Thursday Movie Picks: Interviews

This week's theme from Wandering Through The Shelves is about interviews. I struggled thinking of films where interviews were central to the movie, aside from one of my picks, but the two other films have very memorable interviews in them.

1) Frost/Nixon

It took me forever to watch this from start to finish and when I did I couldn't believe I sat on this for so long. It was so well done. Obviously the interview between David Frost and Richard Nixon was the main selling point of this movie.

2) Step Brothers

This is one of my all time favorite comedies and Brendan and Dale being forced to go out for job interviews was a great scene. "Are you saying Pan?"

3) Atonement

Briony's interview at the end of this film is what reduced me to a sobbing mess. The truth hurts.

  1. Oh God, why didn't I think of Atonement? No movie has ever ruined me like that one, it still hurts.

    1. I agree. I re-watched it a month or so ago when I was on a mini McAvoy kick. I didn't see that coming at all.

  2. I have to see Frost/Nixon still but it’s on my list. I haven’t seen the second flick but it looks like a funny one. Aborement...ughhh hate this film except for the ending which was a revelation. It is way too dull despite the topic and where the characters went. It could have been so much better but it was dull as dirt

    1. Aborement lmao. I love it, but that's funny.

Step Brothers is hilarious, it's one of my favorite comedies.

  3. I'm not participating this week because the only film I could think of was your first and I've used it before but I LOVE Frost/Nixon!!! I've always been fascinated by Watergate (I lived through it) so movies looking at it hold a special allure but this one along with the impeccable All the President's Men looks at an aspect of the story about as well as can be done.

I love Atonement too and how wise the filmmakers were to get the titanic talent Vanessa Redgrave to punch the ending across. A textbook example of a performer coming in for one short scene and making an impression that stays with you long after the film is over.

I've yet to see Step Brothers.

    1. I really like All The President's Men too, I tend to like any film that deals with journalism, they're just so interesting to me.

  4. I'm hating myself so much for not thinking of Frost/Nixon!

I saw Step Brothers last night and I hated it, that interview was priceless though

I finally watched Atonement this morning after finishing the book and I really liked it as it's both a good movie and a good adaptation.

  6. I've only seen parts of Frost/Nixon as I'm still unsure about it though I want to try and see it in full despite my feelings towards Ron Howard as a filmmaker.

    The rest are inspired picks.

    1. I often forget Ron Howard directed that. Then again, he's not a director that really stands out to me other than name recognition.

  7. I too pick Frost/Nixon.
    See...I knew I was forgetting something...Atonement.

  8. I still haven't really finished watching Atonement.. it's probably the only film I got too depressed to even watch through. I paused right before I realised they didn't survive....
