Thursday Movie Picks: Movies You're Looking Forward to in 2018
This week Wanderer is asking us to do something a little different. Today we're talking about films we're excited for next year. I'm sticking with bigger budget ones here since I normally find all my indies to look forward to in January when Sundance hits. Here's what I'm currently hyping over:
1) Avengers: Infinity War
You all know how much I love Marvel and the Avengers. This movie is going to be massive and I can't wait.
2) Black Panther
He was a smash hit in Civil War and I'm looking forward to his solo movie. The cast is magnificent.
3) A Wrinkle in Time
I've never read the novel, but I love Ava Duvernay and I think she's going to do a wonderful job with this film. Maybe I'll pick up the book before it hits theaters.
I have high hopes for the two Marvel flicks. I haven't heard of the other but I like Duvernay and the cast is great.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to keep my expectations in check for Infinity War but I'm so excited.
DeleteI have major Superhero burnout but I'll wait until these two come out to decide if they are something I'll make the effort to see.
ReplyDeleteI never read A Wrinkle in Time either but that cast list is very alluring so I think that one will be on my list.
I'm terribly behind on knowing what's coming but I did manage three with one that is has shown on the festival circuit but hasn't opened wide yet.
Oceans 8-Femimine reworking of the fun Brad Pitt/George Clooney heist flick Oceans 11 (though why they couldn’t find 3 more famous women to make up the original number is troubling) itself a reworking of the Rat Pack original. As long as it keeps that sense of humor this should be a jolly time at the movies with hopefully a smooth tie-in of Matt Damon’s character from the other film.
Mary Poppins Returns-The magical nanny returns to help the children of the now grown children she cared for in the original classic. Apparently great care has been taken to protect the memory of the first with an amazing cast, including in some capacity Dick Van Dyke & Angela Lansbury (yeah). It will be tough to capture the special whimsy of the first but it will be interesting to see the attempt.
Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story-In festival showing this documentary about the legendary movie star beauty who was sharp as a whip and an avid inventor (responsible for much of the basis of what is modern day internet technology) but whom was not taken seriously because of that same ravishing exterior has been acclaimed. She considered her beauty a cage from which she couldn’t escape and when faced with narrow minded comments about the improbability that a woman who looked as she did could also have a strong mind she replied “If I am a ‘new Hedy’ as some say, it is because they are seeing me as I really am, not looking at the outside of me.” Scheduled for a theatrical release early in 2018 this sounds fascinating.
I never cared for the Ocean films to begin with so Ocean's 8 doesn't have me as excited as others. I'm sure the Marry Poppins reboot will be nice though.
DeleteI am looking forward to all of these as well. However, I am looking forward to Infinity War so much! After building for 10 years, I hope it can live up to the expectations.
ReplyDeleteInfinity War looks SO overstuffed. I just hope they give Thanos more of a personality than they have previously.
ReplyDeleteI am sick to death of superhero movies (they just all feel the same to me now) but I can't deny that Black Panther looks all kinds of awesome.
I was never as much of a Wrinkle in Time fan as other kids, but this looks REALLY good, and at the very least it will be an improvement over the crappy TV movie version lol.
I never saw the TV version I'm going in pretty blind. IW does have a huge probability of being overstuffed so I hope they handle it well.
DeleteThese are three films I'm interested in seeing. Notably Black Panther as I think it looks really fucking cool. Of course, I'll see The Avengers: Infinity War. A Wrinkle in Time is a possibility but I'm sure Ava Duvernay can do something to make it more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad we only have to wait two more months for Black Panther too!
DeleteYes, yes, and yes. Love these choices.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteA Wrinkle in Time looks pretty badass. I'm not much of a superhero movie guy and I literally am years behind on the MCU storylines. Infinity War does look great though. Sort of makes me want to get caught up.
ReplyDeleteYes you should definitely get caught up!
DeleteI'm really excited for Avengers: Infinity War, You Were Never Really Here, & Isle of Dogs.
ReplyDeleteI would've used You Were Never Really Here but when I wrote this post months ago I still thought it was getting a December 2017 release. lol
DeleteThese all sound quite good and I hope Oceans Eight will be good.
ReplyDeleteI hope so!
DeleteI look forward to two of the first picks but I'm not sure about the third. I think it might not work out as well as it should. And I don't even know the source material!
ReplyDeleteI don't know the source material either, I'm just trusting. lol
DeleteI have not read A Wrinkle in Time, nor have I seen any of the trailer of the upcoming movie. I've only seen the movie stills and can't say I like the makeup and costuming. Big name cast can make one think this could be good and cannot fail but but remember The Giver which was also based on a popular children's novel.
ReplyDeleteI remember The Giver, hopefully this one fairs better.
DeleteGreat picks! I'm really looking forward to all of these too. Avengers and Black Panther are going to be so exciting to see - hopefully good too! :)
ReplyDeleteI hope so too!
