2024 Golden Globe Predictions: Who Will Win, Who Should Win

It's Golden Globe prediction time! Coming to you a little late because that's just what my life has been like recently. There's a chance that I might not be able to watch the show live, which will massively bum me out, but just in case - here's who I think will in and in some cases who should win instead.

BEST MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Anatomy Of A Fall
Killers Of The Flower Moon
Maestro
Oppenheimer
Past Lives
The Zone Of Interest
Who will and should win: Oppenheimer
We're in a Barbenheimer world and while there's some great films and Maestro in this list, Oppenheimer still reigns supreme as the best.

BEST MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Air
American Fiction
Barbie
The Holdovers
May December
Poor Things
Who will win: Barbie
Who should win: The Holdovers or American Fiction
Barbie might be the lockiest lock for the Globes tonight. I do prefer Holdovers and American Fiction, but I won't be mad when Barbie wins. It is the year of Barbenheimer after all.

BEST DIRECTOR, MOTION PICTURE
Bradley Cooper – Maestro
Greta Gerwig – Barbie
Yorgos Lanthimos – Poor Things
Christopher Nolan – Oppenheimer
Martin Scorsese – Killers Of The Flower Moon
Celine Song – Past Lives
Who will and should win: Christopher Nolan
This one I'm not so sure on, but I think one of the Best Picture winners will also take it home here and I see them going for Nolan over Greta.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Annette Bening – Nyad
Lily Gladstone – Killers Of The Flower Moon
Sandra Huller – Anatomy Of A Fall
Greta Lee – Past Lives
Carey Mulligan – Maestro
Cailee Spaeny – Priscilla
Who will and should win: Lily Gladstone
This is another I don't feel completely confident with, but Lily seems to have the biggest campaign behind her.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Fantasia Barrino – The Color Purple
Jennifer Lawrence – No Hard Feelings
Natalie Portman – May December
Alma P̦ysti РFallen Leaves
Margot Robbie – Barbie
Emma Stone – Poor Things
Who will win: Margot Robbie
Who should win: Emma Stone
The Globes love a spectacle, which is why I see them going with Margot even though Emma gave the best performance by a long shot.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN ANY MOTION PICTURE
Emily Blunt – Oppenheimer
Danielle Brooks – The Color Purple
Jodie Foster – Nyad
Da’Vine Joy Randolph – The Holdovers
Julianne Moore – May December
Rosamund Pike – Saltburn
Who will and should win: Da'Vine Joy Randolph
I feel like Da'Vine has an edge here, even though there's a lot of legacy actresses that could easily win it. I'm sticking with my gut.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE, DRAMA
Bradley Cooper – Maestro
Colman Domingo – Rustin
Leonardo DiCaprio – Killers Of The Flower Moon
Barry Keoghan – Saltburn
Cillian Murphy – Oppenheimer
Andrew Scott – All Of Us Strangers
Who will and should win: Cillian Murphy
I refuse to entertain anyone but Murphy winning this.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Nicolas Cage – Dream Scenario
Timothee Chalamet – Wonka
Matt Damon – Air
Paul Giamatti – The Holdovers
Joaquin Phoenix – Beau Is Afraid
Jeffrey Wright – American Fiction
Who will win: Paul Giamatti
Who should win: Him or Jeffrey Wright
If Murphy wasn't here, I'd think Giamatti would be running away with the Oscar, so I see him winning here.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN ANY MOTION PICTURE
Willem Dafoe – Poor Things
Robert De Niro – Killers Of The Flower Moon
Robert Downey Jr. – Oppenheimer
Ryan Gosling – Barbie
Charles Melton – May December
Mark Ruffalo – Poor Things
Who will win: Robert Downey Jr
Who should win - Anyone, really
I love this category, but I feel like RDJ has this on lock. I feel more confident about him than Murphy at this point.

BEST SCREENPLAY, MOTION PICTURE
Anatomy Of A Fall
Barbie
The Holdovers
Killers Of The Flower Moon
Oppenheimer
Poor Things
Who will win: Poor Things
Who should win: All of them!
I love all of these screenplays. I think Oppenheimer will have a big night, but I can't see it taking all the awards, so I'm going with Poor Things since it is the weirdest of the nominees.

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE, MOTION PICTURE
The Boy And The Heron
Killers Of The Flower Moon
Oppenheimer
Poor Things
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
The Zone Of Interest
Who will and should win: The Boy and the Heron
I haven't seen the Zone of Interest yet, but for the others it has the most memorable score.

BEST ORIGINAL SONG, MOTION PICTURE
“What Was I Made For?” – Barbie
“I’m Just Ken” – Barbie
“Dance The Night” – Barbie
“Road To Freedom” – Rustin
“Addicted To Romance” – She Came To Me
“Peaches” – The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Who will and should win: I'm Just Ken
Billie just won an Oscar and I can see the Globes going full camp and letting Ken win here.

BEST MOTION PICTURE, ANIMATED
The Boy And The Heron
Elemental
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Suzume
Wish
Who will and should win: Spider-man: Across The Spider-verse
Nothing should be touching this.

BEST MOTION PICTURE, FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Anatomy Of A Fall
Fallen Leaves
Io Capitano
Past Lives
Society Of The Snow
The Zone Of Interest
Who will and should win: Past Lives
The HFPA clearly loved this, and I can see it winning here, though I'd be very happy with Anatomy winning too.

GOLDEN GLOBE FOR CINEMATIC & BOX OFFICE ACHIEVEMENT
Barbie
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3
John Wick: Chapter 4
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One
Oppenheimer
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour
Who will win: Taylor Swift
What the fuck is this even for?

BEST TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
1923
The Crown
The Diplomat
The Last of Us
The Morning Show
Succession
Who will and should win: Succession
The Globes love them a Freshman show, which is why The Last of Us could take it, but Succession went out on such a high note it would be weird to ignore it.

BEST TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL, OR COMEDY
Abbott Elementary
Barry
The Bear
Jury Duty
Only Murders in the Building
Ted Lasso
Who will and should win: The Bear
Another massive show that has to win.

BEST LIMITED SERIES, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
All The Light We Cannot See
Beef
Daisy Jones and the Six
Fargo
Fellow Travelers
Lessons in Chemistry
Who will win: Beef
Who should win: That or Daisy Jones
I feel like Beef has the most fanfare behind it, so that's why I'm choosing it here.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
Helen Mirren – 1923
Bella Ramey – The Last Of Us
Keri Russell – The Diplomat
Sarah Snook – Succession
Imelda Staunton – The Crown
Emma Stone – The Curse
Who will win: Emma Stone
Who should win: Sarah or Bella
I could see them awarding Emma here since they're not going to give it to her in Best Actress

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Rachel Brosnahan – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Quinta Brunson – Abbott Elementary
Ayo Edebiri – The Bear
Elle Fanning – The Great
Selena Gomez – Only Murders In The Building
Natasha Lyonne – Poker Face
Who will and should win: Ayo Edebiri
She's the newest star here and she's amazing in The Bear. She'll win.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A LIMITED SERIES, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
Riley Keough – Daisy Jones and the Six
Brie Larson – Lessons in Chemistry
Elizabeth Olsen – Love And Death
Juno Temple – Fargo
Rachel Weisz – Dead Ringers
Ali Wong – Beef
Who will win: Riley Keough
Who should win: Riley, Olsen, Wong, or Temple
This one is tough. Weisz is the most established, so they could go for her. I think Olsen gave the best performance of what I've seen, but I think they won't be able to ignore Riley's singing in Daisy Jones. Her performance was wonderful.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL/COMEDY, OR DRAMA
Elizabeth Debicki – The Crown
Abby Elliot – The Bear
Christina Ricci – Yellowjackets
J. Smith-Cameron – Succession
Meryl Streep – Only Murders in the Building
Hannah Waddingham – Ted Lasso
Who will win: Elizabeth Debicki
Who should win: J. Smith-Cameron
Steep could probably win based on her name alone, but the Princess Diana obsession is still strong, so I could see Elizabeth coming out on top.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES, DRAMA
Brian Cox – Succession
Kieran Culkin – Succession
Gary Oldman – Slow Horses
Pedro Pascal – The Last of Us
Jeremy Strong – Succession
Dominic West – The Crown
Who will and should win: Pedro Pascal
Sadly I think the Succession men will be splitting votes, which leaves the lovable Pedro to swoop in and take it.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL OR COMEDY
Bill Hader – Barry
Steve Martin – Only Murders in the Building
Jason Segel – Shrinking
Martin Short – Only Murders in the Building
Jason Sudeikis – Ted Lasso
Jeremy Allen White – The Bear
Who will and should win: Jeremy Allen White
This is Jeremy Allen White's year.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A LIMITED SERIES, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
Matt Bomer – Fellow Travelers
Sam Claflin – Daisy Jones and the Six
Jon Hamm – Fargo
Woody Harrelson – White House Plumbers
David Oyelowo – Lawmen: Bass Reeves
Steven Yeun – Beef
Who will win: Jon Hamm
Who should win: Steven Yeun
I'm very much team Yeun here, but Hamm is so creepy in Fargo I could see him winning just because he's finally playing something different.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A TELEVISION SERIES, MUSICAL/COMEDY, OR DRAMA
Billy Crudup – The Morning Show
Matthew Macfayden – Succession
James Marsden – Jury Duty
Ebon Moss-Bachrach – The Bear
Alan Ruck – Succession
Alexander Skarsg̴rd РSuccession
Who will and should win: Matthew Macfayden
This is a case where I don't think Succession will split votes. I feel like everyone unanimously loves Macfayden here.

BEST PERFORMANCE IN A STAND-UP COMEDY ON TELEVISION
Ricky Gervais – Ricky Gervais: Armageddon
Trevor Noah – Trevor Noah: Where Was I
Chris Rock – Chris Rock: Selective Outrage
Amy Schumer – Amy Schumer: Emergency Contact
Sarah Silverman – Sarah Silverman: Someone You Love
Wanda Sykes – Wanda Sykes: I’m an Entertainer
Who will win: Chris Rock
Honestly I don't care lol

  1. Oh wow...I thought Napoleon might be here but it must have really tanked. I'm with you what the fuck is that category there for? That would mean extremely stupid movies like those car chase flicks with that moron, Vin Diesel would win. It's just stupid as fuck. Look at me swear

  3. The CINEMATIC & BOX OFFICE ACHIEVEMENT category is just sooooo dumb!!! As for the Best Films category, agree with your pick of Oppenheimer, hope that one wins. And yeah, I really wish American Fiction would win over Barbie but that's unlikely :(
