Thursday Movie Picks: Mother/Daughter Relationships

This week's theme from Wandering Through the Shelves is mother/daughter relationships. The kicker once again is that they have to be biologically related. Here's my favorites:

1) Thirteen

The ongoing battle between Tracy and her mother is one of the most interesting parts of this film. I think every teenage girl should watch this film. Even with their mothers

2) What Maisie Knew

I've never wanted to smack Julianne Moore as much as I did in this film. Poor Maisie. This little gem is a fascinating look on parenting.

3) Carrie

"Worst. Mother. Ever." - Carrie, probably.

  2. Carrie is a very popular choice, very easy to understand why. Haven't seen the other two, but Thirteen has appeared on quite a few lists so far so I may check that one out

  4. UGH Carrie. SO GOOD. Love Thirteen so good - I think it should be required viewing for teenage girls and their mothers. I've heard What Maisie Knew is good, especially the little girl.

  5. Great picks. So many of these are uncomfortable to watch. I like what you wrote about Julianne Moore. I've felt that way a few times watching all these mommy movies this week.

  7. I wouldn't say I love Carrie but it's a good film with great performances and perfect for the theme. Haven't seen What Maisie Knew and even if Julianne isn't the heroine of the piece she's enough for me to see it. Sorry but I hated Thirteen so much.

  8. Yes, Julianne Moore's Character in What Maisie Knew badly needed a smack down. And I actually did watch Thirteen with my teen daughter. :-) Great post!

  10. I actually wanted to watch What Maisie Knew this week but someone at my local video store got to it first (maybe you). I've never seen it so the most I have wanted to slap Julianne Moore was in the Carrie remake.

  12. What Maisie Knew is definitely a film about parenting, can't help but root for Maisie to find parental figures to love her. Great picks!

  13. I missed seeing What Maisie Knew at a local film fest last year. I could see why you'd want to smack the mother in this film! Carrie's been popping up on so many of this list, great pick!
