My Favorite Women in Horror Films
I thought it would be fun to showcase some of my favorite women in horror films. Whether they're final girls, scene stealers, scream queens, may queens, or even a prom queen, here's a quick list of some women I love. Let me know some recommendations you have as well.
Justine - Raw
Oh Justine, I want you to figure it out too.
Dana - Cabin in the Woods
One of my favorite movies of all time.
Laurie Strode - Halloween
The ultimate final girl.
Maddie - Hush
The scariest home invasion movie I've seen.
Suzy - Suspira
I love this candy colored nightmare.
Ellen Ripley - Alien
This badass.
Lizzie - The Perfection
She was my favorite part of this.
May - May
So creepy, and one I need to revist.
Amelia - The Babadook
One of the deepest horror films in recent memory.
Selena - 28 Days Later
For being so tough and protective of young Hannah.
Carrie - Carrie
The most memorable prom queen.
Sidney Prescott - Scream
My favorite scream queen.
Lorraine Warren - The Conjuring
Because she holds it together during all the uncomfortable creepiness.
Soo-an - Train To Busan
This little one was everything in this film.
Sarah - Starry Eyes
What a price for fame.
Dani - Midsommar
The May Queen.
Melanie - The Girl With All The Gifts
Because she's so sweet in a world that is so cruel.
Jesse - The Neon Demon
I'm actually just high key obsessed with the makeup and costumes in this film.
omg so many great ones!

DeleteHush! Goddamn it's so underrated
ReplyDeleteYes it is!
DeleteOf course I have not seen most of them:) I would add Betty Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Jamie Lee Curtis in the first Halloween movie. Gloria Swanson in Killer Bees. Karen Black in any horror film. There are some kick ass women in film
ReplyDeleteI love Bette in that role. I'm not sure if I'd call that horror, but I suppose it could be. lol.
DeleteAh, May... I so had a crush on Angela Bettis for that performance. She was so adorable and if she had a body part I liked. I would've given it to her. You also can't go wrong with Laurie Strode, Ripley (the ultimate bad-ass), Jesse, Carrie (I would never want to fuck with her), Amelia, Selena, Suzy, Justine, and Dana. Those are some great women of horror. I'm just glad you didn't mention Asami from Audition, she really scares me.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm kicking myself for not doing that. Audition's ending was terrifying.
DeleteAwesome list! I loved Carrie! I need to watch the original Halloween movies soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteGreat list! I'm so happy to see Maddie made it because she's such a great character, Kate is so good and the film doesn't get the attention it needs.
ReplyDeleteI agree! I get why people avoid Netflix horror but this one is so good.
DeleteCool list! 28 Days Later is one of the best horror movies ever. Even though Scream is pretty popular, I always feel like Sydney is underrated too. I really need to check out Hush and The Neon Demon.
ReplyDeleteSyd is fantastic, she deserves all the love. Hush is fantastic. Neon Demon is just okay but it's a beautiful film to look at.
DeleteGreat list! I guess gender diversity isn't a problem in horror lol
ReplyDeletePolanski has fallen out of favor but his early psychological horrors Repulsion (1965) and Rosemary’s Baby (1968) still holds up with haunting performances by Catherine Deneuve and Mia Farrow.
ReplyDeleteI need to re-watch Rosemary's Baby. I only saw the film once when I was a teenager and I barely remember it.
