2015 Golden Globe Winners

If my office had a Golden Globe poo, I would not be winning it. It was a very surprising night. Amy and Tina gave one of the best openings I've ever seen, then they practically disappeared for the rest of the show, only to resurface for lame North Korea jokes. Oh well, they had a great one, and their opening made up for it. The winners are in blue, my thoughts follow in green.

Best Performance By an Actress in a Television Series – Drama
Claire Danes - Homeland
Viola Davis - How to Get Away With Murder
Julianna Margulies -The Good Wife
Ruth Wilson -The Affair
Robin Wright - House of Cards

Best Original Song – Motion Picture
"Big Eyes" - Big Eyes
“Glory” - Selma
“Mercy Is” - Noah
“Opportunity” - Annie
“Yellow Flicker Beat” - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1

Best Original Score
Alexandre Desplat - The Imitation Game
Jóhann Jóhannsson - The Theory of Everything
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - Gone Girl
Antonio Sanchez - Birdman
Hans Zimmer - Interstellar
This surprised me. I thought Theory's score was beautiful, but I liked Birdman's and Gone Girl's better.

Best Performance By an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television
Uzo Aduba - Orange Is the New Black
Kathy Bates - American Horror Story: Freak Show
Joanne Froggatt - Downton Abbey
Allison Janney - Mom
Michelle Monaghan - True Detective
Come on now, who actually saw this coming?

Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series – Comedy
Lena Dunham - Girls
Edie Falco - Nurse Jackie
Julia Louis-Dreyfus - Veep
Gina Rodriguez - Jane the Virgin
Taylor Schilling - Orange Is the New Black
I actually got this right! The Globes love new shows. By the way, I looked up this show, which is apparently on the CW and it is about a girl that is accidentally artificially inseminated.  And though several tried to explain this to me on Twitter I still do not see how you accidentally do something like that. What the actual fuck?

Best Screenplay
Wes Anderson - The Grand Budapest Hotel
Gillian Flynn - Gone Girl
Alejandro González Iñárritu, Nicolás Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Armando Bo - Birdman
Richard Linklater - Boyhood
Graham Moore - The Imitation Game
This pleases me. I thought Boyhood would steal this.

Best Performance By an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries, or Motion Picture Made for Television
Matt Bomer - The Normal Heart
Alan Cumming - The Good Wife
Colin Hanks - Fargo
Bill Murray - Olive Kitteridge
Jon Voight - Ray Donovan
I wanted Hanks, but can't go wrong with Bomer. He was wonderful.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy
Louis C.K. - Louie
Don Cheadle - House of Cards
Ricky Gervais - Derek
William H. Macy - Shameless
Jeffrey Tambor - Transparent

Best Foreign Language Film
Force Majeure
Get
Ida
Leviathan
Tangerine

Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Fargo
The Missing
The Normal Heart
Olive Kitteridge
True Detective
I love Fargo, but I'm shocked True Detective didn't take this.

Best Television Series – Comedy
Girls
Jane the Virgin
Orange Is the New Black
Silicon Valley
Transparent
I haven't heard of this show either. And now I know why, because it's on Amazon Prime.

Best Animated Feature Film
Big Hero 6
The Book of Life
The Boxtrolls
How to Train Your Dragon 2
The Lego Movie
YYYAAAAASSSSSSS BITCH!!!!!!!!

Best Performance By an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Martin Freeman - Fargo
Woody Harrelson - True Detective
Matthew McConaughey - True Detective
Mark Ruffalo - The Normal Heart
Billy Bob Thornton - Fargo
Everyone in this category deserves a win, but I thought McConaughey had it. Martin Freeman no showed. I guess Cumberbatch forgot to pack him in his bag.

Best Performance By an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
Jennifer Aniston - Cake
Felicity Jones - The Theory of Everything
Julianne Moore - Still Alice
Rosamund Pike - Gone Girl
Reese Witherspoon - Wild
Boo. I wanted Rosamund.

Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical
Birdman
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Into the Woods
Pride
St. Vincent
Now THIS is bullshit. Budapest wasn't bad. I liked it, it was just all over the place, but this over Birdman? No. I'm sorry, just no.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama
Clive Owen - The Knick
Liev Schreiber - Ray Donovan
Kevin Spacey - House of Cards
James Spader - The Blacklist
Dominic West - The Affair

Best Television Series – Drama
The Affair

House of Cards
Is Game of Thrones ever going to win this?

Best Performance By an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Robert Duvall - The Judge
Ethan Hawke - Boyhood
Edward Norton - Birdman
Mark Ruffalo - Foxcatcher
J.K. Simmons - Whiplash
Just Keep Simmons!

Best Performance By an Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical
Ralph Fiennes - The Grand Budapest Hotel
Michael Keaton - Birdman
Bill Murray - St. Vincent
Joaquin Phoenix - Inherent Vice
Christoph Waltz - Big Eyes

Best Performance by an Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television
Maggie Gyllenhaal - The Honorable Woman
Jessica Lange - American Horror Story: Freak Show
Frances McDormand - Olive Kitteridge
Frances O’Connor - The Missing
Allison Tolman - Fargo
I wanted Tolman, but I love me some Maggie G, so I won't bitch.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Patricia Arquette - Boyhood
Jessica Chastain - A Most Violent Year
Keira Knightley - The Imitation Game
Emma Stone - Birdman
Meryl Streep - Into the Woods
I really hope this isn't how the Oscars go. Arquette's performance in Boyhood might be the best, but it doesn't even come close to Stone's in Birdman. (And probably the other nominee's either.)

Best Director
Wes Anderson - The Grand Budapest Hotel
Ava DuVernay - Selma
David Fincher - Gone Girl
Alejandro González Iñárritu - Birdman
Richard Linklater - Boyhood
This is the only award Boyhood semi deserves in my opinion, and it's only for dedication. Not for the finished product.

Best Performance By an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical
Amy Adams -Big Eyes
Emily Blunt - Into the Woods
Helen Mirren - The Hundred-Foot Journey
Julianne Moore - Still Alice
Quvenzhané Wallis - Annie
Two in a row! And as for the Oscar, Bye Felicia Jennifer Aniston, I think Adams just got your spot.

Best Performance By an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
Steve Carell - Foxcatcher
Benedict Cumberbatch - The Imitation Game
Jake Gyllenhaal - Nightcrawler
David Oyelowo - Selma
Eddie Redmayne - The Theory of Everything
I knew Gyllenhaal didn't have a chance, but I wanted it so badly. That being said, I thought Oyelowo was going to win, but Redmayne was fabulous in Theory, so I think it's deserved.

Best Motion Picture – Drama
Boyhood
Foxcatcher
The Imitation Game
Selma
The Theory of Everything
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  1. Admittedly I haven't seen Birdman yet (comes out here next week!) but I'm not even mad that Grand Budapest pipped it. Credit where credit is due, how many other films come out 9 months before award season and still have the momentum to win the big awards?

That being said, I can't wait to see Birdman/Theory of Everything. Really looked forward to seeing Keaton and Redmayne's performances in full after today :)

    1. When you put it that way, it is nice, but man Birdman was so much better! lol

  2. The Grand Budapest Hotel over Birdman is really surprising and WTF indeed and I'm sorry for Gyllenhaal, too, he really was stellar. Weirdest thing is True Detective not winning - what???

    Thanks for this post, anyway!

  3. I'm just happy Maggie won though I too wanted Jake to win. It would've been a Gyllenhaal night. I'm shocked The Grand Budapest Hotel won though I did like Wes Anderson's speech and I wanted Birdman to win. I'm happy Michael Keaton, Patricia Arquette, and Ethan Hawke won. I wanted Rosamund to win though she gets my pick for the best dress of the night. Not that aging fish J-Lo.

    1. Was Hawke a producer on Boyhood or something? I liked Lopez's dress but not on her. Same with Kate Hudson, lovely dress, not so lovely person.

  4. I'm so happy for the Fargo wins, but I'm gutted for Colin Hanks! He really deserved it.

    1. While I likes both, I think True Detective was far superior.

  6. Yeah, I kind of saw most of these coming...except Animated Film and Foreign Film. One of those I'm happy about...the other...well :-D

  7. "Martin Freeman no showed. I guess Cumberbatch forgot to pack him in his bag. " oh hahaha, golden!:)

I'm about to see the ceremony but other than Wilson, Birdman for script, Keaton and Bomer this is some shit

  8. Lana Del Rey losing to Selma was had me so frustrated. It's a pretty song, but it's just so basic in comparison to similar songs. I really should have seen it coming. I'm going to go as far as to say NOTHING could beat Selma this year, just based on the type of film it is. US current events will tell you that much. I mean the song brought up Ferguson for shits sake...

Patricia Arquette was good in Boyhood, but her character was so fucking flat, I think.

    1. Yeah, she was by far the best actor in Boyhood, but still nothing spectacular. Selma is pretty unbeatable in the song category here. I just hope it has some better competition like Lost Stars from Begin Again and Everything is Awesome from the Lego movie at the Oscars.

    2. Yeah, I agree. The music category at the GG was pretty bland for the most part.

  9. I was shocked about true detective too, but i looooove fargo. lol that grand budapest win is HILARIOUS. i've seen all the supporting actress nominees this year and i can honestly say that arquette should win BY A LANDSLIDE (and you already know how much i love boyhood). birdman and michael keaton ftw.

    1. I know you do :P I've only seen Imitation Game and Birdman and I think Stone and Knightley were far better than her. Carrie Coon in Gone Girl too, but she's dead in the Oscar race now. Normally, I would laugh at Budapest winning, but I want Birdman to win Best Picture at the Oscars. lol

  10. Ooh I love explaining Jane the Virgin, it's such a cute show - it needs a wider audience! Basically, the doctor thought Jane was another patient, so she inseminated her by mistaking her identity. It took like 5 seconds. Of course it's preposterous, but it's a telenovela thing - anything that can happen will happen, and what can't happen will happen, too!

I agree about the Theory of Everything score, Birdman and Gone Girl would be more deserving. I still have hope for a Pike win at the oscars! But maybe that's the Leo in me.

The best actor drama category is impossible, everyone in it deserved a win - which means the oscars will be even worse!

    1. I'm holding out hope for Pike as well! I would think more people saw Gone Girl over Still Alice anyways.

Yeah, I read that about Jane the Virgin. How she got inseminated during a pap, which is still fucking ridiculous but whatever. I'm done trying to wrap my head around that show. lol I was shocked to learn it was on the CW.

  11. I can't believe Birdman lost Best Picture, but at least Keaton and the screenplay won. Small victories. :)
