Rambling Film

Earlier this week I made a post where I ran through the letters of the alphabet with my favorite movie titles. There were a few people that suggested I turn it into a blogathon, and I've never done that before. So here goes nothing! Since this is my first attempt at a blogathon, it's all pretty simple, and it's hopefully a quick post that everyone can join in. Rules: 1) Going through the alphabet, list your favorite movie title beginning with each letter.  2) You don't have to necessarily  like the movie to use it's title.  3) Use the banner at the top of this post in yours. 4) Please have submissions in by Friday, May 30th*. Nun rage. Oh Philomena, I almost went to see you in theaters so many times, and I kept getting side tracked by other things. But you were worth the wait. 50 years ago, a woman named Philomena (Judi Dench) was forced to give her son up for adoption by some nuns who's roof she was living under. Actually, "forced" might not be the correct word. They flat out did it without her consent and didn't even tell her about it. Another women did just minutes before her son is driven away. In comes a journalist, Martin Sixsmith (Steve Coogan) who picks up her story and wants to help her find her son. Their journey is quite extraordinary. Philomena is adorable, naive, and I just wanted to give her a hug. Dench plays her so brilliantly. That was a very well deserved Oscar nomination she got. Coogan was great too as Martin. I shared a lot of his disbelief at what these nuns did. There's a brilliant scene where he tells one of them: "If Jesus were here, I think...

People are stupid. Diana Watts (Lindsay Burge) is a mousy, immature teacher that's currently having an affair with one of her students, Eric. (Will Brittain) We don't know how the affair started. We're teased that Diana has some family issues, but it's never elaborated beyond a short conversation with her brother. So if you were expecting to delve into Diana's psyche and figure out why she decided to do something completely illegal (Eric's age isn't specified, so he could be 18, I guess), you'll be disappointed. That's kind of what I was hoping for when I decided to watch this. I can never understand why any adult would want to date a teenager. Let alone one that is your HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT. It just kind of baffles me. Diana is way too obsessed with Eric, who is clearly just there for sex. It's painfully obvious, so why is she such a stage 5 clinger? Who knows. Keep in mind, I don't like all of the movies on this list. All hail Tommen of the House Baratheon, First of his Name . Long may he reign. We opened with Tommen being sworn in as kind, and give Margaery sweet smiles, until Cersei put an end to that business. *as always, click the gifs to be redirected to their makers* I have a bit of a complaint about Cersei in this episode, I thought she was coming off as almost too nice and too sympathetic. (For Cersei anyways) She talks to Margaery about Joffrey's death, and admits aloud that things he did shocked her. She then admits that Tommen can't be king alone and needs advice, and asks Margaery if she still wants to be queen. If my memory serves me right, Cersei never admitted such things aloud in the books, and if she did, it certainly wasn't to Margaery of all people. She hates her, and book Margaery spends a good amount of time snarking her in A Feast For Crows. Despite the death glare Cersei gives at the end, this segment just didn't work for me. Stop casting adults as teenagers. Just stop. I know, the older I get, the more cynical I get about adults playing teenagers. It's one of the oldest things in movies, but as it becomes more and more obvious to me, this film had absolutely no reason to go that route. But I digress, let me get to the plot first.. Scott (Justin Long) and Kristin (Jess Weixler) have just been married, and during their wedding, Scott's oldest friend, Lumpy (Tyler Labine) drinks way too much and dies. Kristin is upset because she's a total bitch that doesn't understand why her husband wants to ditch their honeymoon to BURY HIS DEAD FRIEND. Lumpy doesn't have a lot of other friends or family, so when they are going through his phone to notify his loved ones, they see 'Ramsey Anderson' (Addison Timlin) and go on a trip 5 hours away to find her. Well, turns out she's 15 and they are about to learn a few things about Lumpy that they didn't previously know. I prob...

You mean everyone doesn't have these thoughts? Poor Megan (Natasha Lyonne) she's so naive that she doesn't even realize she's a lesbian. Her friends and family have to stage an intervention for her. So they send her off to a rehabilitation camp to get straightened out. It's just as ridiculous as you can imagine. The girls are forced to wear hot pink, the boys blue, they're subjected to exercises to help them be hetero again. (Girls, cleaning and cooking. Boys, playing football) Megan is determined to work through this, until she meets and falls for Graham (Clea DuVall) This movie is hilarious. This is kind of how I imagine these awful camps really are. Counselor Mike (RuPaul) at one point threatens the boys with "watching sports all weekend" if they don't butch up. The film isn't just a bunch of one liners, it relays a very important message, which is loving yourself for who you are.  I think this is easily Lyonne's best work, plus s...
