Thursday Movie Picks - TV Edition: Romance

The last love theme Wanderer has for the month is reserved for the small screen. Here are some shows I enjoy that romance was a main topic.

1) Euphoria

This is one of my favorite series that debuted in 2019. Euphoria is about growing up in gen Z, and along with that comes crushes, curiosity, and love. I think this show does a wonderful job of giving us a peek into what it's like to be a teenager today.

2) True Blood

This is a very sexy show and Sookie and Eric is the best romance in it. No, I'm not taking any other opinions. This is a fact.

3) The Mindy Project

I didn't watch every episode of this, but the entire premise was about Mindy's dating life and I did enjoy the episodes I saw.

  1. I don't know that first show and I think I only saw one episode of The Mindy Project but I did watch True Blood pretty faithfully for the first several seasons than it got progressively sillier and lost me. But those two did have quite the vibe.

Well I managed my time better this week and was able to pull three together. I went the romantic comedy route.

The Nanny (1993-1999)-Fran Fine (Fran Drescher) is working in a bridal shop in Flushing, Queens when her boyfriend kicks her out in one of those crushing scenes. What is she to do, where is she to go? She’s out on her fanny. So it’s over the bridge to the Sheffield's door, she was there to sell make-up but the father saw more….she had style, she had flair, she was there! That's how she became the Nanny. And for the next five years Fran and her widowed commitmentphobe boss Broadway producer Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy) flirt, fight and fall in love while she raises his three children and causes dozens of calamities assisted her dizzy friend Val (Rachel Chagall), brassy mother Sylvia (Renee Taylor), forgetful Grandma Yetta (Ann Morgan Gilbert) as well as Niles, the butler (Daniel Davis) and Max’s brittle, cynical partner C.C. Babcock (Lauren Lane) who share a love/hate relationship while she too pines for Max.

Pushing Daisies (2007)-Pie maker Ned (Lee Pace) has the ability to bring dead things back to life with his touch. He yearns for his childhood crush Chuck (Anna Friel) who he has brought back from the dead but at a cost. They cannot touch or Chuck will perish. While they try and find a solution they work with private investigator Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) and co-worker Olive Snook (a scene stealing Kristin Chenoweth) with Ned using his abilities to solve murder cases. Quirky, unique series was cancelled far too soon.

Love, American Style (1969-1974)-Comic anthology series that each week presented a series of vignettes featuring the various trials and tribulations of falling in love, marriage, falling back in love etc. With a constantly changing cast the show provided an early start for many future stars including Harrison Ford, Diane Keaton, Bernadette Peters, Burt Reynolds, Martin Sheen and many others.

  3. Euphoria is the scariest show ever, my God those teenagers these days are just animals

  4. Great list! I saw bits and pieces of the Mindy Project when it first came out. But I never got the chance to finish the show.

  5. YES!!!! TO SOOKIE AND ERIC!!!! Eric was always hotter and much cooler. Plus, he was at least more honest than Beeellll. Euphoria is indeed scary as I do agree with you on that pick as I hope they make it.

  6. The Mindy Project is a great pick for the theme! I like Chris Messina but I didn't like his character (or character development) - they started to write him out of the show. Euphoria is one I've been meaning to watch.

    1. I don't think I saw many of the later episodes of this. I didn't realize they started writing him out.

  7. Yay, love the love for Euphoria, it was so scary but so beautiful at the same time. True Blood - This is a very sexy show - YES! Even though very bloody, it's was also very sexy. I think I shipped only Eric and Sookie throughout.. Can't remember if I even finished it because of the mess they made of their story line.

Mindy Project - stopped watching when Mindy and Danny broke up.. but then Bryan Greenberg shows up later AND I still haven't caught up to it... I need to but part of me just got tired of the same same same same vibe this show had.

    1. Everything after season 4 (when they split up Eric and Sookie) was a trash fire. You didn't miss anything.

  8. Big surprise thT I have not seen any of these shows but I do wish to see True Blood. Didn’t Abigail Breslin marry her co-star even though she says she is bi-sexual? Oh well...one day I will see that show

    1. I think you're thinking of Anna Paquin! Yes, she married Stephen Moyer but being bi doesn't meant you can't be in a monogamous relationship. It just means you're attracted to both men and women.

    2. Yes..I am wrong. I agree about the bisexual and think that whatever makes a person happy, they must follow that path

    3. I keep thinking Abigail is still a child lol

  9. I haven't seen all of True Blood yet and the ones I've seen Sookie wasn't with Eric yet.

I think I saw like 2 seasons of The Mindy Project and I like it but the show got dropped off the local channels I think so I didn't catch all the later ones.
