2024 Golden Globe Nominations
The Golden Globe nominations are here and I'm begging them to get presenters that don't mess up the pronunciation of everything because Cedric the Entertainer and Wilmur Valderama were not it this morning. Below is a list of nominees, followed by my thoughts.
BEST MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Anatomy Of A Fall
Killers Of The Flower Moon
Maestro
Oppenheimer
Past Lives
The Zone Of Interest
Both Anatomy and Zone getting in here feels pretty huge. I'm very happy for Past Lives and Oppenheimer, two of my favorites.
BEST MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Air
American Fiction
Barbie
The Holdovers
May December
Poor Things
I have no idea how May December is considered a comedy. That hotdog scene was only ONE scene! It bums me out something like Flora and Son misses because of that. The only one I haven't seen here is Poor Things, but I love all the other movies included (including May December, I just don't think it's a comedy)
BEST DIRECTOR, MOTION PICTURE
Bradley Cooper – Maestro
Greta Gerwig – Barbie
Yorgos Lanthimos – Poor Things
Christopher Nolan – Oppenheimer
Martin Scorsese – Killers Of The Flower Moon
Celine Song – Past Lives
TWO women! I long for the day we can take all 5.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Annette Bening – Nyad
Lily Gladstone – Killers Of The Flower Moon
Sandra Huller – Anatomy Of A Fall
Greta Lee – Past Lives
Carey Mulligan – Maestro
Cailee Spaeny – Priscilla
I completely forgot about Nyad, I should probably watch that. I love this for Gladstone, Lee and Spaeny. I wasn't sure if Spaeny would make it in, but I'm so glad she did.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Fantasia Barrino – The Color Purple
Jennifer Lawrence – No Hard Feelings
Natalie Portman – May December
Alma Pöysti – Fallen Leaves
Margot Robbie – Barbie
Emma Stone – Poor Things
Again I wonder how May December is comedy. Lawrence carried No Hard Feelings so it's fun to see her here. I just wish Eve Hewson would've gotten in for Flora and Son as well. This was a reminder to see Fallen Leaves if it comes out near me.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN ANY MOTION PICTURE
Emily Blunt – Oppenheimer
Danielle Brooks – The Color Purple
Jodie Foster – Nyad
Da’Vine Joy Randolph – The Holdovers
Julianne Moore – May December
Rosamund Pike – Saltburn
I'm so happy for Blunt, Randolph and Pike! Three easy favorites. I haven't seen The Color Purple yet, but I adore Danielle Brooks.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Bradley Cooper – Maestro
Colman Domingo – Rustin
Leonardo DiCaprio – Killers Of The Flower Moon
Barry Keoghan – Saltburn
Cillian Murphy – Oppenheimer
Andrew Scott – All Of Us Strangers
Rustin is another I need to check out on Netflix. Happy to see Keoghan make it in for Saltburn. Still rooting for Cillian to take it all.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Nicolas Cage – Dream Scenario
Timothee Chalamet – Wonka
Matt Damon – Air
Paul Giamatti – The Holdovers
Joaquin Phoenix – Beau Is Afraid
Jeffrey Wright – American Fiction
Wright and Giamatti have my favorite performances for what I've seen here. I had kind of forgot about Air, but it's nice to see Damon make it in for that. He was very good.
BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN ANY MOTION PICTURE
Willem Dafoe – Poor Things
Robert De Niro – Killers Of The Flower Moon
Robert Downey Jr. – Oppenheimer
Ryan Gosling – Barbie
Charles Melton – May December
Mark Ruffalo – Poor Things
Charles Melton! I'm getting more hyped for Poor Things by the day.

Poor Things and Anatomy of a Fall are the only two I haven't seen here, and I'm very excited for both.
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE, MOTION PICTURE
The Boy And The Heron
Killers Of The Flower Moon
Oppenheimer
Poor Things
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
The Zone Of Interest
It's really cool that Spider-man made it in here. Still bummed I didn't get to see The Boy and the Heron this weekend like I wanted. Hopefully I'm catching it tomorrow.
BEST ORIGINAL SONG, MOTION PICTURE
“What Was I Made For?” – Barbie
“I’m Just Ken” – Barbie
“Dance The Night” – Barbie
“Road To Freedom” – Rustin
“Addicted To Romance” – She Came To Me
“Peaches” – The Super Mario Bros. Movie
I LOVE that Peaches made it in. I fucking love that song. I'm sad Can't Catch Me Now from The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes didn't make it in. It really captures the film well.
BEST MOTION PICTURE, ANIMATED
The Boy And The Heron
Elemental
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Suzume
Wish
Suzume is the only one I'm not familiar with here, hopefully I'll get the chance to see it. Bummed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles missed because that film was great.
BEST MOTION PICTURE, FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Anatomy Of A Fall
Fallen Leaves
Io Capitano
Past Lives
Society Of The Snow
The Zone Of Interest
Past Lives is the only one I've seen here but the rest are on my watch list.
GOLDEN GLOBE FOR CINEMATIC & BOX OFFICE ACHIEVEMENT
Barbie
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3
John Wick: Chapter 4
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One
Oppenheimer
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour
I honestly don't know what the fuck this award is for? Movies that made over 100M at the domestic box office? We're rewarding that now?
BEST TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
1923

I keep forgetting about Jury Duty. I'm very happy for The Bear, Ted Lasso and Abbott!

All The Light We Cannot See

Riley Keough – Daisy Jones and the Six

Matthew Macfayden – Succession
James Marsden – Jury Duty
Ebon Moss-Bachrach – The Bear

Ricky Gervais – Ricky Gervais: Armageddon
Trevor Noah – Trevor Noah: Where Was I
Chris Rock – Chris Rock: Selective Outrage
Amy Schumer – Amy Schumer: Emergency Contact
Sarah Silverman – Sarah Silverman: Someone You Love
Wanda Sykes – Wanda Sykes: I’m an Entertainer
Another category I did not realize was a thing.
*List of nominations compliments of Next Best Picture*
I'm not a fan of these 2 new categories at all. I don't like the idea of Amy Schumer winning some award as she's not funny at all. The whole box office award is dumb as they might eventually give it to a film that was awful that no one liked yet it won because of all of the money it made. This is fucking stupid. No wonder people don't take the Golden Globes seriously.
ReplyDeleteIf I was hosting. I'd just grab the trophies and announce the winners and then throw the trophy and say "it's yours!" It would go on for 5-10 minutes. That's it.
They're both stupid and they probably should've taken note from the Oscars who ditched the idea. I'm sure people will be clowning on them hard at the ceremony.
