2026 Golden Globe Nominations
The Golden Globe nominations are upon us! Honestly, I forgot these were being announced today, so this was a nice surprise. Speaking of which, I was surprised by a lot of their choices. Below are a list of nominees, and as always my thoughts.
BEST MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Frankenstein
Hamnet
It Was Just an Accident
The Secret Agent
Sentimental Value
Sinners
The Secret Agent seems to be surging more and more. I'm going to see Hamnet later today, Sinners is my clear favorite for what I have seen.
BEST MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Blue Moon
Bugonia
Marty Supreme
No Other Choice
Nouvelle Vague
One Battle After Another
I wasn't entirely sure where they'd put One Battle After Another because it could go either way. I'm sure it will be an easy win here. The biggest shocker to me is Wicked II not making it. Not because it's amazing, but because it's very "globes" I also didn't realize No Other Choice was a comedy, but it's nice to see more foreign films get nominated for the top prizes. No Kiss of The Spider Woman offends me.
BEST DIRECTOR, MOTION PICTURE
Paul Thomas Anderson – One Battle After Another
Ryan Coogler – Sinners
Guillermo del Toro – Frankenstein
Jafar Panahi – It Was Just an Accident
Joachim Trier – Sentimental Value
Chloe Zhao – Hamnet
Only one woman. I weep.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Jessie Buckley – Hamnet
Jennifer Lawrence – Die, My Love
Renate Reinsve – Sentimental Value
Julia Roberts – After the Hunt
Tessa Thompson – Hedda
Eva Victor – Sorry, Baby
I'm so happy Eva Victor got a shout out!
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Rose Byrne – If I Had Legs I’d Kick You
Cynthia Erivo – Wicked: For Good
Kate Hudson – Song Sung Blue
Chase Infiniti – One Battle After Another
Amanda Seyfried – The Testament of Ann Lee
Emma Stone – Bugonia
Again, I didn't realize If I Had Legs I'd Kick You was a comedy. Maybe that will make more sense when I see it. Glad to see Chase Infiniti make it as a lead. I also love Emma Stone's work in Bugonia so I'm happy to see that honored. Ariana Grande should be here too instead of Supporting though.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN ANY MOTION PICTURE
Emily Blunt – The Smashing Machine
Elle Fanning – Sentimental Value
Ariana Grande – Wicked: For Good
Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas – Sentimental Value
Amy Madigan – Weapons
Teyana Taylor – One Battle After Another
The Smashing Machine getting ANY love is mind boggling to me considering how panned it was. I'm happiest for Madigan and Taylor, but really disappointed Wunmi Mosaku missed for Sinners and Naomi Ackie missed for Sorry, Baby.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Joel Edgerton – Train Dreams
Oscar Isaac – Frankenstein
Dwayne Johnson – The Smashing Machine
Michael B. Jordan – Sinners
Wagner Moura – The Secret Agent
Jeremy Allen White – Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere
I would've swapped Miles Canton for Sinners with The Rock personally. I think Joel Edgerton is the only one that will carry over to Oscars, but I do like a lot of these nominees.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Lee Byung-hun – No Other Choice
Timothee Chalamet – Marty Supreme
George Clooney – Jay Kelly
Leonardo DiCaprio – One Battle After Another
Ethan Hawke – Blue Moon
Jesse Plemons – Bugonia
Glad to see Plemons get a nomination for his great work in Bugonia. This really is a battle between Leo and Timmy though.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN ANY MOTION PICTURE
Benicio Del Toro – One Battle After Another
Jacob Elordi – Frankenstein
Paul Mescal – Hamnet
Sean Penn – One Battle After Another
Adam Sandler – Jay Kelly
Stellan Skarsg̴rd РSentimental Value
I haven't even seen Sentimental Value yet and I'm happy for Stellan Skarsgard. I love this guy, and his contribution to cinema, not only from himself but those beautiful kids he keeps shooting out. Bless that family.
BEST SCREENPLAY, MOTION PICTURE
Hamnet
It Was Just an Accident
Marty Supreme
One Battle After Another
Sentimental Value
Sinners
I still wish the Globes would separate this category into Adapted and Original instead of adding all their other stupid ones. This seems like a strong line up from what I have seen.
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE, MOTION PICTURE
F1: The Movie
Frankenstein
Hamnet
One Battle After Another
Sinners
Sirat
I'm all aboard the Sinners train for score. Ludwig Goransson is a frequent artist in my Spotify Wrapped.
BEST ORIGINAL SONG, MOTION PICTURE
Avatar: Fire and Ash – “Dream as One”
KPop Demon Hunters – “Golden”
Sinners – “I Lied to You”
Train Dreams – “Train Dreams”
Wicked: For Good – “No Place Life Home”
Wicked: For Good – “The Girl in the Bubble”
Both of those Wicked songs suck, I'm sorry. They could've given another K Pop Demon Hunters song a chance or even Zoo from Zootopia 2.
BEST MOTION PICTURE, ANIMATED
Arco
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie
Elio
KPop Demon Hunters
Little Amelie or the Character of Rain
Zootopia 2
Kpop is going to sweep this, but my heart is still with Zootopia 2. Apparently Little Amelie is on VOD now so I will be catching up with that soon.
BEST MOTION PICTURE, FOREIGN LANGUAGE
It Was Just an Accident
No Other Choice
The Secret Agent
Sentimental Value
Sirat
The Voice of Hind Rajab
There's so much overlap with other categories here. Is this a first for the Globes? I feel like it has to be.
GOLDEN GLOBE FOR CINEMATIC & BOX OFFICE ACHIEVEMENT
Avatar: Fire and Ash
F1: The Movie
KPop Demon Hunters
Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning
Sinners
Weapons
Wicked: For Good
Zootopia 2
Again I ask, what the fuck even is this award? One of these films hasn't been released yet and another premiered on Netflix.
BEST TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
The Diplomat
The Pitt
Pluribus
Severance
Slow Horses
The White Lotus
No Andor breaks my heart. I was all about Severance during the Emmys, but now I've also watched The Pitt and it's hard to choose between them. Both were great shows. I'm shocked Stranger Things isn't here, but with their weird release schedule, I'm not sure if they even made the cut off for this year's Globes.
BEST TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Abbott Elementary
The Bear
Hacks
Nobody Wants This
Only Murders in the Building
The Studio
The Chair Company
Glad to see The Chair Company get some love. Globes love Freshman series but I wasn't sure if this one would stick.
BEST LIMITED SERIES, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
Adolescence
All Her Fault
The Beast in Me
Black Mirror
Dying for Sex
The Girlfriend
This is Adolescence's world, and everyone else is just living in it.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
Kathy Bates – Matlock
Britt Lower – Severance
Helen Mirren – Mob Land
Bella Ramsey – The Last of Us
Kerri Russell – The Diplomat
Rhea Seehorn – Pluribus
I haven't seen Pluribus, but I'm always happy to see Rhea Seehorn get some love after her amazing work in Better Call Saul was snubbed so many times.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Kristen Bell – Nobody Wants This
Ayo Edebiri – The Bear
Selena Gomez – Only Murders in the Building
Natasha Leone – Poker Face
Jenna Ortega – Wednesday
Jean Smart – Hacks
I still haven't started Poker Face yet, and it's kind of embarrassing at this point.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A LIMITED SERIES, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
Claire Danes – The Beast in Me
Rashida Jones – Black Mirror
Amanda Seyfried – Long Bright River
Sarah Snook – All Her Fault
Michelle Williams – Dying for Sex
Robin Wright – The Girlfiend
I just started watching Long Bright River and while Seyfried's character frustrates the shit out of me, she's very good. Jones was great in her Black Mirror episode too. Hopefully I can start All Her Fault before the Globes air.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL/COMEDY, OR DRAMA
Carrie Coon – The White Lotus
Erin Doherty – Adolescence
Hanna Einbinder – Hacks
Catherine O’Hara – The Studio
Parker Posey – The White Lotus
Amy Lou Wood – The White Lotus
I love every single performance in this category.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
Sterling K. Brown – Paradise
Diego Luna – Andor
Gary Oldman – Slow Horses
Mark Ruffalo – Task
Adam Scott – Severance
Noah Wyle – The Pitt
I'm glad Diego Luna got in here for Andor. That show deserved to be in way more categories.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Adam Brody – Nobody Wants This
Steve Martin – Only Murders in the Building
Glen Powell – Chad Powers
Seth Rogen – The Studio
Martin Short – Only Murders in the Building
Jeremy Allen White – The Bear
Seth Rogen is probably going to repeat his Emmy win.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A LIMITED SERIES, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
Jacob Elordi – The Narrow Road to the Deep North
Paul Giamatti – Black Mirror
Stephen Graham – Adolescence
Charlie Hunnam – Monster: The Ed Gein Story
Jude Law – Black Rabbit
Matthew Rhys – The Beast in Me
I had no idea Jacob Elordi was even in a mini series this year. I think this one is going to go to Graham, but Hunnam was very creepy in Monster, that could sway voters so it's not a complete Adolescence shut out.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL/COMEDY, OR DRAMA
Owen Cooper – Adolescence
Billy Crudup – The Morning Show
Walton Goggins – The White Lotus
Jason Isaac – The White Lotus
Tramell Tillman – Severance
Ashley Walters – Adolescence
I HATE having to choose between Cooper and Tillman. That's not fair.
BEST PERFORMANCE IN A STAND-UP COMEDY ON TELEVISION
Bill Mahr – Is Anyone Else Seeing This?
Brett Goldstein – The Second Best Night of Your Life
Kevin Hart – Acting My Age
Kumail Nanjiani – Night Thoughts
Ricky Gervais – Mortality
Sarah Silverman – PostMortem
This is the only "new" category from the Globes I actually think makes sense.
BEST PODCAST
Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard
Call Her Daddy
Good Hang with Amy Poehler
The Mel Robbins Podcast
SmartLess
Up First
This is so weird. This feels more like a Grammy category than a Globes one. The best podcasts do not have famous people attached to them.
