Review: Becoming

Yes we can!

This documentary follows former First Lady Michelle Obama as she goes on her book tour for her best selling novel, also called Becoming

I bought Michelle Obama's novel as soon as it came out and read it quickly. I loved getting a deeper look at her life and her history. The Obama's will always be special to me. The 2008 election was the first one I was eligible to vote in, and of course I voted for Barack Obama. But it's not all sunshine and rainbows for them. They still face massive amounts of hate and racism, more than my privileged self can ever understand. It's not easy but Michelle continues to radiate grace throughout.

This doc works as a great companion piece to her novel. On its own, it might seem short on information but not to the point where it isn't enjoyable if you haven't read her words. (Though really, you should.) It still gives us a look into Michelle the person, still out there trying to do the very best.

In a way it also depressed me slightly because it was showing footage of the 2008 election and man do I miss actually being excited about who the president is, and not having the human equivalent of a dumpster fire in office.

  1. I would love to see Michelle Obama be the one to run for President as she is a woman of class and oh, I so miss her. Plus, we know she doesn't fuck around and if someone or something pisses her off. She'll let you know. I do miss seeing her as she is a woman of class. I know the Bushes aren't well-liked but at least they had some decency and Laura Bush always comes across as a classy lady. Unlike those... dirty, trampy, bottom-feeding, trash-bag hoes at the White House.

I miss the Obamas in office so much, I cannot wait until 45's "reign" is over.

  3. I love Michelle Obama and wish she was interested in political life though I can't blame her for not being especially now with the the mess that irresponsible soulless toad has made of our country.

I haven't had the chance to read her book, it's on my list but most of my reading is on hold until libraries reopen. I can't stand reading on Kindle, I want to hold a book in my hands, feel its weight, be able to stick a bookmark in it and pick it back up at my pleasure. I'm sure there's a way to do that with Kindle but it's not the same.

    1. SAME I don't read on tablets unless I'm traveling, then it's practical. I like to have an actual book as well. I hope you enjoy her book, it's wonderful.

I wish she was interested in political too but like you, I don't blame her at all. People said horrible things about her and she deserved none of that.
