My Top 10 Films of 2015 - and the Bottom 5

I think this might be the earliest I've gotten my Top 10 list out. There's a few "big" films I haven't seen yet. Carol, Straight Outta Compton, Bridge of Spies, Tangerine and essentially any foreign film released this year. Here are my top 10 favorite films for 2015, in no particular order.

Just Missed

*Yes, I know, people hated Age of Ultron. Even with two major complaints, I still enjoy watching it. Behold the field in which I grow my fucks. Lay thine eyes upon it, and thou shalt see that it is barren*

Honorable Mention:  End of the Tour, Steve Jobs, The Walk, Black Mass, Ant-Man, Truth, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Mad Max: Fury Road, 99 Homes, Love & Mercy, Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl, Phoenix.

Bottom 5
1) Stockholm, Pennsylvania - For letting a fascinating premise implode in the 2nd act, and wasting the talent of the amazing Saoirse Ronan.
2) The Salvation - Too rapey and too boring.
3) Jurassic World - They failed to master "subtle homage" and cast the most annoying child actor on Earth.
4) The Falling - So messy and stupid.
5) Far From the Madding Crowd - I wanted to slap this woman.

Most Disappointing Films (That Didn't Land in The Bottom 5)
1) A Most Violent Year
2) Inside Out
3) Freeheld
4) Diary of a Teenage Girl
5) The Hateful Eight

  1. I've still got so much to see before I do this for real. The one I put out at the end of 2015 will be vastly different from the one I eventually do a few months down the road. Of the ones I've seen from your list I really enjoyed them. On your Bottom 5, I've only seen Jurassic World. I might move it from that spot even though it is just an awful movie. I'm leaning toward so bad it's awesome, though.

    1. I wish it was in "so bad it's awesome" territory for me, but it can't be with those awful children and Bryce Dallas Howard's ridiculous character.

  2. Oh man, I've only actually seen about half of your Top 10 but they're all ones I really can't wait to see!
I've also thankfully managed to escape most of your Bottom 5, ha!

  3. This is a really great list. Love that Sicario, The Revenant, Star Wars and The Martian all made the list

  4. I still need to see The Room, I am planning to see it sometime this week. Also need to see Spotlight which I am really, really looking forward to.

The Reverent. I have to say I was massively disappointed and only consider diCaprio's performance to a great physical performance rather than one that's emotionally powerful.

Agree with the others (that I've seen), the Martian and Ex Machina will be in my list

    1. That sucks you didn't enjoy The Revenant more. I hope you like Room and Spotlight when you get the chance to see them.

    2. Just got back from seeing Room. I am utterly blown away. What a powerful film. Stunning.

  5. I have not seen most of these but this will be remedied throughout the year. I have seen Ultron-It's OK but the beginning-ughh-I thought it was a comic book(pardon the obvious) look-it looked really CGI. Jurassic World -oh-a bunch of dinosaurs get loose and start eating people....didn't see that coming.

    1. I thought the CGI in Ultron was really well done. Yeah, Jurassic World was so repetitive of the original. What a let down.

  6. Great list all the way through!

  7. We have a lot of similarities on our list. Ugh Jurassic World. So disappointing. It's on my most disappointing list too.

I just saw The Salvation last night. It was too rapey wasn't it. Women didn't really have a role in the film except to get raped and beaten. I didn't understand that. I was looking forward to watching Mads though and he didn't disappoint. It just wasn't a very good western. It was no Bone Tomahawk.

    1. No, not at all. It actually just confirmed why I don't like Westerns to begin with. Bone Tomahawk was a gem.

  8. Ha ha! I love your assessment of Jurassic World!

  9. Awesome list! I'm a big fan of most of these, except for Ultron. :P I'm holding off on my list until probably next month, but I should see The Stanford Prison Experiment first.

  10. I know I'm late commenting but just wanted to say. Great list. Loved that you have It Follows, Ex Machina and Room on here. Surprised that Inside Out made your most disappointed section.

    1. It's never to late to comment! Yeah, Inside Out was a really stressful theater experience for me. My kid kept telling me how sad the movie was.
