2024 Emmy Predictions: Who Will Win, Who Should Win

It's Emmy prediction time! With the awards right around the corner (Sep 15th) It's time to guess who I think will win, and in some cases, who should win. Brace yourselves, it's going to be a lot of the same show over and over.

Outstanding Comedy Series
Abbott Elementary
The Bear
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Hacks
Only Murders in the Building
Palm Royale
Reservation Dogs
What We Do in the Shadows
Who will and should win: The Bear
Keep in mind, this is for season 2, so The Bear is the clear winner for me. If this were season 3, it would be a different story.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
Quinta Brunson, Abbott Elementary
Ayo Edebiri, The Bear
Selena Gomez, Only Murders in the Building
Maya Rudolph, Loot
Jean Smart, Hacks
Kristen Wiig, Palm Royale
Who will and should win: Ayo Edebiri
Ayo is finally in the right category and although Quinta Brunson is strong competition, she should take it here.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Matt Berry, What We Do in the Shadows
Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm
Martin Short, Only Murders in the Building
Steve Martin, Only Murders in the Building
Jeremy Allen White, The Bear
D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Reservation Dogs
Who will and should win: Jeremy Allen White
I love him in The Bear, though I would not be mad at all of Berry or Woon-A-Tai won here. Both of them are already winners just for breaking into this nomination field.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy
Lionel Boyce, The Bear
Paul W. Downs, Hacks
Ebon Moss-Bachrach, The Bear
Paul Rudd, Only Murders in the Building
Tyler James Williams, Abbott Elementary
Bowen Yang, Saturday Night Live
Who will and should win: Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
Yes, you are sensing a theme. I'm fully convinced voters only actually watched this and Shogun this year. But even if they hadn't, I'd still be guessing Ebon. His character had a very complex arc in season 2 and he was hilarious as always.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy
Carol Burnett, Palm Royale
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Abbott Elementary
Hannah Einbinder, Hacks
Janelle James, Abbott Elementary
Liza Colon-Zayas, The Bear
Who will win: Carol Burnett
Who should win: Janelle James or Sheryl Lee Ralph
I'm torn on this. My heart says Abbott but I think Janelle and Sheryl could split votes and people love Carol Burnett. But then there's Liza in The Bear, I can't see them doing a complete sweep. Decisions decisions.

Outstanding Drama Series
The Crown
Fallout
The Gilded Age
The Morning Show
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Shogun
Slow Horses
3 Body Problem
Who will and should win: Shogun
Shogun was exceptional and voters clearly went nuts for it. I see it prevailing here.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Donald Glover, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Walton Goggins, Fallout
Gary Oldman, Slow Horses
Hiroyuki Sanada, Shogun
Dominic West, The Crown
Who will and should win: Hiroyuki Sanada
As much as I love Walton Goggins in Fallout, this is definitely Sanada's to lose.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Jennifer Aniston, The Morning Show
Maya Erskine, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Carrie Coon, The Gilded Age
Anna Sawai, Shogun
Imelda Staunton, The Crown
Reese Witherspoon, The Morning Show
Who will and should win: Anna Sawai
Let it be known that I will lose my mind if she doesn't win here.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Billy Crudup, The Morning Show
Tadanobu Asano, Shogun
Mark Duplass, The Morning Show
Jon Hamm, The Morning Show
Takehiro Hira, Shogun
Jack Lowden, Slow Horses
Jonathan Pryce, The Crown
Who will and should win: Tadanobu Asano
There's a high chance that Crudup could win here again, but I'm sticking with Asano. He was excellent and I'm perplexed that The Morning Show keeps getting nominated for things.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
Christine Baranski, The Gilded Age
Nicole Beharie, The Morning Show
Elizabeth Debicki, The Crown
Greta Lee, The Morning Show
Lesley Manville, The Crown
Karen Pittman, The Morning Show
Holland Taylor, The Morning Show
Who will win: Elizabeth Debicki
Who should win:?
I didn't watch any of these shows this year, so I can't really say. Princess Diana's goodwill with the public is never ending, so that alone gives Debicki an edge.

Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series
Baby Reindeer
Fargo
Lessons in Chemistry
Ripley
True Detective: Night Country
Who will win: Baby Reindeer
Who should win: Fargo
What Gadd did with Baby Reindeer is astounding but I can't say I actually enjoyed watching it. I loved this season of Fargo, so if I were voting, that's who I'd pick.

Outstanding TV Movie
Mr Monk's Last Case
Quiz Lady
Red, White, and Royal Blue
Scoop
Unfrosted
Who will and should win: Red, White, and Royal Blue
Honestly It's the only one I've seen and it was fine, so why not?

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited, Anthology Series or TV Movie
Jodie Foster, True Detective: Night Country
Brie Larson, Lessons in Chemistry
Juno Temple, Fargo
Sofia Vergara, Griselda
Naomi Watts, Feud: Capote vs. the Swans
Who will win: Brie Larson
Who should win: Juno Temple
I haven't seen Lessons in Chemistry but the consensus seams to be that Larson was amazing, and she has a lot of buzz behind her. However, Temple was amazing and she absolutely should have this win.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited, Anthology Series or TV Movie
Matt Bomer, Fellow Travelers
Richard Gadd, Baby Reindeer
Jon Hamm, Fargo
Tom Hollander, Feud: Capote vs. the Swans
Andrew Scott, Ripley
Who will and should win: Richard Gadd
He really put himself out there and I see voters acknowledging that. There's a lot of tough competition in this category.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited, Anthology Series or TV Movie
Dakota Fanning, Ripley
Lily Gladstone, Under the Bridge
Jessica Gunning, Baby Reindeer
Aja Naomi King, Lessons in Chemistry
Diane Lane, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans
Nava Mau, Baby Reindeer
Kali Reis, True Detective: Night Country
Who will win: Jessica Gunning
Who should win: Her for Kali Reis
Gunning was so good in Baby Reindeer you'd think they actually found a real life psycho to star in it, but I loved Kali Reis in Night Country. It was nice to just SEE someone that looked like her carrying a series like that. I do think her being here is category fraud though. She was absolutely a lead.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited, Anthology Series, or TV Movie
Jonathan Bailey, Fellow Travelers
Robert Downey Jr., The Sympathizer
Tom Goodman-Hill, Baby Reindeer
John Hawkes, True Detective: Night Country
Lamorne Morris, Fargo
Lewis Pullman, Lessons in Chemistry
Treat Williams, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans
Who will win: Robert Downey Jr
Who should win: Lamorne Morris
I think Downey caps off his strong year with another win, but damn it, I loved Morris in Fargo.

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series
Jon Bernthal, The Bear
Matthew Broderick, Only Murders in the Building
Ryan Gosling, Saturday Night Live
Christopher Lloyd, Hacks
Bob Odenkirk, The Bear
Will Poulter, The Bear
These were actually handed out while I was writing this post. Bernthal was my pick originally, so that's one win for me!

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series
Nester Carbonell, Shogun
Paul Dano, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Tracy Letts, Winning Time
Jonathan Pryce, Slow Horces
John Tuturro, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Another win while I was writing this, and also who I would've picked based on the show he was nominated for. Though I wanted Paul Dano to win, because I always want Paul Dano to win.

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy
Olivia Colman, The Bear
Jamie Lee Curtis, The Bear
Kaitlin Olson, Hacks
Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Only Murders in the Building
Maya Rudolph, Saturday Night Live
Kristen Wiig, Saturday Night Live
I think everyone knew Jamie Lee was winning here. She's great in The Bear.

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama
Michaela Coel, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Claire Foy, The Crown
Marcia Gay Harden, The Morning Show
Sarah Paulson, Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Parker Posey, Mr. and Smith Smith
Michael Coel! Most of these women are previous winners so I was leaning towards Paulson, but I'm glad Coel picked it up. I need to watch this show.

  1. I like your picks oh and Jamie Lee Curtis did win an Emmy. That is awesome. Someone asked if her she's going to go for the EGOT and she said no because she can't sing. There's still the Tony. Who gives a shit about the Grammys?

    1. She can EOT, that will be enough! I'm sure she's got a Golden Globe somewhere that we can count as the G.

    2. Yeah but... who wants a Golden Globe these days? It's doesn't have any cred and it's run by an organization of sex traffickers and drug pushers.

  2. This is Birgit and I have not seen almost any of these. Does this make sense? Yeah, I haven’t seen any except Abbott Elementary which is good but I am not ga ga over it. Most are on stations I just don’t get and won’t spend more money. I love Ghosts which is not up at all…lol. I hope Eugene and Dan Levy are great hosts.

    1. I'm worried they'll be ~too much~ together, but hopefully I'm wrong. I never saw Schitts Creek so maybe it works.

  3. I haven't seen so many series so probably can't make predictions, ahah. I do hope SHOGUN will win a bunch as it swept the Creative Emmys. Hiroyuki and Anna were fantastic as the leads! Haven't seen The Bear S2 yet but LOVE Ayo Edebiri in S1 so I'm sure she deserves another win!
