Thursday Movie Picks - TV Edition: Globetrotting

This week's TV theme from Wandering Through The Shelves is about the shows that jump all over the world. The rule is that you must pick scripted TV, so no travel shows, reality competitions, etc. That makes it pretty tough, but here's what I came up with.

1) The Falcon and the Winter Soldier -
We watched Bucky and Sam go from the U.S, to Europe, to Marvel's fictional crime city Madripoor.

2) Heroes -
This took place in multiple locations and one of the heroes could teleport, so I'm counting it here. This show's drop in quality is still unmatched. I can't think of another show where I was so into the first season, then didn't even finish the second.

3) Outlander -
I don't have Starz, so I only watched the first half of season one when I had a free preview, but Claire traveled through time. We're going to count that as Globetrotting.

  1. Heroes is the only I've seen (or at least tried to as I stopped at season 2 or 3) and it fits so well.

    1. I can barely remember this show now. I just dropped it completely. lol

  2. Oooh I picked Heroes and Falcon too. I'm still so bummed at how quickly Heroes went down the drain in terms of quality. It blows my mind.

    1. Oh I know, they were so popular too during that first season. I thought they would be like Lost and keep a strong fan base.

  3. I've heard of all three but have only seen an ep or two of the second and third.

Heroes was so popular there for a while so I tried it out but it wasn't for me.

My sister LOVES Outlander but I could never make it through even one of the books in the series so I never felt a pull to check out the show.

I don't watch much current TV so I had to reach back, as I usually do, but it was still tough to come up with three where the characters actually globetrot. I thought of Route 66 where they traveled on the title highway every week but it all took place in the US so I thought it wouldn't count. I did finally remember these three, all that I love, but I'm betting no one else will recall them. Too bad they're all entertaining.

It Takes a Thief (1968-1970)-Master cat burglar Alexander Mundy (Robert Wagner) is granted his release from prison on the proviso that he work with the US government using his particular skills to obtain sensitive info that they need to keep the world safe. Under the direction of agent Noah Bain (Malachi Thorne) who explains “Look Al, I’m not asking you to spy, I’m just asking you to steal!” Mundy jetted around the world to exotic locales on various jobs sometimes accompanied by his elegant thief of a father Alistair (Fred Astaire).

The Persuaders! (1971-1972)-After coming to blows in a bar fight fantastically rich globetrotting playboys English Lord Brett Sinclair (Roger Moore) and American Danny Wilde (Tony Curtis) are prevailed upon by the presiding judge to team up to use their distinctive expertise to solve crimes that have baffled the police. At first reluctant they soon become fast friends and adroit crime stoppers in far-flung spots around the world. The series only lasted a year because Moore departed to become the new James Bond.

Run for Your Life (1965-1968)-When attorney Paul Bryan (Ben Gazzara) is told by his doctor he has a terminal disease and will die within nine to eighteen months he decides he has a whole lot of livin’ to do and hits the road. Week after week Paul heads to a new place and new adventures as a man constantly on the move.

    1. It would be really hard to come up with older TV shows. I couldn't think of any (even though I only have a a hand full I watched because of Nick at Nite) I haven't heard of any of yours this week.

I'm not sure if I would've continued with Outlander had I had access to it. It was pretty rapey.

  4. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is a great pick. How can anyone not love dancing Zemo? I seriously think Marvel should do an exclusive special for Disney+ in a big time event where... IT'S ON! Zemo vs. Loki vs. Star-Lord vs. Bully Maguire vs. Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in the ULTIMATE DANCE-OFF!!!!!

With appearances from everyone in the MCU playing different characters with Chris Evans and Zoe Saldanas as early 2000s era TV hosts (wearing bad fashion), Sir Anthony Hopkins as the dance-off referee with a pirate accent, and all of the MCU hunks as... teenage girls fawning over the contestants. Come on! Who doesn't want to see that?

    1. Yes! I love that they released the "Zemo Cut" on youtube. They need to put that on actual Disney+, I'd put it on for background noise all the time.

  5. I will never get over the fact that I forgot to put The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on my list when I literally wrote weekly reviews for each episode and loved the show in general *sobs* BUT I'm so happy to see it on a couple posts. It's a really good example for this topic, which I found kind of hard.

    2. Exactly! I Had that same issue. It was all travel shows with celebs but nothing scripted.

  6. I can't believe I didn't think of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. lol They went everywhere. Outlander is a great choice. I would've picked it myself but I haven't watched it yet. Nice list!

  7. Oh my...How did I miss this?? I have heard of all 3 and would really like to see The Falcon. I had no idea what Outlander was about until someone else picked this and explained it so I wouldn't mind trying it. I heard Heroes was great and then went down the rabbit hole.

  8. They do travel later in Outlander so I think that counts :) I gave up on it myself I knew from the books it does not get less rapey.
