Thursday Movie Picks: Secret Doorways/Worlds
This week's theme from Wandering Through The Shelves is movies that have secret doorways and/or worlds. I had two picks come to mind fairly quickly and both are very obvious choices. The other I had to think about for a while. Here are three films I love with secret doors
1) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
Of course I had to go with the Wardrobe, that's the ultimate secret door, right? I actually didn't know anything about Narnia before this movie came out but my then boyfriend was a huge fan of the books. I really liked the first two movies. The third was a bit of a dud, but it's still a shame they couldn't continue with the story for the fans.
2) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
There's quite a few secret doors in Harry Potter but I'm going with the film that introduces the Room of Requirements that only appears when a person really needs something. Also, it's the only one of the HP movies not written by that troll Steven Kloves so 10 points to this movie.
3) Coraline
In this stop motion film, Coraline movies into a new house and finds a small locked door that takes her into another reality with her (at first) much nicer "button" parents. This is one of my son's favorite movies so I've seen it way too many times, but it's a good one.

Great picks! I wanted to pick Narnia too but it seemed too much of an obvious choice.
ReplyDeleteI thought so too, but so far it hasn't been very popular lol
DeleteAh, seen all three and I think Coraline is like a secret favourite here because well... HP movie kills off Sirius in the fifth one so.. BOOOO!
ReplyDeleteI remember getting so mad the first time I read that lol.
DeleteI remember thinking HP & Order of the Phoenix was a good entry in the series, they got progressively better as the went along, but it's been so long I don't have a clear memory of the particular plot.
ReplyDeleteI've seen a version of Lion, Witch & Wardrobe but not this one.
Coraline is one I've never caught up with or really have any desire to.
I almost sat this week out since this sort of film isn't really my thing most of the time but I did manage to come up with three...even one animated! It's one my sister and I watched all the time when I was a kid so I have a soft spot for it.
Alice in Wonderland (1933)-Alice (Charlotte Henry) goes down the rabbit hole and tumbles into a crazy world where Cary Grant is the Mock Turtle, Gary Cooper the White Knight, W.C. Fields Humpty Dumpty, Edward Everett Horton the Mad Hatter and a raft of familiar but less famous performers other characters.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 & 2 (2011)-The final two films in the Potter series and perhaps the best find Harry, Hermione and Ron battling Voldemort to destroy the Horcruxes.
Peter Pan (1953)-Animated Disney film where the magical boy Peter Pan and the faithful Tinkerbell whisk the Darling children off to the enchanted world of Neverland where they help him battle the wicked pirate Captain Hook.
Animation! The Disney version remains my favorite film version of Peter Pan tbh. Even without the nostalgia factor it just holds up for me. I'm a huge fan of HP, so obviously I love Deathly Hallows as well. It was my favorite book.
DeleteI haven't seen that version of Alice, but I've seen plenty of them. I like the story.
Ah, 3 great picks. You know what, I actually like the script version of The Order of the Phoenix more than the other films. Especially as they had Ginny be the one that's the most powerful of the 6 young wizards/witches. I would've love to see how powerful she really is with that Bat-Bogey Hex she's infamous for.
ReplyDeleteYes, I too hate the new Blogger interface as I tried and it didn't work for me at all. I'm old school and I'll stay old school.
The movies did such an awful job with Ginny. I always hated that she and Harry got together because I thought it was a cheap way to recreate James and Lily, but movie Ginny had no spark.
DeleteGreat list! I've seen the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Coraline and I loved them! I still need to watch the Harry Potter movies.
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Thursday Movie Picks!

Read the HP books if you haven't!
DeleteYay! We have one movie in common, Brittany! I haven't seen Coraline yet, man I really should as it's been recommended to me so many times.
ReplyDeleteIt's a cool little film. I need a break from it personally but I've always enjoyed it.
DeleteI love all of your picks - we match with the first one!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHere I thought I already left my comment. Narnia is everywhere this week and one Ihave to see. Coraline sounds intriguing from what I read and will see this one day. We match with Harry Potter but just differ on which entry. They are a great series of films
ReplyDeleteCoraline is really cool, definitely worth the watch! Same with Narnia.
DeleteI've only read Coraline. Didn't enjoy it, I think it is for very young readers so it
ReplyDeletewas hard to enjoy the book as an adult. The movie looks good though at least visually.
I never realized it was a book before it was a film, though that makes sense.
