Emmy Predictions: Who Will Win, Who Should Win.

My predictions for the major categories. I'll promise not to complain too much about the ridiculous omission of Rescue Me.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Bryan Cranston - Breaking Bad
Michael C. Hall - Dexter
Kyle Chandler - Friday Night Lights
Hugh Laurie - House
Matthew Fox - Lost
Jon Hamm - Mad Men

Who will win: Bryan Cranston, I feel this is the year for "threepeats". Cranston's work in Breaking Bad is so amazing, he makes everyone else look boring in comparison. Michael C. Hall puts up a a good fight, he could pull up upset. Same goes for Jon Hamm.

Who should win: Bryan Cranston

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie:
Ian McKellen - The Prisoner
Jeff Bridges - A Dog Year
Dennis Quaid - The Special Relationship
Michael Sheen - The Special Relationship
Al Pacino - You Don't Know Jack

Who will win: Jeff Bridges, he's still riding high from his Oscar win for Crazy Heart.

Who should win: Bridges or McKellen. They are both fine actors.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series:
Alec Baldwin - 30 Rock
Larry David - Curb Your Enthusiasm
Matthew Morisson - Glee
Tony Shalhoub - Monk
Jim Parsons - The Big Bang Theory
Steve Carrell - The Office

Who will win: Alec Baldwin. He's won the last 2 times, although voters could sway towards Carrell since his run at The Office is coming to an end. I hope to God they don't give it to Tony Shalhoub..Monk is atrocious.

Who should win: Jim Parsons. He's comic gold on The Big Bang Theory. He deserves this award the most.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series:
Glenn Close - Damages
Connie Britton - Friday Night Lights
Mariska Hargitay - Law and Order: SVU
January Jones - Mad Men
Kyra Sedgwick - The Closer
Julianna Margulies - The Good Wife

Who will win: January Jones. Mad Men is getting more popular every day, and she commands every scene she is in.

Who should win: January Jones.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie:
Judi Dench - Return to Cranford
Maggie Smith - Capturing Mary
Joan Allen - Georgia O'Keefe
Claire Danes - Temple Grandin
Hope Davis - The Special Relationship

Who will win: Hope Davis, there seems to be a lot of The Special Relationship love.

Who should win: Maggie Smith, actually I can't really say much for this category, I haven't seen any of them. That's Harry Potter bias talking.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:
Tina Fey - 30 Rock
Lea Michele - Glee
Edie Falco - Nurse Jackie
Amy Poehlar - Parks and Recreation
Julia Louise-Dreyfus - The New Advertures of Old Christine
Toni Collette - The United States of Tara

Who will win: Tina Fey. Collette had a surprise win last year (and deservingly so) but I think Fey will be back on top, she's had a strong year.

Who should win: Honestly, I'd be fine with anyone winning this category except Lea Michele. The fact that she got nominated over Mary Louise Parker for Weeds is insulting.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama:
Aaron Paul - Breaking Bad
Martin Short - Damages
Michael Emerson - Lost
Terry O'Quinn - Lost
John Slattery - Mad Men
Andrew Braugher - Men of a Certain Age

Who will win: Someone from Lost. The Emmys are sure to give this show some love for it's final season, and this is the category it has the best chance of winning.

Who should win: Aaron Paul. Breaking Bad, people! It's a good show.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy:
Chris Colfer - Glee
Neil Patrick Harris - How I Met Your Mother
Ty Burrell - Modern Family
Jesse Tyler Ferguson - Modern Family
Eric Stonestreet - Modern Family
Jon Cryer - Two and a Half Men

Who will win: Well, I'd say Modern Family..just can't tell you which one. Although Cryer was a surprise last year, can he do it again?

Who should win: Neil Patrick Harris. This guy is so talented. He's long overdue for some Emmy love.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie:
Jonathon Price - Return to Cranford
Michael Gambon - Emma
Patrick Stewart - Hamlet
David Strathairn - Temple Grandin
John Goodman - You Don't Know Jack

Who will win: Again, it's hard for me to predict this one. I'm going to go with Stewart. He got nominated for an Emmy for playing himself.

Who should win: All of these guys are great actors, I'm partial to Strathairn, he always gets praise but never wins.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie:
Kathy Bates - Alice
Catherine O'Hara - Temple Grandin
Julia Ormond - Temple Grandin
Susan Surandon - You Don't Know Jack
Brenda Vaccaro - You Don't Know Jack

Who will win: Susan Surandon. Just a guess.

Who should win: ditto.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series:
Sharon Glass: Burn Notice
Rose Byrne: Damages
Christina Hendricks: Mad Men
Elisabeth Moss: Mad Men
Christine Baranski - The Good Wife
Archie Panjabi - The Good Wife

Who will win: Henricks or Moss, both have taken a lot of criticism this year for their "fuller figures" (they look fine). That's a sympathy vote, not to mention Mad Men is a good show and they are both good in it.

Who should win: Someone from Mad Men.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series:
Jane Krakowski - 30 Rock
Jane Lynch - Glee
Julie Bowen - Modern Family
Sofia Vergara - Modern Family
Kristen Wiig - Saturday Night Live
Holland Taylor - Two and a Half Men

Who will win: Jane Lynch, everyone may be on the Glee bandwagon, but she's definitely the one that deserves the praise the most. She's hilarious, although it's a shame she left the cast of Party Down to be in Glee

Who should win: Lynch deserves it for her comedic chops. So does Wiig, but SNL was only good twice this year.

Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series:
Real Time with Bill Maher
The Colbert Report
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Saturday Night Live
The Late Show with Conan O'Brien

Who will win: Conan, he'll give NBC once last slap in the face.

Who should win: The Daily Show, while I love Conan and Colbert, Stewart is the king.

Outstanding Mini Series:
The Pacific
Return to Cranfod

Who will win: The Pacific

Who should win: The Pacific

Outstanding Animated Series:
South Park
The Ricky Gervais Show
Alien Earths
The Simpson
Prep and Landing

Who will win: South Park. In my opinion, it's the funniest cartoon of all time. And clever as hell to top it off.

Who should win: South Park.

Outstanding Comedy Series:
Glee
30 Rock
Modern Family
Nurse Jackie
The Office
Curb Your Enthusiasm

Who will win: Modern Family. It's a new, popular show and it got a ton of nominations. It's chances of being rewarded Comedy's biggest prize are very good.

Who should win: 30 Rock. The writing is great, the cast is funny and it always has the best guest stars.

Outstanding Drama Series:
Breaking Bad
Mad Men
True Blood
Dexter
Lost
The Good Wife

Who will win: This is the toughest category of them all. Mad Men has won the past 2 years. Lost could win to give it one final send off, and Breaking Bad is a strong contender as well.

Who should win: True Blood. I know, it's probably wishful thinking, but this show is like crack. It's ridiculously addicting. Breaking Bad would be worthy too.

Comments

  1. I think Actress in a Miniseries/Movie will go to Claire Danes. You HAVE to see Temple Grandin. She was phenomenal. Even just watch the trailer on youtube and you'll understand why she'll win. No one else deserves it more.

  2. i took you seriously until you said True Blood should win for best Drama... are you serious? you lost all respect.. a very entertaining show but not worthy of that emmy with such shows as LOST, Breaking Bad, Mad Men and Dexter

  3. ^^^ In terms of quality, yes shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men are better. Mad Men is going to win, I just want something surprising. True Blood is addicting as hell.

  4. Thespians are voting and internet means submissions are used as well as all episodes. 'Glee' is resonating for a reason: dark comedy combined with real-life characters and serious issues that are common to almost all people these days. Inconsistent perhaps, but the ensemble is loved and found valued by the majority, and that is pretty ground-breaking for the content of the show.
