Road Trip


Veronica (Haley Lu Richardson) is a 17 year old girl in Missouri who needs an abortion. She finds out that the closest clinic to her that will allow her to get what she needs without parental consent is in New Mexico. When her boyfriend reacts in a way she doesn't expect, she enlists her former friend Bailey (Barbie Ferreira) to drive her there. Shenanigans ensues.

Everything I praised Never Rarely Sometimes Always for earlier this year for not doing happens in this movie, and it only makes me appreciate the former even more. I understand that they're going for very different things. This is more of a screwball comedy to NRSA's melancholy approach, but it harms the movie so much its impossible not to compare the two.

Everything goes wrong for Veronica and Bailey, they start out icy given their history, bond, have a huge blow out fight, then make up. That's not even a spoiler, that's just the basic trope. Richardson and Ferreira being delightful actresses is the only thing that makes this movie watchable. I've enjoyed their work elsewhere, so I stuck with this one even though by the time I hate the 75 minute mark all I wanted to do was fast forward to get it over with.

Aside from them, there is some nice cinematography and some of the jokes are funny, but this film is far too predictable and basic to fully enjoy.

    Ugh. I was sort of excited for it because I like the main actresses but saw the rating and a few reviews here and there and thought it wouldn't work. And watched The
    Babysitter instead. A much better fit.

      I need to check out The Babysitter. I was hoping this would be an amusing companion piece to Never Rarely Sometimes Always but it just doesn't work.

    I really do want to see Never Rarely Sometimes Always though I'm still interested in this film. The Babysitter, not so much as I just fucking hate McG and fuck Bella Thorne for using Onlyfans for being a cocktease and deprive money from sex workers.

      Bella Thorne is awful and doesn't seem sorry at all for the problems she caused so many sex workers on Only Fans. Highly recommend Never Rarely Sometimes Always, I hope you get the chance to check it out soon.

      You should! You might fun Unpregnant amusing, it does have some funny moments, but it's hard to appreciate it when a better film about the same thing came out this year as well.

Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) has quietly been trying to make a difference as The Batman in Gotham. He can't be everywhere. He works closely with Lt Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) and they face a puzzling crime by a masked murderer going by The Riddler. Thursday Movie Picks: Wedding Movies

How fitting that Wandering Through The Shelves has us start the month of June with movies about weddings. June brides are a thing, right? At least that's what people kept telling me when I got married in June. I just picked it because it was warm. To be honest, I don't like many wedding movies, so this was kind of tough, but here's a few I can tolerate. 1) Wedding Crashers This is one of my favorite comedies until the last 20 minutes or so when it falls flat on its face. But it's so hilarious and quotable before all of that, I can forgive it. Lock it up. 2) Rachel Getting Married I used this one for a pick last year but it's easily my favorite movie involving a wedding. The acting is fantastic. I 3) Corpse Bride Truth be told, I wasn't crazy about Corpse Bride, but like I said. Slim pickings in the wedding movie world for me. I'd watch this over a "classic" like My Best Friend's Wedding or Runaway Bride any day.  click th

Random Ramblings: The Radio Flyer Conundrum

Recently, I was talking to someone about who I thought were the best child actors when I was also a child.  Two that really stood out to me were Elijah Wood and Joseph Mazello, and one film those two were in together was called Radio Flyer.  Then I was reminded about the uniqueness of this film. Instead of reviewing the film, I wanted to have an open discussion about the ending. It deals with a tough issue; child abuse. What I’ve noticed is the way that the film ends is interpreted many different ways, and the filmmakers never came forward to say what was right and wrong.
