Review: A Quiet Place Part II

Picking up immediately where we left the Abbott family in the last film, Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and her children Regan,(Millicent Simmonds) Marcus (Noah Jupe) and her newborn son are on the move after their home is damaged. They run into an old family friend Emmett (Cillian Murphy) and he's reluctant to help them.

It's hard to do a sequel to a surprise hit like the first one does, but writer/director John Krasinski once again crafts an interesting and high stakes story. It may not feel as fresh as the first go around, there's a lot of very tired post apocalyptic tropes and the direction can at times feel very repetitive, but I'm so invested in the Abbott family that I needed to see where they go next.

This film really belongs to Simmonds. While she was the focal point of the first film she takes on an even bigger part of the second. Determined to help not just her family, but everyone with her new found knowledge on how to kill the creatures. She takes off on her own adventure. Blunt and Jupe don't have as much to do, Jupe in a way is understandable. They had to compensate somehow that children grow and he's probably 5 inches taller than he was the last time we saw him, but this kid is great at looking terrified.

Cillian Murphy is a great addition and he and Simmonds make a great pair to watch. There's constant tension in their journey, and a few jump scares are thrown in. The film also goes full Jeepers Creepers 2 with the creatures being shown a lot. There's no longer any need for secrecy.

I mentioned tropes, and the one that annoyed me the most was the attempted rape that is heavily implied. It's gross and I'm over it. The would be attackers die terribly, but it was still something that bothered me.

If you enjoyed the first film, you definitely should see this one too.

Grade: B

Memorable Quote: "She figured it out." - Emmett (Cillian Myrphy)

  1. I really liked this one too. It's interesting about the rape thing. I was thinking they were more like cannibals than a rape thing. I might have missed that.

    1. Oh really? That I didn't consider at all. To me it was specifically coded as an attempted sexual assault because of the way that guy ripped her jacket off and was looking at her. I hated it.

  2. I still haven't seen the first one but I do want to as I will hopefully have a lot more access to various streaming services next week.

Blossom is fucking hosting Jeopardy? UGH!!!!! I hate that bitch.

    1. I cannot stand her either. She's so problematic and I don't understand why she's popular.

  3. I'm mounting the courage to watch this! I'm not a big horror fan as I just don't have the nerves for it, but I actually loved the first one so I'm sure I'll love the sequel, esp. with Cillian Murphy as part of the cast!!

    1. I think you'll be fine, there's a few jump scares and it's worth the watch.

  4. It felt so strange to finally watch this! It definitely had too many tropes but like you said, I'm way too invested in this family now for it to bother me!
