2014 Screen Actors Guild winners + my thoughts
Here's a list of the 2013 SAG winners! The winners are in bold.
My thoughts as always follow in green.
12 Years a Slave
American Hustle
August: Osage County
Dallas Buyers Club
The Butler
Honestly, I thought 12 Years a Slave deserved this, and this is coming from someone who actually gave American Hustle a higher grade. The actors in 12 Years had harder jobs than American Hustle, IMO.
Lead Actor
Bruce Dern, Nebraska
Chiwetel Ejiofor, 12 Years a Slave
Tom Hanks, Captain Phillips
Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club
Forest Whitaker, The Butler
I need to wait for the BAFTAs to decide if McConaughey is a lock for Oscar or not, but he gave a wonderful speech.
Lead Actress
Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine
Sandra Bullock, Gravity
Judi Dench, Philomena
Meryl Streep, August: Osage County
Emma Thompson, Saving Mr. Banks
I saw this coming, but I'm happy for her. Her speech was great too
Supporting Actor
Barkhad Abdi, Captain Phillips
Daniel Bruhl, Rush
Michael Fassbender, 12 Years a Slave
Janes Gandolfini, Enough Said
Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club
Jared Leto gave one classy speech. Too bad his hair is still awful. (But he was hilarious on the red carpet hitting on Emilia Clarke.)
Supporting Actress
Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle
Lupita Nyong’o, 12 Years a Slave
Julia Roberts, August: Osage County
June Squibb, Nebraska
Oprah Winfrey, The Butler
SO happy Nyong'o took this one, although her thanking Solomon Northup was awkward.

I LOVED the Jared and Emilia red carpet moment haha
ReplyDeleteAnd yay for Breaking Bad, so deserving of every single award. I'm still not sure whether or not I think McConaughey will win the Oscar, mainly because I want Leo or Chiwetel to win it but so far it looks like he will
It's crazy how things have been turning out. Before the Globes, I thought Chiwetel was a lock to win. I never thought he'd have so much competition from McConaughey and Leo.
DeleteJared hitting on our Khaleesi was priceless, he couldn't stop touching her. I think Matt is winning, BAFTA is always very UK-actors oriented and barely anyone saw his movie there to begin with.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he got her number? I think Matt has the advantage too, but I want Leo to win SO BADLY!
Deletelol JLD is hilarious! Curious, what was so awkward about thanking Solomon Northrup? loved her dress, but i could have done without the flowery top part. matt mc's speech was so all over the place but i love him. happy for him. Listen, I just know there are women clamoring for jared's hair! lol he is so pretty with pretty hair (but it wouldn't hurt to wash it every once in a while lol).
ReplyDeleteI think it's the weird highlights that are off putting to me. I can't describe why I think it's weird she thanked Northrup. It's the same reason I thought it was awkward when Anne Hathaway thanked Victor Hugo. Sure, they wrote the story, but they didn't really have anything to do with the way they acted in the movie. It didn't help that someone on Twitter joked about her thanking him for getting sold into slavery right after she said that.
