Thursday Movie Picks - TV Edition: Freshman Series

The first TV week of 2021 at Wandering Through The Shelves is as always, the shows that are also starting their first season. Here are three that I've started within the past year.

1) WandaVision -
I know this is a one off series and there's only been a few episodes but it's Wanda, my favorite MCU character. I have no choice but to stan. I'm also aware this is a 2021 release but I have just about every 2020 show I watched saved for one category or another this year.

2) I May Destroy You -
There's still no word if Michael Coel is going to write a second season for this, but I hope she does. I fell in love with the characters and I'd love to see where they go from here.

3) The Morning Show -
I really wish this show wasn't on Apple TV as it's not a service I plan on keeping (I have a year free trial) but this show is excellent. It reminds me a lot of The Newsroom, which I adored.

  1. These all sound interesting but I've only heard of the last but seen none.

I'm sitting out the week because I started watching exactly zero new shows this year! Lots of older movies though.

    1. As a classic movie/TV lover, you might like Wandavision! The sitcom aspects of the show are very well done.

  2. Yup, I have seen none of these but how I really want to see Wanda vision which looks so good. It seems like it will be mini lovies rather than a tv show. I wouldn't mind seeing The Morning Show as well. Oh well, maybe one day.

    1. Wandavision is really cool, I'm glad it's an acceptable pick since I apparently can't read the themes correctly.

  3. I LOVE... WANDAVISION. I'm so waiting for the next episode as that is the first thing I do after lunch is watch that show on my mom's iPad (and sometimes with my nephew) as he does get a kick out of its humor though he doesn't understand what is going on.

I also await for what the 4th episode's theme song will be as Robert and Kristen-Anderson Lopez will create.

    1. I have to wait until the evenings to watch because my husband, son, and I watch as a family. It's torture lol. We did this with The Mandalorian too.

  4. You just reminded me I have to hurry to watch The Morning Show because my free year expires mid February. It's really a shame they don't have a lot of content included with the subscription because their originals are so good.

    1. I know, and the fact that they release weekly means I'll probably end up waiting until the entire season is mostly released to binge, but then I'll be behind.

  5. Absolutely loving WandaVision! I didn't have a big doubt in Marvel to do TV shows, but they've handled hers well so far.

Is The Morning Show worth it to watch for Gugu Mbatha-Raw? I love her, but she doesn't get enough good roles.

    Nice picks!!

    1. She's very good in it, but my main issue with the show was what they did with her character. I found that incredibly frustrating.

  6. Honestly, your hype for Wandavision is what made me give it a go (I don't watch much TV) and I'm SO glad I did because I'm loving it so far!

  7. The Morning Show also isn't a 2020 series, it was released in 2019. Anyway AppleTV+ keeps extending their free trial service, apparently twice already. I think they're afraid people will leave when their free trial expires due to having soo little content, and the number of subscribers they have is likely to influence content makers desire to work with them on future projects, so they just have to keep giving the service for free I suppose until they have enough regular content that make people willing to pay for their service.
