robbie, Ronan... give it to any one of them and I'd be happy.
