2022 Golden Globe Nominations

No, the Globes aren't really relevant this year, but for the sake of consistency on the blog, I'm going to talk about them. I'm traveling for work again this week, so I plan on doing a better breakdown of the Critic's Choice Award nominees, both TV and movie, but that will have to wait for the weekend. Here are the nominations + some quick thoughts.

Best Motion Picture, Drama
Belfast
CODA
Dune
King Richard
The Power of the Dog
I think these will all be Best Picture nominees as well. I'm team Power of the Dog all the way. I wish something as great as Nine Days could be here.

Best Picture, Musical or Comedy
Cyrano
Don’t Look Up
Licorice Pizza
tick, tick...BOOM!
West Side Story
I was hoping Annette would've been nominated here. This is a category I hope to catch up on soon. I've only seen Tick, Tick Boom.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama
Jessica Chastain (“The Eyes of Tammy Faye”)
Olivia Colman (“The Lost Daughter”)
Nicole Kidman (“Being the Ricardos”)
Lady Gaga (“House of Gucci”)
Kristen Stewart (“Spencer”)
I wish Emilia Jones would've been here for CODA. This category is quite stacked this year, but after Chastain and Stewart, she'd be my solid 3rd pick.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Marion Cotillard (“Annette”)
Alana Haim (“Licorice Pizza”)
Jennifer Lawrence (“Don’t Look Up”)
Emma Stone (“Cruella”)
Rachel Zegler (“West Side Story”)
I love Cotillard, but her being the sole Annette nominee baffles me. I don't even think she was in this enough to be a lead actress. Good for Emma Stone though. She was so fun in Cruella.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama
Mahershala Ali (“Swan Song”)
Javier Bardem (“Being the Ricardos”)
Benedict Cumberbatch (“The Power of the Dog”)
Will Smith (“King Richard”)
Denzel Washington (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”)
I have no idea what Swan Song is. That came out of nowhere. I'm rooting for Benny Batch. God, The Power of the Dog is so good.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Leonardo DiCaprio (“Don’t Look Up”)
Peter Dinklage (“Cyrano”)
Andrew Garfield (“tick, tick … Boom!”)
Cooper Hoffman (“Licorice Pizza”)
Anthony Ramos (“In the Heights”)
I weep for no Adam Driver here.

Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture
Ben Affleck (“The Tender Bar”)
Jamie Dornan (“Belfast”)
Ciarán Hinds (“Belfast”)
Troy Kotsur (“CODA”)
Kodi Smit-McPhee (“The Power of the Dog”)
What the hell is The Tender Bar? And why the hell is Dornan being nominated for everything? He was so boring in Belfast. Hinds and Hill were the magical ones. Happy for Kotsur and Smit-McPhee. I'm glad CODA isn't being forgotten.

Best Original Score, Motion Picture
“The French Dispatch”  — Alexandre Desplat
“Encanto” — Germaine Franco
“The Power of the Dog”  — Jonny Greenwood
“Parallel Mothers” — Alberto Iglesias
“Dune”  — Hans Zimmer
I still need to see Parallel Mothers and Encanto, but I love the other picks. I wish Spencer could've gotten in here somewhere.

Best Supporting Actress, Motion Picture
Caitriona Balfe, “Belfast”
Ariana DeBose, “West Side Story”
Kirsten Dunst, “The Power of the Dog”
Aunjanue Ellis, “King Richard”
Ruth Negga, “Passing”
My girl Kirsten!!! And Ellis, I loved her in King Richard.

Best Picture, Foreign Language
“Compartment No. 6”
“Drive My Car”
“The Hand of God”
“A Hero”
“Parallel Mothers”
Ahh, my favorite category that I never get to complete for the Oscars..

Best Screenplay, Motion Picture
Licorice Pizza
Belfast
The Power of the Dog
Don’t Look Up
Being the Ricardos
I'm 2/5 for this category so far. Hopefully I'll get the chance to see Licorice Pizza soon since the other two are both December streamers.

Best Original Song, Motion Picture
“Be Alive,” “King Richard”
“Dos Oruguitas,” “Encanto”
“Down to Joy,” “Belfast”
“Here I Am,” “Respect”
“No Time to Die,” “No Time to Die”
The only one of these I'm familiar with is No Time to Die, so I have some listening to do.

Best Motion Picture, Animated
“Encanto”
“Flee”
“Luca”
“My Sunny Maid”
“Raya and the Last Dragon”
I am so bored with the animated films this year. The only one of these I've bothered to see is Luca, and I'll see Flee if I get the chance, but nothing is really grabbing my attention the way Wolfwalkers and Soul did last year.

Best Director, Motion Picture
Kenneth Branagh (“Belfast”)
Jane Campion (“The Power of the Dog”)
Maggie Gyllenhaal (“The Lost Daughter”)
Steven Spielberg (“West Side Story”)
Denis Villeneuve (“Dune”)
WOMEN!!

Best Television Series, Drama
Lupin
The Morning Show
Pose
Squid Game
Succession
I'm glad Squid Game is getting some international love. The Morning Show's second season was an embracement. Pose had a very heartfelt send off, but it's Succession for me here.

Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy
The Great
Hacks
Only Murders in the Building
Reservation Dogs
Ted Lasso
I'm still on my Ted Lasso high from the Emmys. Give this everything.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama
Brian Cox (Succession)
Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game)
Billy Porter (Pose)
Jeremy Strong (Succession)
Omar Sy (Lupin)
I haven't seen Lupin, but what a strong bunch of nominees here.

Best Performance by an Actress, Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture made for Television
Jessica Chastain (Scenes From a Marriage)
Cynthia Erivo (Genius: Aretha)
Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision)
Margaret Qualley (Maid)
Kate Winslet (Mare of Easttown)
I'm happy to see my girl Lizzie here! I'm shocked Beanie Feldstein isn't nominated for American Crime Story.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama
Uzo Aduba (In Treatment)
Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show)
Christine Baranski (The Good Fight)
Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale)
MJ Rodriguez (Pose)
I really hope MJ wins here.

Best Television Actor, Musical / Comedy Series
Anthony Anderson, (Blackish)
Nicholas Hoult, (The Great)
Steven Martin, (Only Murders in the Building)
Martin Short, (Only Murders in the Building)
Jason Sudeikis, (Ted Lasso)
Only Murders in the Building looks so dull, but it's a freshman show so of course the Globes love it.

Best Supporting Actress, Television
Jennifer Coolidge, (The White Lotus)
Kaitlyn Dever, (Dopesick)
Andie MacDowell, (Maid)
Sarah Snook, (Succession)
Hannah Waddingham, (Ted Lasso)
No Kathryn Hahn for Wandavision depresses me. I still need to see The White Lotus and Maid. Hannah Waddingham is my favorite, but Snook and Dever are great in their shows as well.

Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy
Hannah Einbinder (Hacks)
Elle Fanning (The Great)
Issa Rae (Insecure)
Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish)
Jean Smart (Hacks)
Issa!!

Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television
Dopesick
Impeachment: American Crime Story
Maid
Mare of Easttown
The Underground Railroad
It's so weird for them to put ACS and Underground railroad here but nowhere else. And to nominate Wandavision's lead actors, but then leave the show off completely?

Best Supporting Actor, Television
Billy Crudup (The Morning Show)
Kieran Culkin (Succession)
Mark Duplass (The Morning Show)
Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso)
Oh Yeong-su (Squid Game)
I know the Globes love Kieran but Matthew Macfayden was the MVP of Succession this year. He should've been nominated.

Best Performance by an Actor, Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture made for Television
Paul Bettany (WandaVision)
Oscar Isaac (Scenes From a Marriage)
Michael Keaton (Dopesick)
Ewan McGregor (Halston)
Tahar Rahim (The Serpent)
I'm glad Oscar Isaac and his glorious ass were nominated for Scenes from a Marriage.

  1. The Golden Globes are still shit. I'm just glad Dear Evan Hansen got 0 nominations or else we'd be screaming SHENANIGANS again like we did with Music earlier this year.

BTW, I hate the new Fantastic Beasts trailer and fuck J.K. Lucas.

    1. Oh I know, I was bracing for Ben Platt to get a nomination.
      JK is awful.

  2. Well, of course, I have not seen any. So...they will not be telecast right? I hate that

    1. I believe so unless someone picks them up. The biggest shame is no drunken celebs. That's the best part of the Globes lol

  3. Adam Driver is criminally robbed!! He did 3 amazing performances this year that warrant at least one, maybe even two noms. I love his performance in Annette, it's just so wild and crazy.

    1. I agree! I thought for sure the Globes would nominate him too. But Leo is a bigger star, I guess.
