2022 Screen Actors Guild Winners

I went 8/15 with my SAG picks last night, but I was happy to be wrong with so many. Last night had a lot of surprises. CODA reigned supreme winning best Cast. Squid Game made history in the TV acting nominations, and Succession still got some love. We have a legit race going on for Best Actress, and best of all, no comedy bits! The Academy should take note with how easily the SAGs move along. No extras, just winners giving speeches. I was too tired to finish this last night, so here we are this morning. Below are the SAG winners + my thoughts.

Cast in a Motion Picture
“Belfast”
“CODA”
“Don’t Look Up”
“House of Gucci”
“King Richard”
I am SO happy I was wrong here! This was such a lovely film and it's nice to have the deaf community represented with this honor.

Male Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture
Javier Bardem, “Being the Ricardos”
Benedict Cumberbatch, “The Power of the Dog”
Andrew Garfield, “Tick Tick Boom”
Will Smith, “King Richard”
Denzel Washington, “The Tragedy of Macbeth”
Smith was outstanding in King Richard but Cumberbatch should be winning everything for The Power of the Dog. Smith's speech was beautiful though, so I'm happy for him. *grits teeth* It's fine.

Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture
Jessica Chastain, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”
Olivia Colman, “The Lost Daughter”
Lady Gaga, “House of Gucci”
Jennifer Hudson, “Respect”
Nicole Kidman, “Being the Ricardos”
Wow! I LOVE that she won. She was so freaking good in this movie. Now there's an actual race! She looked completely stunned when her name was called as well.

Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Ben Affleck, “The Tender Bar”
Bradley Cooper, “Licorice Pizza”
Troy Kotsur, “CODA”
Jared Leto, “House of Gucci”
Kodi Smit-McPhee, “The Power of the Dog”
I got this one wrong, but I can't say I'm mad. Troy was fantastic in CODA and I'm so happy to see him win here.

Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Caitriona Balfe, “Belfast”
Cate Blanchett, “Nightmare Alley”
Ariana DeBose, “West Side Story”
Kirsten Dunst, “The Power of the Dog”
Ruth Negga, “Passing”
Ariana is the biggest lock of the year so this was not a surprise. I can put my Kiki bias aside and be happy for her because she was fantastic.

Ensemble in a Drama Series
“The Handmaid’s Tale”
“The Morning Show”
“Squid Game”
“Succession”
“Yellowstone”
With Squid Game winning both acting awards I thought they were going to upset here, but Succession got some love. Brian Cox swore twice before the speech began, which was very on brand. He ended up giving a beautiful speech about the artists of Ukraine, and the artists in Russian who can't say anything because of threats of treason. It was very well done.

Male Actor in a Drama Series
Brian Cox, “Succession”
Billy Crudup, “The Morning Show”
Kieran Culkin, “Succession”
Lee Jung-jae, “Squid Game”
Jeremy Strong, “Succession”
What a cool win! I had guessed Strong, but Lee is now the first actor to win for a Non-English series in this category!

Female Actor in a Drama Series
Jennifer Aniston, “The Morning Show”
Jung Ho-yeon, “Squid Game”
Elisabeth Moss, “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Sarah Snook, “Succession”
Reese Witherspoon, “The Morning Show”
I'm happy to be wrong here! Jung was fantastic in Squid Game, and now she's the first actor in this category to win for a Non-English role as well.

Ensemble in a Comedy Series
“The Great”
“Hacks”
“The Kominski Method”
“Only Murders in the Building”
“Ted Lasso”
So happy for them! This is my favorite show on TV right now and the cast is always delightful to watch.

Male Actor in a Comedy Series
Michael Douglas, “The Kominski Method”
Brett Goldstein, “Ted Lasso”
Steve Martin, “Only Murders in the Building”
Martin Short, “Only Murders in the Building”
Jason Sudeikis, “Ted Lasso”
Yes! Jason wasn't there to accept live, but accepted over Zoom with the rest of the Ted Lasso cast. I never get sick of him winning.

Female Actor in a Comedy Series
Elle Fanning, “The Great
Sandra Oh, “The Chair”
Jean Smart, “Hacks”
Juno Temple, “Ted Lasso”
Hannah Waddingham, “Ted Lasso”
I really need to finish watching this. I enjoyed the pilot.

Male Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series
Murray Bartlett, “The White Lotus”
Oscar Isaac, “Scenes from a Marriage”
Michael Keaton, “Dopesick”
Ewan McGregor, “Halston”
Evan Peters, “Mare of Easttown”
Keaton was in the bathroom when his name was called and had to book it to the stage. He also started crying when talking about his nephew. It started so funny and ended so sad.

Female Actor in a Television Movie or Limited Series
Jennifer Coolidge, “The White Lotus”
Cynthia Erivo, “Genius: Aretha”
Margaret Qualley, “Maid”
Jean Smart, “Mare of Easttown”
Kate Winslet, “Mare of Easttown”
Kate appeared on Zoom earlier in the show, but didn't accept this award on Zoom. Benedict Cumberbatch and Jesse Plemmons accepted it for her.

Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture
“Black Widow”
“Dune”
“The Matrix Resurrections”
“No Time to Die”
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings”
Who will win: Dune
Who should win: Shang-Chi

Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series
“Cobra Kai”
“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”
“Loki”
“Mare of Easttown”
“Squid Game”
Who will win: Squid Game
Who should win: Squid Game or Falcon

  1. Happy for CODA as I need to see that film more than ever as I hope to do so in the coming weeks before the Oscars. Happy for Jessica Chastain and I loved that Michael Keaton bit though... we know why he almost missed his acceptance speech. Brian Cox fucking rules and I know he could take Putin and his bitch Steven Seagal.
