2024 Screen Actors Guild Nominations

The SAG nominations are here and boy where there some surprises. Here is a full list of the nominations + my thoughts.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A CAST IN A MOTION PICTURE
American Fiction
Barbie
The Color Purple
Killers of the Flower Moon
Oppenheimer
Half of Killers of the Flower Moon's native actors aren't even nominated due to them not getting their own title card, which is silly. I'm surprised Poor Things missed here. That's the biggest shock to me.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Annette Bening – Nyad
Lily Gladstone – Killers of the Flower Moon
Carey Mulligan – Maestro
Margot Robbie – Barbie
Emma Stone – Poor Things
I wish I could replace Annette and Carey with Greta Lee and Aujanue Ellis-Taylor. Not to say they're bad, they definitely are not. But those performances resonated with me more.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Bradley Cooper – Maestro
Colman Domingo – Rustin
Paul Giamatti – The Holdovers
Cillian Murphy – Oppenheimer
Jeffrey Wright – American Fiction
Cooper continuing to get nominations for Maestro is just baffling to me, but whatever at this point. I need to see Rustin. Murphy, Right, and Giamatti are my three favorite lead actors performances so I'm very happy for them.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Emily Blunt – Oppenheimer
Danielle Brooks – The Color Purple
Penelope Cruz – Ferrari
Jodie Foster – Nyad
Da’Vine Joy Randolph – The Holdovers
Penelope Cruz was a big surprise! Still rooting for my girl Da'Vine though.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Sterling K. Brown – American Fiction
Willem Dafoe – Poor Things
Robert De Niro – Killers of the Flower Moon
Robert Downey Jr. – Oppenheimer
Ryan Gosling – Barbie
I love the inclusion of Sterling K. Brown but I miss Ruffalo and Charles Melton here. The perfect category would include them both along with Brown, RDJ and Gosling.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A TELEVISION MOVIE OR LIMITED SERIES
Matt Bomer – Fellow Travelers
Jon Hamm – Fargo
David Oyelowo – Lawmen: Bass Reeves
Tony Shalhoub – Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie
Steven Yeun – Beef
I've only seen Beef and Fargo and both of these nominations are deserved. I wish Luke Kirby could've snuck in for Dr. Death, but I'm sure no one watched that. Rooting for Yeun.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A TELEVISION MOVIE OR LIMITED SERIES
Uzo Aduba – Painkiller
Kathryn Hahn – Tiny Beautiful Things
Brie Larson – Lessons in Chemistry
Bell Powley – A Small Light
Ali Wong – Beef
I weep for Elizabeth Olsen in Love & Death. Juno Temple is great in Fargo and I wish she would've been here too.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY AN ENSEMBLE IN A COMEDY SERIES
Abbott Elementary
Barry
The Bear
Only Murders in the Building
Ted Lasso

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Brett Goldstein – Ted Lasso
Bill Hader – Barry
Ebon Moss-Bachrach – The Bear
Jason Sudeikis – Ted Lasso
Jeremy Allen White – The Bear
I still maintain Hader is getting nominated for his dramatic turns in Barry, not his comedic ones. I'm just happy for The Bear and Ted Lasso, even though I wish Phil Dunster would've gotten some love.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Alex Borstein – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Rachel Brosnahan – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Quinta Brunson – Abbott Elementary
Ayo Edebiri – The Bear
Hannah Waddingham – Ted Lasso
I love the two Mrs. Maisel nominations because while the final season wasn't perfect, they continued to be.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY AN ENSEMBLE IN A DRAMA SERIES
The Crown
The Gilded Age
The Last of Us
The Morning Show
Succession
I do not get the Morning Show love. I truly don't. I'm not sure if Dr. Death would've qualified for Drama Series or Limited series, but I'd put it here over that for sure. This is Succession's to win anyways.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A MALE ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Brian Cox – Succession
Billy Crudup – The Morning Show
Kieran Culkin – Succession
Matthew Macfadyen – Succession
Pedro Pascal – The Last of Us
Jeremy Strong not getting a nomination surprised me. Especially considering how method the dude is.

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE BY A FEMALE ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Jennifer Aniston – The Morning Show
Elizabeth Debicki – The Crown
Bella Ramsey – The Last of Us
Keri Russell – The Diplomat
Sarah Snook – Succession
Go Snook!

  1. I don't have a lot of skin in the game with most of these nominations, but I'm tickled to see that Ebon Moss-Bachrach getting some love for his work on The Bear. He's such an unlikable character for so much of the show until we really get into what motivates him. It's one of the better character redemptive arcs in recent years, and he plays the hell out of the Forks episode.

    1. YES! I agree with that assessment and that Forks episode is the one I re-watched the most. It was so great.

  2. Why Nyad? I heard it was mediocre at best. The same with Rustin? I do feel you on Liz Olsen. In fact, I'm crying for Natalie Portman as she's going through a rough patch in her life as I think she's getting divorced! I'm sad for her! :(

    1. Nyad was fine, but I'm also pretty surprised at the awards love its getting. I still need to see Rustin. Poor Natalie!

  3. Having just seen POOR THINGS, I'm shocked it's snubbed in the overall cast category. Glad Sterling K. Brown made it though, and I'm rooting for Emma Stone, though I'm torn between Cillian Murphy and Jeffrey Wright!
