2023 Golden Globe Winners

The Globes are back and host Jerrod Carmichael didn't give them a pass. Overall, i thought the ceremony was fun. There were some great speeches, NO skits, an amazing Scientology joke that should've gotten way more laughs, and of course...fuckery. The camera people messed up multiple times throughout the show, which I found amusing. Michelle Yeoh threatened to beat up the pianist playing her off (which Carmichael had to clarify was a track and not the piano player they showed earlier because Twitter was mad) There was some presenter banter that went on for way too long, but overall it was a drunken mess and that's what I like about the Globes. I went 15/27 with my picks. Below are the winners + my thoughts.

Best Motion Picture Drama
Avatar: The Way Of The Water
Elvis
The Fabelmans
TÁR
Top Gun: Maverick
I have no idea why I didn't pick this to win. I should've known better.

Best Motion Picture, Comedy

Babylon
The Banshees Of Inisherin
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
Triangle Of Sadness
This was one I was happy to get wrong. I would've been happy with EEAAO winning too but Banshees is my clear favorite of the year, so seeing it get so much love tonight was wonderful.

Best Director — Motion Picture
James Cameron, Avatar: The Way Of The Water
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All At Once
Baz Luhrmann, Elvis
Martin McDonagh, The Banshees Of Inisherin
Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans
Again, why didn't I pick this? I'm a clown. Spielberg did give a great speech about showing the world who he was. I'm sure Harry and Meghan will be plagiarizing it for their book tour soon.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture Drama
Cate Blanchett, TÁR
Olivia Colman, Empire Of Light
Viola Davis, The Woman King
Ana de Armas, Blonde
Michelle Williams, The Fabelmans

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama
Austin Butler, Elvis
Brendan Fraser, The Whale
Hugh Jackman, The Son
Bill Nighy, Living
Jeremy Pope, The Inspection
Is Austin Butler really going to do the Elvis voice for the rest of his life? I'm BEGGING this dude to drop it. You didn't talk like that before!

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Lesley Manville, Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris
Margot Robbie, Babylon
Anya Taylor-Joy, The Menu
Emma Thompson, Good Luck To You, Leo Grande
Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All At Once
Her speech was great, and yes, she's going to beat up those people trying to play her off.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Diego Calva, Babylon
Daniel Craig, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
Adam Driver, White Noise
Colin Farrell, The Banshees Of Inisherin
Ralph Fiennes, The Menu
Can Colin Farrell get any hotter? I really hope he takes this win all the way to the Oscars. I prefer him over Butler.

Best Supporting Actress, Motion Picture
Angela Bassett, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Kerry Condon, The Banshees Of Inisherin
Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All At Once
Dolly De Leon, Triangle Of Sadness
Carey Mulligan, She Said
I screamed when she won. I love this so much.

Best Supporting Actor, Motion Picture
Brendan Gleeson, The Banshees Of Inisherin
Barry Keoghan, The Banshees Of Inisherin
Brad Pitt, Babylon
Ke Huy Quan, Everything Everywhere All At Once
Eddie Redmayne, The Good Nurse
Another lovely speech.

Best Motion Picture – Animated
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
Inu-Oh
Marcel The Shell With Shoes On
Puss In Boots: The Last Wish
Turning Red

Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language
All Quiet On The Western Front (Germany)
Argentina, 1985 (Argentina)
Close (Belgium)
Decision To Leave (South Korea)
RRR (India)
This was kind of an upset, right? I really thought only RRR and All Quiet were serious contenders. I see this movie is on Amazon Prime so I'll be watching it now. I assumed it wasn't streaming anywhere.

Best Screenplay – Motion Picture
Todd Field, TÁR
Tony Kushner & Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans
Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All At Once
Martin McDonagh, The Banshees Of Inisherin
Sarah Polley, Women Talking
This was a surprise to me anyways. I thought the Daniels would be taking it. I'm happy.

Best Original Score – Motion Picture
Alexandre Desplat, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio
Hildur Guðnadóttir, Women Talking
Justin Hurwitz, Babylon
John Williams, The Fabelmans
Carter Burwell, The Banshees Of Inisherin
I forgot how much the Globes love Hurwitz but I'm really happy he won here. Babylon's score was larger than life. It might as well have been another character.

Best Original Song, Motion Picture

“Carolina,” Taylor Swift (Where The Crawdads Sing)
“Ciao Papa,” Guillermo del Toro & Roeban Katz (Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio)
“Hold My Hand,” Lady Gaga and Bloodpop (Top Gun: Maverick)
“Lift Me Up,” Tems, Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna and Ryan Coogler (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever)
“Naatu Naatu,” Kala Bhairava, M. M. Keeravani, Rahul Sipligunj (RRR)
This song is one of the best parts of RRR (which I liked, but didn't love) so I'm happy for their win, even though I was going for Lift Me Up personally.

Best Television Series – Drama
Better Call Saul
House of the Dragon
The Crown
Ozark
Severance
It's so weird that Miguel Sapnochik accepted this award for them when he left his job as showrunner because they wouldn't make his wife a producer.

Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy
Abbott Elementary
The Bear
Hacks
Only Murders in the Building
Wednesday

Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television
Black Bird
Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

Kaley Cuoco, The Flight Attendant
Jean Smart, Hacks
Selena Gomez, Only Murders In The Building
Jenna Ortega, Wednesday

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy

Bill Hader, Barry
Steve Martin, Only Murders in the Building
Martin Short, Only Murders in the Building
Jeremy Allen White, The Bear
YES CHEF!

Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television
Jessica Chastain, George and Tammy
Julia Garner, Inventing Anna
Lily James, Pam And Tommy
Julia Roberts, Gaslit
Amanda Seyfried, The Dropout
She wasn't there to accept this because she is "deep in he process of creating a new musical" and that is so specific I NEED to know more.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical-Comedy or Drama Television Series
Elizabeth Debicki, The Crown
Hannah Einbinder, Hacks
Julia Garner, Ozark
Janelle James, Abbott Elementary
Sheryl Lee Ralph, Abbott Elementary
This was a surprise. I expected Abbott to win again here, but perhaps they split votes? still, Julia has never won a Globe even though she has 3 Emmys under her belt for this performance so its nice she got to collect them all.

Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Musical-Comedy or Drama Television Series
John Lithgow, The Old Man

John Turturro, Severance
Tyler James Williams, Abbott Elementary
Henry Winkler, Barry

Paul Walter Hauser, Black Bird
Richard Jenkins, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story
Seth Rogen, Pam And Tommy
Did anyone predict this? I haven't seen Black Bird since I haven't gotten Apple TV back but this came out of nowhere. I thought he'd thank Taron Edgerton when he started to say "my brother and mentor" but then he thanked Jesus. lol

  1. I didn't realize the awards was yesterday though some of the women on that show put on some amazing dresses. Jenna Ortega gets the win for me. I did see what Jerrod Carmichael said and... oh boy... Xenu and Tom Cruise are probably pissed off. Oh... I'm so scared.

I did see Ke Huy Quan and Angela Bassett's speeches as Quan's speech moved me as did Bassett as I was happy she won. I found out about this yesterday that when Quan accepted the role for Everything Everywhere All at Once. He had his co-star from The Goonies in Jeff Cohen aka Chunk do some of the negotiating for his salary. GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!!!!

I also have to give props to Brendan Fraser for not showing up but also being one of Quan's friends as I forgot that Quan was in Encino Man and Fraser treated him like a friend. We need more good people like that.

    1. I loved that Tom Cruise joke personally. I hope Shelly can escape one day. I'm glad Fraser stuck to his guns too. I look forward to seeing him at other award shows.

  2. I missed the first hour so I missed my crush, Michelle Yeoh. We were bringing food to my friends mom and making sure she was ok. I love Jennifer Coolidge who also seemed a bit tipsy. I loved her one time episode as a German physiotherapist for Martin Crane in Frazier. I haven’t seen anything, sadly but I hope to. I have no clue who the host was but I didn’t find him funny at all. I have to ask, he made some comment about a man, I’m assuming is some executive, but it created some boos from the audience so was wondering.
