Series Review: The White Lotus Season 3

Mike White's "Eat The Rich" anthology series wrapped up its Thailand adventure this past Sunday, and boy do I have thoughts. Unfortunately I have to get into spoiler territory, though I will try to keep it as vague as possible, but the season finale really threw a curveball at me.

I'm going to break down my critiques per character "groups"

Three Lady Friends
Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, and Michelle Monaghan fully stressed me out with their cattiness at the beginning, but in the best way. I actually liked their story from start to finish. My only complaint was the teased connection with Bibb with Parker Posey's character that went absolutely nowhere.

The Ratliff's
Despite Jason Isaac STRUGGLING with his southern U.S accent throughout, I was actually the most invested in this weirdo family's problems at first, but it ended up being very anticlimactic. They tease something pretty sinister in the last episode, and I think it would've made for a better ending had they actually gone through with it. It ended up being all bark and no bite.

Lisa from Black Pink Needs Screen Time
No shade, I love Black Pink, but Mook and Gaitook's story was....fine. Just fine.

Belinda & Greg
Returning from season 1, Natasha Rothwell's Belinda is back at an employee exchange program with The White Lotus. It's all going well until she runs into Greg, the only character to appear in all three seasons. To say I'm disappointed with what Belinda does in the final episode is an understatement. I was rooting for her so badly, and Mike White ruined it. This is where I remind myself that the entire point of this show is "rich people suck" but come on, White! You couldn't give me this ONE thing?!

Chelsea and Frank
Aimee Lou Wood's Chelsea was the easy fan favorite this season, and she her ending sucks all because of her man. Thanks, I hate it.

Bonus: Sam Rockwell's character, who ultimately does jack shit DOES give a really great monologue this season that you've probably already heard about online. It's worth finding the clip, but don't expect much to come out of his character.

Overall, while I was interested week to week with this series, the finale let me down in a pretty big way and I no longer care if they even decide to revisit this for a 4th season.

Comments

  1. My mom has been watching the first 2 seasons of the series because of her favorite cousin has been talking about it and loves the show except for the sex. My mother is not into sexual content at all as she didn't watch the third season. I'm trying to find the time to watch the series as a whole.

    1. I can only think of 2 sex scenes in the 3rd season but one of them is insanely uncomfortable so I hope she's mentally prepared for "ick" lol
