Series Review: The Bear Season 4

Hulu recently dropped season 4 of the much debated but beloved The Bear, so you know I was there to watch it. All 10 episodes went by very quickly, so here are my likes, dislikes, and hopes for season 5.

LIKES

* The cast is still top notch and I admire this show's commitment to the entire cast and not just the "main characters" They've made an effort to flesh everyone out.
* The returning guest stars. It may have been kind of flimsy getting Will Poulter's character back in Chicago, but I loved it anyways. Luca is a great addition, as is the rest of the Ever crew that came along. 
* This was Abby Elliott's standout season and I will scream if she's not Emmy nominated for it. Her fight with Neil in the office about Francie was hysterical. 
* Syd's "I'm getting my hair done" and that guy responding "oh so like an hour?" COMEDY

DISLIKES

* Ebraheim's side story of expanding The Beef should be working, but the fact that it's all happening behind Carmy's back makes it kind of weird. 
* Some of the show's regular beats, like Carmy and Syd not understanding each other, and Richie coming in screaming are starting to wear on me. The Bear has always been about its characters learning to communicate, and after 4 seasons of it, it's getting to be a lot.
* A lot of loose threads were left hanging. When the season first dropped, I saw some people saying that the last episode could serve as a season finale, and now after watching it I don't understand how anyone could think that. Literally so much was left open ended. Syd's contract, Carmy's future, Marcus' dad, What's going on with Unc's finances, The Beef. I feel like they could've tied up at least some of that before leaving us. 

LOOKING FORWARD

* I really hope season 5 is when Syd and Carmy can stop having the following conversation:
"Hey"
"Hey..."
"Last night was..."
"....not cool"
"Yeah..."
"Yeah..."
"I should not have acted like that"
"No, like, you shouldn't"
I have hope after the finale. I think a crucial part of this show is those two working as partners and being on the same page. I hope we get it.
* Season 5 should probably be its last. I'm not sure where they could really take the show moving forward. If the restaurant works, then that's where we should leave it.

Recently, I was talking to someone about who I thought were the best child actors when I was also a child.  Two that really stood out to me were Elijah Wood and Joseph Mazello, and one film those two were in together was called Radio Flyer.  Then I was reminded about the uniqueness of this film. Review: Armand

Official Synopsis : Armand, a 6-year-old boy, is accused of crossing boundaries against his best friend at elementary school. His mother, Elisabeth (Renate Reinsve) is called to his school to discuss an action plan. This is Norway's submission to the 2025 Oscars for Best International Feature and I've been itching to see what else Reinsve can do after her excellent performance in The Worst Person in The World . Turns out, she can do anything. I think she's even better here.  I have to acknowledge the elephant in the room (in the blog?) This is going to get A LOT of comparisons to Germany's The Teachers' Lounge and while those are not completely unwarranted - this is another film set entirely in a school where a crime may have been committed - Armand takes a very different look at its subjects and how it plays out.  The way this is shot is very captivating. My Favorite Movie Youtube Channels

Starting around 2018, I started watching Youtube for more than just movie trailers or music videos whenever a new one dropped. Now I'm in full blown subscription mode and don't bat an eyelash at watching a Youtube video that's over an hour long. I watch Youtube for a few different categories of content, but one of them that I love most is movie/TV essays and commentary, and that's what I'm going to talk about today.
