Leave it to the BAFTAs to throw us some curveballs! Maybe not in the grand scheme of things in some cases, but it's different nonetheless. Below is a list of the nominees, with winners highlighted + my thoughts.

The Perfect Neighbor
I really liked Mr. Nobody Against Putin, it's my #2 after The Perfect Neighbor. I can see why this won here. The Perfect Neighbor IS a very American story. No one else has our gun control problems, but all other countries can understand propaganda.

This is probably the biggest surprise of the night. BAFTA have done something like this before, After Love is the most recent movie I can think of that upset a big Lead Actress race, but I love Robert in Ring of Power so I'm happy for him.

This is another surprise, and is probably not going to age well considering the man this movie is based off of yelled the N word with the hard R at Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo while they were on stage. He didn't yell slurs at any other presenters, just the normal non racist swear words.  And while I realize he has nothing to do with casting,  this is what a lot of people are going to remember now. I feel awful for Michael and Delroy.

Recently, I was talking to someone about who I thought were the best child actors when I was also a child.  Two that really stood out to me were Elijah Wood and Joseph Mazello, and one film those two were in together was called Radio Flyer.  Then I was reminded about the uniqueness of this film. Instead of reviewing the film, I wanted to have an open discussion about the ending. It deals with a tough issue; child abuse. What I’ve noticed is the way that the film ends is interpreted many different ways, and the filmmakers never came forward to say what was right and wrong. Earlier this week I made a post where I ran through the letters of the alphabet with my favorite movie titles. There were a few people that suggested I turn it into a blogathon, and I've never done that before. So here goes nothing! Review: The Ugly Stepsister

Official synopsis : Follows Elvira (Lea Myren) as she battles against her gorgeous stepsister, Agnes (Thea Sofie Loch Næss)  in a realm where beauty reigns supreme. She resorts to extreme measures to captivate the prince ( Isac Calmroth)  , amidst a ruthless competition for physical perfection. It's no coincidence that some of the best body horror films are ones that are about the ridiculous beauty standards placed upon women. "Beauty is pain" after all. The two go hand in hand.  Here, first time director Emilie Blichfeldt takes a classic fairy tale that we all know and dials it up to eleven. Prepare to cringe. Poor Elvira goes to serious lengths to be deemed "beautiful." Nevermind that Elvira IS already beautiful, but she has *gasp* braces and a bump in her nose.
