Review: Thor: Love and Thunder

After heading off with the Guardians post Endgame, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) encounters Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) who is hellbent on killing all the Gods in the galaxy. While he heads back to New Asgard to assist King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) he finds his former girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is wielding Mjolnir as the new Might Thor. 

After being thoroughly disappointed with Multiverse of Madness I was really looking forward to Love and Thunder. Ragnarok is easily in my top 5 MCU and I knew Taika Waititi would have some laughs in store for me.

And he did, I laughed quite a bit in this movie. It was fun enough to distract from the fact that the script was incredibly weak. I'm actually surprised how messy it was. What he does with Asgard is eyebrow raising to say the least. It's become a tourist destination, which is funny in itself, but then they have a Thanos themed ice cream shop which is borderline offensive considering he wiped out half their people including the beloved Heimdall. That was a big issue with this movie, they lean so hard into the humor that it always goes a smidge too far and doesn't land. (Except a reoccurring joke with a pair of goats, I laughed every single time that cameup)

Hemsworth and Portman still don't have chemistry together but as separate characters, I really enjoyed them. I was surprised how emotional I felt with Jane's 3rd act. It's very poignant and it works, but on Thor's side, I can't say I love where they left him. I'm not sure it fits. Art direction-wise, the film is gorgeous and I loved how they switched the gradient when they went into the Shadow world.

Phase Four has certainly been a mixed bag, and I can only hope Black Panther 2 wraps us up nicely at the end of the year. I can't even ask if this is for you or not. If you're a Marvel fan, you're gonna watch it regardless.

    I did enjoy the film a lot though it is flawed in terms of its tone. Still, I thought it was well-made while I would agree with you on the Thanos ice cream store which is kind of fucked up considering what he did. If they had put Tony's hand in the gauntlet, then I would've been OK with that. I did re-watch Multiverse of Madness on Disney+ as it was better the 2nd time around though it still has its flaws. I know I'll see this one again on Disney+ just to get some more details. Notably the tattoos on Thor's back as I noticed that there's a little bit where Thor had the names of those he loved such as Heimdall, his parents, Loki, Tony, and Natasha.

    I know there's going to be people that's going to shit on the fact that the cast members and Taika put their children in the film but I have no problem with it. Considering that it was made during the pandemic and they didn't want to be away from the kids. Why not have them in the film so they can have fun? Plus, I love seeing those kids kick some ass to the music of GNR.

      I'll have to relook at the tats, I only noticed Loki's name. I don't think it's a big deal that their kids were in it either, it was probably fun for them.

    I will watch it but it almost seems like a theme park...hmm...Disney now owns the world so I can see Disney in this. I don't even know who runs Disney.

Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) has quietly been trying to make a difference as The Batman in Gotham. He can't be everywhere. He works closely with Lt Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) and they face a puzzling crime by a masked murderer going by The Riddler. Thursday Movie Picks: Wedding Movies

How fitting that Wandering Through The Shelves has us start the month of June with movies about weddings. June brides are a thing, right? At least that's what people kept telling me when I got married in June. I just picked it because it was warm. To be honest, I don't like many wedding movies, so this was kind of tough, but here's a few I can tolerate. 1) Wedding Crashers This is one of my favorite comedies until the last 20 minutes or so when it falls flat on its face. But it's so hilarious and quotable before all of that, I can forgive it. Lock it up. 2) Rachel Getting Married I used this one for a pick last year but it's easily my favorite movie involving a wedding. The acting is fantastic. I 3) Corpse Bride Truth be told, I wasn't crazy about Corpse Bride, but like I said. Slim pickings in the wedding movie world for me. I'd watch this over a "classic" like My Best Friend's Wedding or Runaway Bride any day.  click th

Random Ramblings: The Radio Flyer Conundrum

Recently, I was talking to someone about who I thought were the best child actors when I was also a child.  Two that really stood out to me were Elijah Wood and Joseph Mazello, and one film those two were in together was called Radio Flyer.  Then I was reminded about the uniqueness of this film. Instead of reviewing the film, I wanted to have an open discussion about the ending. It deals with a tough issue; child abuse. What I’ve noticed is the way that the film ends is interpreted many different ways, and the filmmakers never came forward to say what was right and wrong.
