Review: Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

Staying classy 24/7
Drake is in this movie for 10 seconds, but this wig made me laugh.

Ron Burgandy (Will Ferrell) is living the dream as a co anchor to his wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) in New York City. Then he's fired and Veronica is given a prime time spot on her own. They have a falling out, and soon Ron is offered a job at GNN - Global News Network. They plan on running the news 24/7. He re-assembles his San Diego news team - Brian Fantana, (Paul Rudd) Champ Kind (David Koechner) and Brick Tamland. (Steve Carell) Even though they are handed the graveyard shift, they quickly reinvent the news and become the next big thing.

Honestly, as a long time Anchorman fan, it didn't even matter what the plot of this movie was. I just wanted to see that news team back on my screen. I knew nothing will live up to the original, it's one of my all time favorite comedies. That being said, the film certainly met the expectations I had for it. It definitely had some weak links - like Kristen Wiig's unnecessary character and the terrible child actor that played the son. (Yes, I know the terrible part was intentional, but he kept reminding me of that awful kid in Iron Man 3) There was also a small subplot about Ron going blind for a little while that I could've done without, but the film still had plenty of laughs. (Most of them coming out of Fantana's mouth) They had plenty of nods to the original. Baxter saving the day, Fantana's secret closet of manly products, a cameo filled news fight that actually topped the original's.

Anchorman 2 may be another stupid comedy, but I wanted it to happen. I love these characters, and I'm happy to laugh at them over and over again.

  1. I wasn't a big fan of the first one but I'll definitely see the sequel for Baxter. God, I hope no one throws him off the bridge again.

    1. That may have been the only act of puppy abuse I've ever laughed at, and it was mostly because I was so shocked. But don't worry, no one throws him off a bridge.

  2. I knew it wasn't going to be good as the first one where I felt there were some jokes that didn't work. Still, I had a good time and I loved the all-out Anchorman war.

  3. I like Will Farrell, a lot of people don't, but I do. If the movie is as good as the memorable quote you posted.... I'm gonna really enjoy this!

    1. I'm a huge Will Farrell fan. He's one of the best comedic actors out there in my opinion. Sure he kind of plays the same character over and over, but he still makes me laugh.

  4. Good review Brittani. Wasn't as good, nor nearly as hilarious as the first, but still a fun time nonetheless. That war scene also had me rolling in my seat.
